For my birthday, if you're still up for it: I was hoping for a post canon Linzin- first kiss after the break up🥺
Or write whatever else if you don't like this ^ I'm not picky.
This is very very sweet of you, so thank you🥰
So this one gave me multiple ideas so here’s the first one. Hope you enjoy!
“That definitely wasn’t what I was expecting,” Lin smiles after their picnic.
“Well, I wanted something different for the first official date,” Tenzin smiles back nervously, “I know you might still be on the fence about everything so I thought being away from prying eyes would be your preference.”
“Official is right, kind of feels like we’ve been doing this for the last month or so without calling it what it was,” Lin points out.
“Maybe we were,” Tenzin shrugs.
“This was good,” Lin feels for her key.
“Right so here we are,” Tenzin gestures to her door but the two just stare at each other, neither willing to make a move.
“What are we doing Tenzin?” Lin wonders why they are still just staring at each other but Tenzin interprets it differently.
“ I love you and want to be with you Lin. That hasn’t changed since I said it a few months ago,” Tenzin squeezes her hand.
“Tenzin, I…” Lin trails off. She knew what she felt but had trouble saying it out loud.
“I don’t want you to feel like I’m rushing you. I want this but I want this at your pace, whatever you see fit. We have all the time in the world to decide how far this goes, if that’s something you decide you want,” Tenzin lets go of her hand, “have a good night Lin.”
“Night Tenzin,” Lin gives him a small smile. He steps towards her and Lin thinks he’s going to kiss her but instead he pulls her in for a hug.
“I’ll see you at the meeting,” Tenzin releases her.
“Right,” Lin nods hiding her disappointment before entering her home.
…
“Chief, you've got an admirer!” one of the captains chuckles as Lin walks past his office the next morning.
“Shun?” Lin turns to her assistant.
“Well, I think you should see for yourself,” Shun points to Lin’s office.
“Fine,” Lin walks into her office where the first thing that catches her eye is a bouquet of various lilies.
“Someone’s laying it on thick,” Mako peeps into Lin’s office.
“Can I help you with something or do I need to find something for you to do?” Lin glares at the firebender.
“Is that a panda lily?” Mako points to the flower in the centre, “he’s got it bad Chief.”
“Whatever Mako,” Lin rolls her eyes before finding work for him, “I need that box of files sent to the archive. Please get them done there.”
“Well I actu-,” Mako tries.
“You had time to check in on my love life, you have time to do that,” Lin points out.
“Yes chief,” Mako sighs as he lifts the box.
“Thanks,” Lin closes her door behind him so she can inspect her flowers in peace. When she sits at her desk she notices a note attached to the bouquet.
My lily, I had a great night. Thanks for coming. -Tez
Something about him calling her lily again made her heart skip a beat. She told him she wanted a fresh start of whatever this was but old habits die hard. Old nicknames could get a pass. Actually, it reminds her of a time when she didn’t wait around for what she wanted.
“What am I waiting for?” Lin asks herself. She had to make up her mind about letting him in again before she even agreed to a date. She knew she loved him, she knew she wanted to try again and she knew she actually wanted the kiss she expected after their date. At fifty eight she wasn’t going to wait around awkwardly, no those days were long gone, she was going to do something about it. And so, Lin finds herself at Tenzin’s city office trying to get past his assistant.
“Master Tenzin asked not to be disturbed, he has a lot of work to do,” his assistant informs her
“Typical airhead is probably obsessing over the next presentation,” Lin grumbles to herself before deciding to continue into his office despite Tenzin’s assistant’s objections as she follows Lin.
“It’s fine Yuri,” Tenzin nods to his assistant who promptly leaves and closes the door behind her, “hey I was just-.”
“Nope,” Lin grabs a fistful of his robes and pulls him towards her for a kiss.
“Wow,” Tenzin gapes at her when they break the kiss.
“I love you too and I want to be with you,” Lin confesses.
“Lin…,” Tenzin looks around awkwardly.
“Shit, you changed your mind about this,” Lin takes a step back.
“I didn’t change my mind,” Tenzin insists before pointing to a corner in his office, “we just have an audience.”
“Uh, hi Aunt Lin,” Jinora waves awkwardly from the couch where she and Rohan are looking over some scrolls.
“Jinora, Rohan,” Lin struggles to maintain her composure after her new boyfriend’s? Partner’s? Lover’s? children witnessed their first kiss in almost two decades and her subsequent declaration of love.
“Can’t say I’m surprised,” the eighteen year old Jinora smirks at the two.
“Jinora,” Tenzin groans.
“Your feelings were pretty obvious the last time Aunt Lin came to the island,” she points out, “Meelo and Ikki were trying to figure out how long this would take.”
“Obvious or not, we would appreciate it if you kept this quiet. This is very new,” Tenzin requests.
“Secret, got it,” Jinora nods before turning to her brother.
“Right secret,” Rohan agrees.
“We’ll give you two some space. Ikki and Meelo should be here for our lunch soon,” Jinora rolls up the scroll and helps Rohan quickly pack his bag.
“Bring aunty to dinner,” Rohan tosses over his shoulder.
“Our whole families will know by the end of the day,” Lin figures as she locks the door behind his children.
“Rohan has gotten better at keeping secrets,” Tenzin insists as he rests his hands on her hips.
“Right,” Lin rolls her eyes.
“They did what?!” the couple hears Meelo screech from outside. They look at each other and all they can do is chuckle.
“Now that we have the first kiss over with,” Tenzin strokes her cheek before leaning to meet her lips for a deeper kiss which Lin happily indulges.
Hello fellow Linko lover! Might be a teeeeeeny bit NSFW btw. Thank you for this prompt, 9 days to 24🌼
"You. Just. Taste. So. Damn. Good." He spoke between kisses as he held her against the wall of one of the many rooms at Air Temple Island. Surely, this was going to be one of their riskier conclaves, even more so than her office. But she had no right looking as beautiful as she did and Mako was given no weapons to use against his attraction for her.
"Mako-" Lin gasped as he bit down on her lower lip, "Someone's going to catch us if you don't lower your voice!" She whisper-scolded him.
"It's not my fault that all it takes is for you to just exist for me to lose all my senses." Mako whispered against her cheek as he ran his hand over her waist.
She rolled her eyes to hide the blush forming on her cheeks and pulled him into a long kiss.
"Fine. We need to be quick, okay? I don't want Bolin to come looking-"
"Don't talk about my brother!" He groaned.
Lin chuckled until he silenced her with his mouth.
The two of them managed to very surreptitiously integrate themselves back into the crowded hall where the party was held. As the two people with the least amount of words to dispense, it was easy and rather convenient to vanish without raising any questions.
However, with a party, this boring, some notes about a few missing guests were made.
It started with Suyin, "Where were you?"
"Restroom." Lin shoved some food in her mouth to buy her time to lie undetected should she need it.
"For what? Most women use the restroom to put on lipstick, not rub it off?" She lightly scolded as she reached out to adjust her sister's hair.
"What? What are you insinuating?" Lin dodged her hand and tried fixing her hair herself.
"I know that look, Lin." She smirked at her sister's coloring cheeks, "Is it someone from this party?" She looked around at the overcrowded room, "Or someone you invited from the outside?"
Lin shook her head, not giving her anything.
"Come on! Tell me something. Is it Tenzin? I saw him leave the room too!"
"Su, I can assure you that in no world is there anything going on between me and Tenzin." Lin sipped her drink to wash down her food.
"So then?" She looked at the Chief expectantly.
Lin shrugged nonchalantly and winked at the mother of five.
"Fine! Keep your secrets." Suyin huffed.
On the other side of the room, however, Bolin had managed to gather the Krew around him for some discussion.
"Apparently Chief Beifong is dating someone." He informed as he shoved some food down his throat.
Mako choked on his own spit before quickly swallowing it.
"Su thinks it's Tenzin but Opal told me that she saw Tenzin and Pema get into an argument outside. So the person who mussed the Chief Beifong's hair is still at large." Bolin continued.
Korra took a minute to think and perked up, "Mako! Do you happen to know anything about this?"
Mako thought she wagged her eyebrows suggestively at him but he couldn't tell. After the previous effect Lin had on him, coupled with the guilt of possessing information in this conversation, he couldn't be sure.
"Wha- what? Why would I know anything?" Mako managed to sputter out.
"Because you work closely with her.." Asami gave him a look of confoundment.
"Mako knows something!" Korra gasped.
"No! I don't-"
"He left the room too! He saw something!" Bolin pointed out.
"Come on! Tell us who it is. Who is bold enough to tame Lin Beifong?" Korra pleaded.
"Really." Mako placed his drink down in finality, "If I knew I'd tell you. I don't know anything about the Chief's dating life."
"Opal told me not to tell anyone, but Su managed to prod this out of Lin," He cleared his throat and looked around to ensure no one was listening in, "Apparently," He whispered, "They've been seeing each other for a few months and he might just be the best sex she's ever had. Who do you think this could be?"
Mako blushed, but quickly recovered and plastered his confused expression back on his face, "I have no idea. Why are you so interested though?"
"Umm-" Bolin blushed, "Suyin really wants to know and I want her to like me- because of Opal- and..." He trailed off, giving Mako an embarrassed look.
"I think I have a way." Mako considered with a slow smile.
"A little gossip isn't going to harm her and we just want to know- we're not going to do anything bad with the information." Korra smiled.
"Yeah. We'll respect her privacy once we know what's private. Mako, maybe you could ask her? She trusts you and you're friends- of sorts- plus now even I'm invested." Asami giggled.
He found Lin's eyes somewhere across the room and winked at her. Lin nodded in acknowledgment. All it took was this trivial an interaction about an hour ago to find themselves in the intimacy of that room.
Mako gathered his friends closer and whispered, "This is boring so I'm going to bring up work and ask her for a private discussion. I want all of you to cover me. Don't let anyone leave, guard the doors and create a distraction in case anyone tries seeking the Chief out." Mako glanced at Lin and then back at his friends, "I want total privacy, and hopefully I'll be able to pry out the name of this best sex person." His friends were totally off in interpreting the grin on Mako's face and that befitted his plan perfectly.
"Go Mako!" Korra cheered, "Get us a name."
"Oh, she'll be screaming it." Mako spoke under his breath with a mischievous smile as he walked away.
Lin had been keeping a secret and it was time she finally came clean to him. But Mako just figured out the key to keeping a good secret. Hide it right under everyone's noses. Sure, the best sex was a good secret- since Bolin had let it slip he realized that Lin hid it right in front of him. She wanted him just as badly. He just needed confirmation from her and that's what he was going to do. Enough of her secrets. If she wasn't going to tell it, she sure was going to moan it.
Besides, with his friends ensuring their privacy- he had no reason to hurry or be silent.
Mako exchanged a glance with Lin once outside and walked together down the long corridor.
He felt bad about manipulating his friends, but perhaps they'd find out in due course of time and have the same realization as him. Because after all, the best-kept secrets were the ones that were right in front of you all along.
Umm can someone tell me how am I writing Liniroh fics all of a sudden?? And why is this so much fun? What is happening?
Err? 12 days to go I guess??👀💚
"Linny, will you marry me?" Amber eyes twinkled with hope at the most beautiful woman they'd ever seen.
"Of course I'll marry you, Iroh!" Lin picks up the little boy in front of her and kisses his cheek as she places him in her lap.
"Make Tenzin go away then!" He whines, placing his tiny arms around her to nuzzle his face in her neck.
"Yes, we'll tell Tenzin to go away." She chuckled at the offended man in question who stood before her. His face was red and he had had just about enough from the seven-year-old prince. Iroh was turning out to be a royal pain in Tenzin's butt and Lin was only amused by the way a little boy could vex her fully grown man.
Presently, when the newly-promoted young General Iroh received mail from Air Temple Island while at sea, he knew exactly what to expect. From the design of the envelope itself, he could tell what its contents were. The son of the late Avatar, Tenzin was getting married- about time they tied the knot. What shocked the General, however, was the name of the bride.
"What is the meaning of this?" He stormed inside his Commanding Officer's room angrily waving the letter in hand.
"I believe that's the invitation to my brother's wedding and it means, he would like to have you there in attendance?" Commander Bumi answered, confused.
"Who in the world is Pema?" His throat screeched as he slammed the letter on his desk with a loud thud.
"His betrothed?" Bumi raises a confused eyebrow at the young man.
"Why is he marrying a woman I have never even heard of after spending the majority of his life with Chief Beifong?" He fumed.
"You do actually know Pema, Iroh! You used to play with her on the Island? Dark hair? Green eyes?" Bumi quipped, he was evading the main part of the question Iroh needed to be answered.
"Really? Dark hair and green eyes? Do you know who else fits that description?" He said sarcastically.
Then punched the wall when the realization hit him, "That Pema?" He looked disgusted, "She- she's as old as me!" He whispered, "Bumi- what are you not telling me? Why isn't he marrying Lin? Why hasn't Lin mentioned any of this in her letters?"
Bumi sighed, "Sit here," He gestured at the chair as he took a seat on his bed, "To quote Tenzin, they were drifting apart and they had different goals in life. But, look the truth is- Lin isn't sure she wants to have kids and they're already nearing their late thirties. Tenzin needs to have airbenders to carry dad's legacy on. You know they loved each other immensely, but then Pema along. And then well, he left Lin when Pema confessed her feelings and claimed he was her soulmate-"
"SOULMATE? Lin is his soulmate if anything. You grew up with them, Bumi! You've seen what they're like together-" Iroh was riled up.
"Iroh! I know. You're right." The older man placed a hand on the General's shoulder, "I don't know what to tell you and I don't know what to tell Tenzin. He broke her heart but Tenzin's my brother, my hands are tied. I've been giving him the cold shoulder since he told me about what he did but I can't boycott my own brother's wedding. That will break my mother's heart." Bumi exhaled.
"And what about Lin's heart?" Iroh had calmed down, aching to know how she was coping. Bumi knew how Iroh had always been in love with Lin, his anger was well placed. She had been his favorite person growing up and the thought of her being hurt was something Iroh wouldn't tolerate.
"She didn't take it too well. My heart really goes out to her and as disgusted as I am by Tenzin, there isn't anything I can do but be supportive." Bumi placed a hand on the young man's shoulder and sighed, "I, of all people can't be the one to give Tenzin the talk about legacies."
Iroh understood and left the room. He looked down at the letter and made a decision. Once he reached his room and lay on his bed, he smiled for the first time since he received his mail that day.
It was one of the very first missions he had ever accomplished.
Of course, Tenzin couldn't marry her.
Lin was already married to him.
General Iroh had a wedding to attend in the next few weeks. He had a new mission in place and to put it simply, this wedding was going to be all about Lin.
All he had to do now was strategize his new mission: The Official Proposal for Lin Beifong.
Tenzin's wedding was going to be unforgettable. No one was going to forget the royal proposal that upstaged the wedding of the century. At least Tenzin wasn't going to.
Hello! I’m running out of things to type out here in the intro lol.
Umm, 13 days to go🌼💚
"Hey, beautiful." Tenzin smiles as he peeks into his bedroom where his wife was getting ready.
"Tenzin.”
Lin nods at him through the mirror. He steps inside, happy as can be at the sight before him. She was putting on a pair of dangling earrings, but what had gotten him that dazzled wasn't in fact what she was not wearing. No, Lin wasn’t naked. In fact, she was fully covered from head to toe.
It was a sight to behold. No one had ever seen or even imagined, metallic Lin Beifong in the warm colors of air nomad robes. On the occasion, Bumi was getting his tattoos, and Lin, now as Tenzin’s wife since the past year was coaxed into wearing these traditional robes.
“Stop looking at me like that, I look foolish.” Lin rolled her eyes as Tenzin stood behind her, his hands on her waist as they looked at each other through the mirror.
“You look radiant, as usual,” He kissed her cheek as she frowned, “And I wear these robes too.”
“I never said you don’t look foolish.” Lin side-eyed him with a tiny smirk.
“Well, call me foolish then. An absolute fool for you.” He entwined his fingers in hers to raise her hand and kiss it softly.
“Do you really want me to step outside looking like this in front of everyone?” Lin gave him a worried look in the mirror.
“I’d sure like that,” Tenzin smiled, “But if you’re uncomfortable, I’ll understand.”
“I’ll wear them, then.” She decided, “They’re not as uncomfortable.”
“Hey now, these robes are very soft and extremely comfortable!” Tenzin teased her back, wrapping both his arms around her waist, “It’s light, breezy, and colorful!” He playfully scrunched his eyebrows together.
Lin continued maintaining his gaze in the mirror, “Sure. Although the occasional breeze that passes through can cause quite the startle.” She rolled her eyes.
“Thus well suited for the air nation-"
"And that's the best part about being married to Mr. Air Nation then." Lin gave him half a smile as she cut off what they both knew to be a long lecture on air nation clothing.
"Well, I’d say the best part about these robes is their accessibility.” Tenzin’s hand swiftly found its way beneath the robes, feeling at the warm skin of her belly.
Lin gasped, surprised at how accessible it really was, “Maybe you could show me after the ceremony then.”
“I’m counting on it.” Tenzin smiled and tightly kissed her cheek.
Hi! Just a quick reminder- I know I have my asks on but that's for other prompts/headcanons etc. I'm done accepting birthday prompts- I already have more than I will be able to write. If you've sent yours in after that post, I may probably get around to writing it later.
Also, the asks are not on for sending me hurtful stuff, so umm don't.
@vr-tb here's my return gift to you xD
3 days to go.
"This really isn't working."
"You're right."
"We should call it while we still have our heads on our necks."
"I think we should."
"I never stopped loving you."
"And I doubt I'll ever stop."
Let the record state that Bumi and Kya should never have been eavesdropping on their little brother's private conversation. But it wasn't the first time they were hearing this very conversation run this same course. Bumi sighed sadly while Kya rubbed his back remorsefully.
It hurt the siblings that the two people who have only ever been hopelessly in love with each other could just never make it work.
They couldn't blame them either. It was one thing in their youth, but now with his kids, her job, new airbenders, a city to rebuild, there were so many more variables. It complicates things and as much as Bumi and Kya wished them together, they had to understand where both parties were coming from.
"They've definitely set a record, breaking up so many times." Kya sighed as they entered the living room.
"Maybe we can salvage this?" Bumi said hopefully, "When I was using Varrick's recording device, I managed to capture some of their stolen glances and- and-"
"And what? Show them a recording of how they've been pining for each other in the back lines all along? How we could see all their little moments since Amon whether or not they realized it? Bumi, I was just as hopeful as you that they'd work it out, especially now with Pema out of the picture. But, I guess not. Lin may not want to give him a second chance after everything he has put her through. Tenzin has his family to prioritize. And-"
"Kya, they deserve to be happy together. Here watch this. Just look at them." Bumi stated. He bent down and pushed the large CD into the player.
The mover began with Asami and Mako laughing over something at Bolin and Korra's expense. While that was the focus of the mover Bumi was asked to record, he couldn't help but angle the lens slightly to the back where Lin gave his brother the slightest of smirks, and Tenzin reciprocated by hovering closer to her and squeezing her hand lightly behind his robes.
They sighed at the screen. Ever since the break-up, it was these little crumbs Bumi and Kya had to live on. Tenzin's divorce had given them some hope, they even waited and watched for more signs. They were the only ones who'd made any note of something concocting between the ex-lovers. Having been pros at sneaking around as kids, in their fifties the lovers were experts. Experts that only Bumi and Kya knew how to catch, given their previous exposure to the couple.
"What are you two watching?"
Kya and Bumi jerked up at the sound of their brother's voice. Sneaky airbender. Bumi was still to learn this tactic.
Kya got up and spoke louder in an attempt to distract them from the screen, "Oh- it's just a funny something with Korra and-"
"Then why is it zooming in on me and Tenzin?" Lin retorted.
"Uh-" Kya made a face.
Bumi got up and took over for his sister, "I know we shouldn't have been listening in on your private conversation, but come on! It's you two. We know you've been sneaking around."
Lin and Tenzin exchanged a confused glance as Bumi continued,
"I know it's hard, but you have to make it work. Look at you," He pointed at the screen, "Don't break up again-" His tongue clicked, "Can't you see you're made for each other? You're perfect-"
"Wait- what exactly did you hear?" Tenzin shook his head.
"Enough to know that you're breaking your own break-up record!" Kya pouted at them.
"Umm- we didn't- we were never-" Lin tried explaining.
"Oh come on! It's right there. You two have been sneaking around ever since the divorce." Now Bumi pouted and folded his hands.
"Actually- we- umm-" Lin started and turned to glance at Tenzin, "We just decided that we're going start dating."
Tenzin had placed his hand around her waist and kissed her cheek to punctuate her sentence.
Bumi and Kya's eyes widened in shock as they tried to make some sense of what they just heard.
"But- we just- you were-and you said-" They stumbled over their own words with no synchrony.
Tenzin smiled, for once he got to be at the laughing end of his dumbfounded siblings.
"Well, first let's set the record straight- you two are not the brightest stars in the sky." Lin rolled her eyes playfully.
"Sure- fine- Tell us what you meant-" Were the unanimous answers.
"It's because of things like that," Tenzin pointed at the screen where he was now whispering in Lin's ear, "Trying to be just friends wasn't working. We didn't want to just fall back into old habits and make rash decisions, so we're going to try dating before we- err- move too fast." He scratched the back of his neck nervously.
Kya shook her head, "So, what we heard was the two of you getting together?"
"Yes." Lin smiled.
"AND I WAS THERE WHEN THAT HAPPENED? AND I DIDN'T RECORD IT?" Bumi yelled.
"You won't need your recordings, Bumi. This time it's going to stick." Tenzin smiled, pulling Lin's head into his chest.
"He's right." Lin smiled.
Republic City's favorite couple had once again, broken and set the record, not just for the most break-ups, but also for the most make-ups.
Did I blast Taylor Swift’s- You Belong With Me while planning this one out? Sure, obviously. Here’s some more Linzin. 17 days to 24!🦋
"Tenzin I don't want to see you ever again. Get out of my doorway and go back to your Island. We're through." She slammed the door shut and walked to her bedroom with hot tears ready to pour down her cheeks.
"Some of your belongings are still at the Island. I've put them all in a box- if you could just come and collect them."
The muffled sound through the door was enough for her tears to finally flow down her face. She bent the stone beneath her to where he stood outside her door and pushed it upwards to trip him up into leaving.
"Ow!"
That sound brought an infinitesimally tiny smile to her face. She was through with him.
Until the cursed Avatar showed up and ruined everything. She was happy doing her job, avoiding Tenzin and his family, keeping the city safe and then the Avatar just had to meddle and get them back on speaking terms.
Oh well, no harm no foul. Just time to accept the past and move on and that's what Lin did. That's all she really wanted to do. But Tenzin wanted more. He wanted a friendship, a talk-about-your-day-outside-of-work kind of friendship. And it wasn't just because she sacrificed her life for him and his family. No. But because they actually had always been great friends, they had an awful lot in common and as much as Lin would hate to admit it, Tenzin was good company to have. So she established her boundaries and allowed for that kind of friendship to flourish.
"You know, you really should collect your box of belongings from the Island sometime. It's been sitting there for ages." Tenzin joked one evening as the two dined in Lin's office over some paperwork.
"I think you should burn it." Lin yawned.
"But it has all your things." He reasoned.
"I have everything I need, Tenzin." She rolled her eyes playfully.
But then there was an evil Avatar, a war between the water tribes, new airbenders and then the last straw- The Red Lotus: The terrorist group they fought together, side by side to save young Korra. And that brought back so many memories. The nostalgia, the pain, the love, the hurt then the break up. All this, over what? Airbenders that showed up anyway. Lin tried drawing her distance and re-establishing boundaries but it was futile. Both of them were masters in the powers of their respectful bendings and careers, and yet they were powerless against whatever that force was that pushing them towards each other.
However once the Avatar left, it was easier to maintain their distance once again. They went back to the kind of relationship Lin wanted to begin with- the talk-about-important-things-and-nothing-more kind.
But then there was a spirit vine powered robot controlled by a dictator ready to blow them all up. The stakes weren't any higher, but Lin and Tenzin found their previous comfort in each other and helped the Avatar defeat this villain too.
It was the night of Varrick's wedding when Lin was looking over the shore at the twinkling lights of Republic City.
"Since you're here on leisure, Lin, why don't you pick up that box finally." He sneaked up behind her.
"Oh just toss it in the water already, Tenzin. They haven't been my belongings for a long time now."
Tenzin laughed and stood by her in silence. He observed her watch the serene water and determined that he had a decision to make.
They resumed to his favorite, talk-about-your-day-outside-of-work kind of friendship. Lin helped him out with a few things he was struggling with in his personal life and he helped her with maintaining a healthy relationship with her newly reconciled family. Overall, things were going well for a while.
Until one day Lin answered the knock at her apartment, to see an airbender at her door carrying a cardboard box on his side.
"My belongings?" Lin raised an eyebrow.
"Yes." Tenzin nodded with a smile.
"Thank you." Lin answered, taking the box from his hand and shutting the door. She didn't care to invite him in.
But then there was a second knock on her door.
"Yes, Tenzin?" She opened the door with a disinterested look on her face.
"You forgot something." Tenzin smiled.
"Don't tell me there's another box." She rolled her eyes.
"No, just an airbender."
He gave her a soft smile. Of course, she knew he was recently divorced- she helped him cope through it but there was a large part of her that didn't think she had anything to do with the divorce. Wasn't she wrong, Lin rolled her eyes, being caught blindsided by the same man again.
"I belong with you, Lin." He placed his hands on her elbows and looked into her jade eyes.
"Go sit in that box, then." She glanced over in to where it was placed on the floor of her living room, "I'll get the tea ready."
This prompt honestly puts such cute imagery in my head!
4 days to 24!🌼🧚🏻♀️
To a mere observer, the scene in front was that of a lover's paradise during a picturesque date. The open ground, the verdant grass dancing in the wind, the water hitting the Island in musical harmony while the sun shone down to almost spotlight the pair. If all the elements seemed to manifest their virtues to create an exuberant sight, the spirits had to grace this scene too.
However, by no stretch of the word was this a date. The man had adorned the Chief of Police with what he liked to call 'Bumi Time' as a thank you for saving his life. Said Chief had been working on being 'nicer' much less than she wanted the man to stop barraging her to redeem the offer. So, there she sat in silence with him while he entertained his junior spirit and friends.
The winds grew stronger, and with it brought fallen flowers and petals right into his lap. Bumi, as a strong advocate of, 'when life gives you lemons.' started crafting little flower crowns for the dragonfly bunnies that hopped about. Lin had to admit, the retired Commander was indeed full of surprises.
"Is that a little smile I see on your face or have I inhaled too much pollen?" Bumi snapped her out of her thoughts.
"I'd vote for too much pollen," Lin rolled her eyes, "Who taught you how to make those?"
"Dad actually taught Kya- it was their thing when she was little. But as he grew older, he decided to teach me too." Bumi explained, hands welding a purple flower on a string.
"Didn't he used to make these crowns for Katara too?" Lin smiled at the memory when she was sure he wasn't looking.
Bumi placed the finished crown on one of Bumju's pink spirit friends and turned to face Lin, "He did. He told me that the way to a woman's heart wasn't through one's masculine competency. It was the more..." Bumi patted his own blue bunny spirit as he sat upon his shoulder, "tender ones."
"And is the pink spirit over there the lady whose heart you're trying to get to?" Lin smirked, "She seems more Bumju's type and he may not appreciate you making your moves on her."
"This skill does come in handy as wingman too, Lin." Bumi smiled back and moved to sit beside her.
They sat in silence watching the dragonfly bunnies fly around with their flower crowns. Bumi's eyes were following the green dragonfly bunny that was engaged in a game of catch with a yellow one. His eyes stopped as the green spirit flew past Lin on his side, her own jade eyes distracting him. Something about the wind ruffling her hair against her pink cheeks, the way the world must look through her powerful green gaze struck a cord in Bumi's heart.
Lin must've realized his eyes were on her, so she turned to face him and arched an eyebrow in askance.
"Would you like me to make one for you?" He smiled, pointing at his own flowercrown on his head.
"No." Lin lied.
And just then some more flowers and petals flew in his way, crashing against his chest. He grinned and collected them in his hands, "I guess I should make one anyway."
Lin shrugged and continued watching the spirits. She admitted to herself that this was fun- of sorts. Since 'Bumi Time' dictated strictly his time and not the activity, Lin proposed that sat in the grass in silence and the man did deliver. He didn't bother her with his never-ending stories- which now that she thought of it, she could bear to listen to one, even though the bit about the flower crown and his dad did count as a story.
She watched him as he quickly finished fashioning the crown that would be slightly large for the spirit bunnies. He lifted it against the air and gave it a proud smile. Then he turned to face Lin and looked at her through the middle of the crown, framing her face with flowers.
"Are you sure?" He gave her half a smile.
Lin tilted her head in response, not using her words.
Bumi's smile widened as he made his way closer to her and placed the crown on her head.
"There. Now you're even cuter than a spirit bunny." He smiled proudly.
"Cuter?" Lin rolled her eyes playfully. It was the best she could do while stifling the blush on her cheeks.
"You're really cute, Lin. That metal armor and scowl may fool some people, but not me." He winked.
"Thanks, Bumi." Lin looked away.
"Would you like to do this again sometime?" He asked as he surreptitiously placed his arm around her shoulders.
Lin's eyes moved from where his hand squeezed her arm to his beaming face a few inches from hers, "More Bumi Time?"
"We could call it Bumi and Lin time." He offered with a wink.
Inspite of the cute ideas you gave me for this prompt, I had to think of something else to surprise you :P
11 days to go I think💅🏻
"Linnnyyyy!" The wild non-bender swung over the tree above the spot she was seated in.
"Go away, Bumi."
"I just have one very quick question!" Bumi shook his body like an wet polar bear dog and approached the young metalbender, "What do you think of Tenzin?"
Despite knowing exactly why she was being disturbed, Lin had to compose her face from acting out the emotions she felt at the sound of that name.
"I don't think of Tenzin. I have other things to think about. Like why is there a hog-monkey hanging over my head asking me dumb questions?" She rolled her eyes.
"Come on! Tell me one nice thing about him and I'll leave alone." Bumi smirked.
"Fine." Lin pouted, she pretended to think, as if she didn't have a long list tucked deep inside her head already, "He's sweet."
-
"Come on, Tenzin! One nice thing about Lin and I won't tell her about the way you keep staring at her!" Bumi skillfully juggled some fruits waiting for an answer.
"I don't keep staring at her!" How was this angry airbender ever going to be a pacifist?
"Good! I see you're practicing what to say to her then." Bumi laughed.
"Fine." Tenzin grumbled, "She's sweet, okay? Leave me alone now!"
"Sweet? When?" Bumi dropped the fruits as his laughter consumed him.
"When you're not around." Tenzin crossed his arms.
"Mmmm. I have never heard one sweet thing come out of that girl's mouth, so I'm going to assume you've tasted her then, to know that she's sweet when I'm not around. Makes sense, makes- OW!"
Tenzin had tossed a ripe fruit in his direction, his airbending giving him the perfect aim to his chest.
-
"Bumi? What's all this about? Are you crazy?"
Lin and Tenzin were maintaining their usual awkward distance and smiles while talking when the crazy fellow stormed into the room with three large buckets in hand.
Gray and green eyes widened at the alleged crazy fellow.
“Here’s all the sweets on this Island and some from Republic City.” He placed the buckets down and grinned at the two teenagers in front of him.
“I’m not going to name names, but someone told me something about another someone being sweet. So either you do what needs to be done, something that is LONG overdue. Or you take responsibility for stealing all these sweets.”
“What?” Two voices echoes.
“You heard me!” Bumi stepped out and bolted the wooden door locked, “Don’t even try using your bending- mom will only be mad at both of you. Kya, Suyin and Izumi are helping me too. So figure it out already,” Bumi cackled from outside, “Sweethearts!”
