Yesterday evening Miss Ginger joined the @whisperingwillowssds gang. Oh my, is she the sweetest ever. Despite her disabilites she is a gentle heart. 💗💗💗 She spent the evening with Anna and went into the clinic today. Ginger received a complete workup. Due to her breathing we knew she was not well. Ginger has been switched from senior to hospice care. Ginger is heavy heartworm positive and already in stage 3. She has a very severe case of Spondylosis. It was reported she had a lame foot but in all actuality she is losing the ability to walk due to the condition of her spine.😢 Miss Ginger is also blind, despite all odds this girl is happy. Due to Ginger's age, health status, and current condition she would not be a candidate for hw treatment. She wouldn't survive even the first injection. 😭 We have decided to give Ginger the most pain free ending we can while being loved on and in a family. We have already started a pain management treatment plan for her. She has started doxycycline, prednisone, gabapentin, and tramadol. Once she is finished with prednisone she will do a wash out and start carprofen for further pain management. We will adjust as she progresses. We wish we had better news to share on this gorgeous girl but we can give her a dignified ending.💗 She will be loved and cherished for whatever time she has left which we know is not very long. Ginger met her foster Mom this afternoon and her tail was just a waggin'! Her foster mom Sara is an animal hospital emergency vet tech. She will be in the best of hands in case something were to happen. Ginger also has some new Boxer siblings. Nothing more wonderful than finding the place where you fit in and belong. Miss Ginger is loving her new foster home. She has been on pain management, antibiotics, and prednisone. She is already feeling better just getting some pain some relief. 💗 Her new foster home has two other Boxers and she seems to fit right in! Ginger is calling dibbs on all the beds!! Miss Charlie's departure date for her new rescue is this coming Wednesday. She is headed to the Kentucky Great Dane Rescue. She will be going straight into her new foster home and definitely will be the queen of her castle. The foster family is very experienced and has fostered other hw+ Great Danes. She will be an only kiddo in her home. We know Charlie will be more at ease and can focus on her health. We are continuing to pay for her heartworm treatment until the process is finished. Poor Gerry Berry isn't doing too well. 😢 Unfortunately, his blood was tested and microfilaria are present 😢😢 Our fear is that the hw treatment isn't working. We added Sildinafil to his medication list to treat him for pulmonary hypertension. His coughing is worsening regardless of the medications that are added. He truly is in heart failure. Unless a miracle happens for sweet Gerald we feel his time will be soon. All of us and Gerry have fought so hard to get him healthy. This is what happens when you don't give your pets prevention. Some damage can not be undone. No matter how hard you try. Please keep Gerald in your thoughts and prayers. He needs all of us right now. We were very lucky tonight and got to see our Gerry Berry!! He and Charlie were having a barkingg contest! Gerald is still recovering from his heartworm treatment. Miss Charlie has arrived safely to her new rescue and foster home! She had a great trip with Molly & Anna, even with a few extra special treats! 🍦🍦🍦 Charlie got introduced to her new foster parents. Off she goes...😢💗 Sweet Charlie has left this morning already with Molly and Anna. We sent her off with all her favorite things, clothes, toys, blankies, and food. Charlie loves car rides and will do wonderful all the way to Kentucky. Her new rescue and foster family are waiting. They are so excited to meet her! Charlie will adjust and probably more quickly being the only dog in the home. We will greatly miss this sweet peanut. We know she has to have an only dog home and it is better for the safety of the sanctuary. We will update tonight when they arrive safely.
