essek thelyss realizes he loves caleb widogast the day he walks away from him in a coast city. essek then realizes he is in love with him the day caleb reminds him to breath. he figures out it's mutual somewhere in aeor and resigns himself to wait with a bittersweet smile on his face while he watches a griefing woman punch the earth while two men kneel before her with sorrow in their eyes. he dares to hope that maybe he wont have to wait for long when he get a kiss to the cheek and a hug, and yet, he finds he doesn't mind either way. for to love caleb widogast would be the best decision he'd keep taking for the rest of his life and in every other infinity possibilities.

yasha takes up pottery / starts sculpting with clay besides gardening and she loves it. essek takes up embroidery besides the gardening and he loves it. she makes him a mug & paints it with a galaxy theme outside & in amber inside. in turn, he embroiders her an apron full with flowers & clouds/lighting bolts. they have neurodivergent stare contests in gratitude. canon

essek is touchy feely and he shows his love through hair. he braids and combs and plays with the hair of all those he is learning to love but specially caleb's. he combs it right out the shower and shows caleb what oils to use to make it not tangle as fast and be softer. he braids it when either of them have too much on their mind, no words exchanged; he simply, softly, braids and braids and pins and de-braids, combs and braids over and over again, going through the repetitive motions until they can both breath a little lighter. on sundays, he weaves freshly picked dandelions into caleb's hair so he starts the week with them (the first time he does this he holds caleb while he cries for his mother's calloused hands and how they did and can't do the same).

essek touches the way someone does when they were never allowed nor prone to touch, like he is afraid he's doing it wrong, like he doesn't know where to put his hands, but he does so tenderly and slowly, and falls into it quicker than he did in aeor. he does too, do it mostly and freely, when absentminded, too busy with other things; while researching he will often call for caleb's attention with a hand to the forearm, sometimes going as far as yanking caleb towards him and his books by his clothes; he leans in closely when he's excited or concentrated and never realizes their cheeks are almost touching until caleb himself bumps their heads together a bit. he's bashful about it later on, but never pulls back, much less regret these shows of intimacy. he finds it fascinating and awe-inspiring that he is capable of such things with somebody who gives and takes as much he gives and takes; it is addicting.

essek is the type to love to the point of creation. caleb gets sore wrist and he creates the typewriter. luc's frustrated he can't cast illusion magic yet and he creates the projection lantern. verin is stationed on a sunny district and he creates sunglasses. i think he loves a lot and he often doesnt know what do with all of that so he creates.

not a hc but a passing thought, there is something there about beau using lighting gloves & marrying a strom lord champion. very sweet.

veth gets her peacock earrings to be reminder of molly in fear that because she knew him only when she was a goblin, she will start forgetting him.

caleb got into magic to be able to warm up his family during winter.

jester ran away once when she was a teen, no plan, bags or shoes, just a spur of the moment thing. when she got to the desolated night beach, she felt such desolation and loneliness unmatched by what she felt in her own room that she didn't stop running until she was in her mother's arms.

drows have retractable claws and therefore toe beans. when he was little and sad or scared, verin used to press on & play with essek's. as an adult, essek plays the same way with his own to calm himself down. verin does not know this, yet does the same.

astrid & eadwulf have almost no sensitivity on their forearms.

yasha takes up a lot of hobbies post canon, her favorites being woodworking and clay sculpting. her favorite things to make are badass wooden plugs/earings and little clay idols and statues for everyone she loves. its easier to show care through creation than with words, and not as intimate as music is for her.

thinking about... essek meeting marion and being like super nervous about it for like a hundred reasons but ultimately being most anxious about giving her a gift that took him hours to perfectly craft; a golden heart shaped locket, with a ruby and sapphire melting into each other at the center of it, that opens up to reveal a programmed illusion of jester laughing.

when marion sees the front she's flattered and endeared, when she sees the core, she tears up and asks for permission to hug him. he says yes and realizes he's being hugged by a mother for the first time*. she ask for his help putting it on and holds it to her chest until jester finally caves and asks excitedly to see what it is. she is delighted, obviously and hugs essek so hard his spine pops a bit.

jester doesn't cry until they have retired for the night and essek shows her that he has a matching one ready to be completed after he got to meet the ruby, as he wanted it to be as close to perfect as he could. essek holds her as she cries, and in turn gets held by caleb when he cries about motherly love and mourns missed and severed bonds between a child and a mother.

* caleb, after hearing essek confess this, says "veth is a mother." essek replies, not unkindly, with "veth is my friend and she hugs me as such; this was a mother way of saying thank you; a show of motherly love. i have never had that." and if his voice breaks amongst the words, that's only for them and the ocean to hear.

i hc that amongst a thousand other things essek's wardrobe changes after the nein, & it's mostly because jester loves clothes and shows love through them too so whenever she gives essek an accessory or clothing item that reminded her of him essek has absolute no other choice than wear it as much as possible.

it's starts with the parasol, then gardening gloves, which were both made with essek around so they're the most discrete as much as ruffles and lace like patters can be discreet, but then in her journeys she's starts to find eccentric jewelry and wildly out of fashion, out of age, camisoles and embroidered pants and she keeps most of them because they're funky and she loves them but then there's the ones that are dark and/or purple and have geometric shapes in silver, with spikes or in soft velvets, maybe sometimes even with amber thrown in there, and what is she even supposed to do then! like she has to now! he'd totallyyy love them!!

and essek. essek always tries them on the minute she hands them to him, and he always does a little pose, sometimes even stays stills as jester draws him and it makes his heart grow in size and warmth and he's always, always thrown for a loop, gets stuck on it for a while, because he doesn't think it'd ever fully click, or he'd fully understand or much less believe that she loves him this much and he loves her just as much and then some.

he thinks that to be loved by jester lavorre is a gift and a blessing that should be treasured like the most precious of gems, even if she gives it out freely or maybe because she does, so he keeps it close to his chest and loves back with everything he has, even if (or maybe because) it means he has to wear bat shaped sunglasses and pattern on pattern suits.

ok i'm not really sure how to word this properly but i feel like essek would sometimes come off as uninterested sometimes because the nein would bring up a piece of trivia about themselves, i.e: fjord grew up a sailor, yasha's from the dolorav clan, cad really loves cooking, etc etc, and would like, not straight up ignore it but wouldn't fully engage in conversation about it. but then a month would pass and he himself would bring up the topic unprompted bc he went and read every book he could get his hands on until he could fully follow the other as they spoke & even bring some insight to it.

and i think this would come from him being a prodigy who never really asked for help because it was not expected of him and the fact, at least in my head, that not knowing and not figuring out shit by yourself would be frowned upon on den thelyss, specially by the umavi herself. something about the vulnerability and therefore weakness that comes from ignorance or wtv. and then, learning about the shared love experience of getting to see the world through the eyes of others, unchaged and not your own. empathy and found family and whatnot... does this even make any sense? <- incomprehensible
