Unpopular opinion but I fucking love when stories that seem like they’re gonna end on a big action setpiece instead have an “anticlimactic” nonviolent finale. I love that a paperwork technicality forcibly ends the Radch civil war. I love that the Temeraire series’s main plot is functionally over after Laurence has an off-page meeting. Sometimes the violence was just the horrible bloody thing you did on the way to finding a real solution.
