artorias being found, trained, and knighted by the God of War at a young age. he is perhaps not even twenty years old, to Ciaran's, Ornstein's, and Gough's centuries. he's an immediate outcast among Gwyn's knights, not only for being an outsider, but also for his youth and inexperience. yet he's naturally talented with the sword and he has a natural resistance toward the consuming power of the Abyss, so he's among Gwyn's four now. why not? the title didn't mean anything, anyways.

#now what if ciartoristein was fucked up even more with Ornstein and Ciaran taking on something like a parental role for Artorias #who was born among humans and never knew his parents #now Ornstein and Ciaran are poor role models who don't see Artorias as worth their time to start.#and Artorias develops this complex where he's terrified of disappointing them #he's young #stunted #big and strong yes but also a child #and he's often physically beat up by the people who are meant to guide him into his role as Gwyn's Abysswalker #the God of War never lays a hand on him but sees this all as some sort of “tough love” (you have to wonder how he was to Ornstein)#and Gough is sympathetic and offers a kind ear but he does very little to help.#like the rest of them Artorias never wanted knighthood. he was merely picked for what he could offer Gwyn's regime #and the others are content to let Artorias suffer in the same way they did.#age gap/abuse/pseudo-familial/romantic relationship CW i guess #Dark Souls #txt

bc he aged in real time in the Hellblazer run, the majority of John’s canon is like, him being middle aged and it shows (he’s a grumpy old man a lot of the time, tho sometimes when the authors want him to seem esp ~cool and hot they seem to forget he’s like, solidly in his 40s and 50s) but comics!john was 33-ish when Hellblazer started (assuming it was set when it came out), and that’s a whole different vibe
