Learning to believe in yourself
My girlfriend, Danielle, is one of the most gorgeous, strong and brilliant girls I know. It has always frustrated me that she doesn't credit herself for how amazing she truly is. I love her humbleness, but I sometimes wonder if it's a lack of confidence...When an incredible job opportunity came up - to open the first Lululemon in London, England - she questioned her ability to accomplish it. I have always believed in her & of course she has successfully opened the showroom and is building a stellar team.
Recently, I realized that I was having a similar doubt in myself. I had been questioning my own ability to build a successful, profitable business. I would say, "I don't like selling," but after some reflecting I realized that it was actually my own fear of under performing.
I had a big ah-ha moment when another girlfriend said, "If you can [sell], you can do anything." Her belief in me helped me believe in myself as well. I realized that I have been resisting sales because it's new to me and I still have a lot to learn. I now see sales as a learning opportunity and a chance to connect with others. I'm so fortunate and grateful to have an incredible family, boyfriend and group of friends who have always believed in me.
I have learnt a couple of things from this:
1. Believe in yourself.
2. If you say "I don't like ____," ask yourself if you really don't like it, or if you're resisting it because you fear it. This awareness will allow you to re-position your mindset - it's most likely a learning opportunity.
3. The importance of surrounding yourself with incredible people who believe in you.
Be fabulous,
xx h
