Do you have any books that you would recommend for reading around Halloween?

Ooh, great question! My absolute favourite YA horror novels are The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda and The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan.  If you're a fan of the classics, I also really recommend The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

If you like ghost stories and you're looking for something more spooky than scary, I recommend The Diviners by Libba Bray, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson, and The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.   And lastly, a few of my favourite young adult novels with gorgeously gothic prose: Teeth by Hannah Moskowitz, Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge, and The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd.

can you recommend some creepy or dark books to read around halloween?

The first book that comes to mind is Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. You can find it on Goodreads here.

Another series appeals more to the adult/horror genre, but it's kept me up more than one night so I figure it's a viable suggestion. The Experiments in Terror series by Karina Halle is available only through Kindle (and maybe Nook?) and I believe that the first one is free.

Oooh, we’ll I’m always always a huge fan of Poe, he’s perfect for Halloween. I’d also say the absolute creepiest book I’ve ever read is called Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith. It seriously got under my skin. If Maggie sees this maybe she can recommend something too!

I agree with the Poe recommendation although the creepiest book I've ever read is Coraline by Neil Gaiman. A dark (although not traditionally creepy) series is the Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix; the first is called Among the Hidden.  I'm also a big fan of Frankenstein.

I think Harry Potter is good fall rereading as well.
