Miss Charlie's departure date for her new rescue is this coming Wednesday. She is headed to the Kentucky Great Dane Rescue. She will be going straight into her new foster home and definitely will be the queen of her castle. The foster family is very experienced and has fostered other hw+ Great Danes. She will be an only kiddo in her home. We know Charlie will be more at ease and can focus on her health. We are continuing to pay for her heartworm treatment until the process is finished. Poor Gerry Berry isn't doing too well. 😢 Unfortunately, his blood was tested and microfilaria are present 😢😢 Our fear is that the hw treatment isn't working. We added Sildinafil to his medication list to treat him for pulmonary hypertension. His coughing is worsening regardless of the medications that are added. He truly is in heart failure. Unless a miracle happens for sweet Gerald we feel his time will be soon. All of us and Gerry have fought so hard to get him healthy. This is what happens when you don't give your pets prevention. Some damage can not be undone. No matter how hard you try. Please keep Gerald in your thoughts and prayers. He needs all of us right now. Good morning! We are preparing Charlie for her trip to her new rescue tomorrow! We are very lucky to have gotten Charlotte when we did. Any later and it could have been too late. She has already been through an enormous amount of heartache, abandonment, neglect, and abuse. Our hearts ache for her today. We will do everything in our power to help save Charlie. Charlie is subdued, sleeping more for her age than she should, and less energy. I have just felt that something was not right. Beyond the abuse or her uti. Her bloodwork came back as HEARTWORM POSITIVE. Do you hear me? After her owners specifically said she had been tested and was on hw prevention. Yet they could not provide any vet proof. I am really angry and upset for her today. What don't people understand? Due to her size this will be very expensive. One pill a month is all it takes. Please hear me. ONE PILL A MONTH. Can prevent this. If you can't afford it go find help there are many rescue groups that specialize in low cost vetting and giving donations of product. Regardless of income your pet does not have to suffer. In Charlie's case it wasn't because of income though. They did not care about her or for her. This is why we need you. We normally do not take in HW positive dogs because the seniors are extremely expensive on their own and they can not go without. Our monthly bills are astrnomical. We need your help to support and heal Charlie. She is here and we have to treat her. Charlie is a little younger, strong, and otherwise healthy. We believe she is a great candidate for the full headtworm treatment. Dr. A will be administering and overseeing all of Charlie's care. She will be in great hands! Hey guys, Gerald here!! Wowee... it's been a tough few days for me. I haven't been feeling so great. It's been really hard to breathe and I've been coughing a lot. I'm so happy my mom, Anna and Aunt Valerie noticed and took me to see the Dr. I was in pretty rough shape. My xrays show that my heart failure is worsening 😢😢 That really scares me. That day they put me on more medications and now I'm finally starting to feel better!! My breathing is better, I'm not coughing as much. I'm still really tired though. Next week I get my next heartworm injections. I'm so nervous 😢😢 I'm finally happy, I don't want anything to take that away from me. Will you consider a donation for my care? Today we share some bad news about Gerald. Anna noticed he was really struggling to breathe. Chest xrays show his heart failure is advancing. His oxygen levels are at a very low 93%. Today we are angry. One pill given monthly could have prevented all of this. His suffering isn’t fair, he doesn’t deserve any of this. We won’t give up on Gerald like everyone has his whole life. Gerald, in typical fashion, is as happy as can be but he is slowing down. His coughing is loud and harsh, coughing to the point of almost vomiting. Today he received an injection of Lasix and we will be doubling his dose to help pull the fluid from his lungs. Everyone PLEASE give your pet monthly preventatives. Gerald is needlessly suffering but we won’t give up on him. Gerald will receive his next heartworm injection next week and we are more nervous than ever. These injections are crucial but they can also kill him. We need all the well wishes we can get. Between his heartworm treatment, his emergency surgery and now his advancing heart failure his vet bills are stacking up. Please consider a donation. Your donation goes directly to vet care. Diesel is at work with Anna tonight, she is a vet tech at an emergency vet. So the dogs get to go in with her. Thankfully, she took him tonight. He collapsed out of no where. They have run tests, ultrasounds, etc. He is in heart failure due to the heart worms. They are thinking it was a syncopal episode. Poor guy has been pretty lethargic and is slowly coming out of it.
