Someone told me service dogs hate working recently. Someone should let Storm know that. He’s very happy to have a job.
I got sad tonight and was thinking that Swap Henrik was like- really alone. So, I then found out hearing dogs were a thing. So, Schneep’s gonna get a hearing dog soon in the story and her name’s gonna be Sahne which means cream cuz she’s gonna be an English Cream Golden Retriever. And she’s gonna be the goodest girl that Hen is gonna spoil the crap out of and snuggle every night. And she’s gonna be very alert to the sound of static 👀
What breed is your ginger dog?
Ginger is a mutt! She’s a Red nose pitbull/boxer mix, and she’s learned a lot of hearing service dog stuff. She even knows to press a blue light when the microwave goes off and a red light when someone knocks on the door. She’s also a really great walker and an absolute sweetheart. Adopting her from the shelter was one of the best things I did. I love her so much Here’s her in her “service dog in training” vest
I’m going to be working with Ginger to teach her how to preform some hearing dog tasks next week. I’m tired of missing package deliveries because I’m deaf, and the delivery driver can’t be bothered to read the big sign that says “Deaf Please use doorbell ⬅⬅⬅ in two languages. wish me luck. Have any of you trained your own service animal? I’d love to be able to have her alert me about car horns or people yelling at me when we walk around the neighborhood.
Saileen with a hearing dog
I know 12x21 did happen, but I'm ignoring it for the sake of my sanity. I come from a family with five hard of hearing members, one of which is so severe he's almost entirely deaf. But in the last 5 years, two have gotten trained hearing dogs from Canine Companions for Independence. I just couldn't help thinking how pretty much everyone agrees that Sam's happy ending must include a dog, and how it could totally help Eileen (not that she needs it; she's a strong independent woman). And like, if they were still hunting they could train it to sniff out certain scents or take out attackers and no one would expect it because what kind of hunter brings their pet dog? Just imagine: Sam and Eileen with a golden retriever puppy, cuddling with it (you know they'd let it sleep on the bed), teaching it to alert to sounds and tackle vampires ... maybe they'd name him Bones.
As long as she doesn't grow in to those ears because her job is to hear things.
