People (including me, lol) like to make fun of WWX 's EQ issue for not noticing Lan Zhan's feelings. But actually, disregarding LWJ's series of the wrong way to express one's love, lol, the reason WWX didn't notice it is very much obvious:
They are both male. WWX is unfamiliar with cutsleeves, and every couple around him, even the book he reads, are about men and women. MDZS world setting was set on ancient China which is naturally different with modern days where LGBT culture are flying around and even the most straight guy should be aware of cutsleeve romance.
Wei Wuxian is confident with his own good look, but he won't be crazy enough to think he could actually attract another man's liking, and this man is still the peerless Hanguang-Jun! Lol
Lan Wangji has the assist of forehead ribbon to help him realize that his feelings to WWX are different (Smth like, oh this man pulled my forehead ribbon but I actually didn't hate it or even want him to be the only one who may touch it??!). Whereas WWX has no assist to realize he has different feelings to LWJ. Coincidentally, either LWJ's superficial treatment toward him or other people's evaluation about their relationship didn't help either, lol.
So, how could he know and realize he might like a man, or notice that Lan Wangji who often quarrelled with him actually loves him instead? 😂😂
