The venue is a convenience store.
Lights buzz overhead, shelves fully stocked, adigital clock above the counter reads:
The doors slam shut the moment all eight step inside.
Only TWO players may exit the store alive.
All remaining players will be executed.
Hunter laughs once short and sharp.
Giselle’s face drains of color. “It’s a Hearts game,” she says quietly. “This isn’t about strength. It’s about choice.”
Dohun’s hand finds yours instinctively.
A screen behind the counter flickers on.
1. Each player is assigned a drink.
2. Two of the drinks are safe.
3. You may switch drinks at any time.
4. Once the clock reaches zero,
Sungchan clenches his jaw. “So we guess?”
“No,” Jeemin says softly, eyes fixed on the screen. “We betray.”
Sooin slams her palm against the counter. “There has to be another way.”
“There isn’t,” Riku replies, voice tight. “Heart games don’t give loopholes. They test who you’ll sacrifice.”
Each of you receives a bottle, the labels are blank.
Hunter spins his on the counter restless.
“ so two of us live and six don’t”
Giselle avoids everyone’s eyes. “If we cooperate, we could rotate”
“No,” Sungchan cuts in “Someone will lie.”
Dohun leans closer to you,
voice barely above a whisper.
You shake your head. “Don’t.”
“If it comes down to it,” he says, “take mine.”
Your chest tightens. “I won’t survive knowing I did that.” He looks at you not panicked, not afraid Just certain. “I will,” he says. “As long as you live.”
10 minutes remaining, the screen flashes again.
The two SAFE drinks belong to the TWO PLAYERS WHO NEVER SWITCH.
Hunter curses, sooin shoves a shelf and riku freezes completely.
“So if you panic and swap,” Giselle whispers, “you’re dead.”
“And if you trust the wrong person” Jeemin adds, “you’re dead.”
Your hands shake around the bottle.
Dohun hasn’t let go of his.
Everyone starts moving, hunter switches with sungchan, sooin grabs riku’s and giselle hesitates then switches with Jeemin, eyes apologetic.
“Y/N,” he says softly. “If this works…”
“Don’t talk,” you whisper.
Nothing happens to Dohun.
The screen lights up one final time.
You drop the bottle, hands shaking, and turn to him.
Dohun exhales, knees giving out as you fall with him to the floor.
He laughs broken, disbelieving then pulls you into his chest.
“We trusted each other,” he murmurs. “That’s all it took.”
You cling to him, heart racing, knowing the truth
In a world built to destroy trust,
love is the most dangerous gamble of all.
