I have been challenged to come up with something that Sephiroth can do in a kitchen.  Because I have always written him as a kitchen disaster who can set water on fire.  But then I thought...

Coffee.  Secret coffee powers.  He can seemingly pay no attention to the coffee grounds versus water ratio, doesn’t even really measure, but somehow it works.  Every time.

(Anyone who discovers this secret power may beg him to make coffee on the SOLDIER floor at least.  Which is why he’ll keep it a secret for as long as he can.)

Just had a thought: reborn Seph after regaining his memories meeting up with a reborn/still-surviving Zack.  Eventually Zack tells him about Lazard’s final moments.

Ah the things that come from random discussions.  I was asked: “What kind of table manners does Seph have?“

Around other people?  Very good.  He did learn, and it's easier to get lost in the ritual.  Especially when everyone else is eating, too.

With friends... still pretty good, just not formal in the least.

...Alone... he is an "eat over the sink" kind of guy and he will admit it to no one.

And now that I think about it, this applies to Safay too.

Because sharing: great big slightly terrifying (to most folks) demon!Seph being around human children.  He understands what they are, in theory, and knows that he needs to be more careful around them, but is also in a constant state of bewilderment because they don’t make any sense.  Except that sometimes they make more sense than fully-formed humans.  And that just makes less sense.

And there’s probably one or two who are absolutely terrified of him, but he might attempt to share food like he’s trying to win over a skittish animal.  ...Not that he knows what to do when they actually decide he’s not so scary.

Safay’s reaction to seeing Kenny Crow the first time: “I... believe I used to have nightmares about that as a child.  Can I bury them again?“

Just thinking about the bits and baubles of ideas I’ve picked at for General Safay Roth.  Being part of a project that turned out to go nowhere and be too expensive; genetically engineered humans rather than clones.  The whole process and the outcomes were too fiddly; too many didn’t make it past infancy, and the ones that did actually thrive...

There used to be more “selected orphans” like him, around his age.  They shared classes and dorms, all wards of the Empire, each one rising in the ranks to become generals (which is not to say that all Niflheim generals were genetically engineered).  As far as Safay knew, Genesis and Angeal were killed in battles.  So says the paperwork.  Sent out to fight, and they simply never returned.

There aren’t any records of their transformations into daemons.  Witnesses tended to be wiped out, via daemon or via Empire, and paperwork was all too easily destroyed.  Making your own daemons was a bit of an imperfect process, or at least being able to control any part of the process was.  Messy stuff, that.

Having any of that knowledge would have turned Safay away from the Empire a great deal faster, certainly.  But given how stable he seemed, it was partly out of “best interest” and partly out of curiosity that everything remained hidden.
