I like the hc that Ned's partner might have killed/harmed them in some way? But I was also thinking that maybe her parents rejected her because she's bi...? But that might be too cliche, so maybe not.
Well Travis did say that Aubrey’s parents never cared who she dated. And anyway, I think it’s sort of become TAZ policy that bigotry doesn't exist in their fiction, so I don't think it's that.
Honestly, I also like the HC that Ned was responsible for Aubrey's parents dying, especially in light of him saying that he abhors violence. It could be that it was an accident, and even that he would have been willing to go to court for robbery, but he ran because of the murder. It's interesting to speculate, and, if it were true, I think it would add a lot of depth to Ned. But right now, I don't think it is true, because I don't think anyone has really been acting the way I'd expect them to if Aubrey's parents had been killed.
Maybe the biggest thing for me is that it didn't seem like Griffin knew that Aubrey was going to say yes to Danny's question. He seemed surprised, which makes me think that he knows/thinks that Aubrey can go home. And I don't think Travis would hide the fact that Aubrey's parents are dead from Griffin, since they are NPC's under the GM’s control.
And, of course, it's the kind of thing that Clint would also have to know, since you don't usually just say "surprise, your character killed someone, now RP that." And I don't think Clint was playing Ned as someone who had just been involved in a murder. I just believe that he would have included some hint, or acted a little bit less jovial, or something.
Like I said, maybe I'm way off. I'm speculating about how the Mcelroy's would play their characters in a given situation, and I don't have enough information to do that accurately. But it's what I've got. And I don't think anyone on the other side of the HC has anything more substantial.
