Found an old 3D setup of a bathroom I never did anything with - and I've been in a weird kind of headspace where I just want to sit down and do repetitive work, so what better than meticulously lining a bunch of bathroom tiles!

I think Derek would be fascinated by another shapeshifter hehe

(A lot of) progress shots under the cut for those interested:
The original 3D model and sketch are from 2019 I think, intended as a promare fanart:
Moved things around a bit and changed the poses (originally i was going to have lio putting bandages on his feet and couldn't really find a good reason for a similar pose for derek). Also added a mirrored setup in case i wanted an angle where the reflection in the mirror would be showing:
Sketched over some pose references for stiles (bc the 3D models i'm using clip and deform whenever the arms are moved up over shoulder-height 🤨), a pose idea i ended up scrapping and sketches from two different angles of the 3D model to figure out which one i wanted to go with:
(Actually now I'm looking at these again i'm mad i didn't go for the bottom right one, i really like it argh. Scheduling this post on friday let's see if i don't end up doing something with it before then and add to this post LOL)
Anyway, settled on an angle > sketching out the background:
2nd round of sketching - refining the background and characters (and a nightmare-looking grid for the bathroom tiles) :
Lines > remembering that I should probably decide on a crop at some point > redo the crop later anyway (and fixing Derek's back after heroically trying not to for hours lol) > monochrome shading of the background > coloring the characters last since I wanted the colors here to fit the background
Thought it'd be an interesting process to share :)
Sometimes I will have a very clear visual of what i want to draw and get straight to it, but most of the time I find it fun to recreate the pose and environment i have in mind in my 3D program and try to figure out if there's a more interesting angle to draw it from.
Usually I'll take a few screenshots from different angles and sketch over them - usually going a few rounds of sketching > going back and altering the 3D model a bit > new screenshot > new sketch.
Au where Binghe learns to transform using Xin Mo. fortunately for him, instead of taking on a ferocious form, he's a brushbuddy. Very well. It works for his purposes.
Fuck Huan Hua, he can forgo that altogether. It's easy to slip back into Jing Qing, easier to trail after Shizun who is.. not teaching? Where is he— Oh. That's his sword. His grave. Okay. Okay no need to cry about it.
He begins sobbing and it's hard to stay quite in this form, it comes out in small hiccups. So, ofcourse Shizun immediately zeros in on him. Before he knows it, Shizun is petting him, cooing at him, wiping his tears, calling him a good boy, asking him if he wants food. He sniffles in response and cuddles into his Shizun's hands, rubbing his face against them. If this is how he can be by his Shizun's side, so be it.
