Summary: Take History. Add Dragons. Stir until a Genius makes friends with them and things explode. Take the resulting stock of Hiccup and tamed dragons and set it to simmering in 1040 AD, in the Scottish Hebrides. Add more Kings, Emperors, Romans, Vikings, Conquerors, Spies, Warriors, Thieves, Knights and Nobles, to taste. Take cover, and sit back to watch the fireworks. In Real Life, 1040 was the tail end of the Viking Age; Europe was 50 years from the First Crusade; the Catholic and Greek Orthodox Churches have not yet formally split, William the Conqueror is a frightened teenager in Normandy, the Byzantine Empire is collapsing after a revival under one of their great emperors, and the great Viking Harald Hardrada is a Varangian mercenary there, while the Caliphates are having a rough time from the new Seljuk Empire and their own internal tensions. The most corrupt Pope in history holds Rome, the Reconquista of Spain is underway after the collapse of the Caliphate of Cordoba, and the Norse religion is a pale shadow of what it once was, hanging on around the Baltic Sea, Iceland, Greenland... and the Hebrides. And into that heady mix, there is now Hiccup and Berk. Yeah, history won't know what hit it.

Girl Talk, part 2

Astrid twisted the last damp braid into place, taking great care to secure it lest the whole updo tumble down. Ruffnut had an abundance of hair that required creative solutions, but Astrid figured out an intricate style of plaits that had a use for every strand on her lanky friend's head.

"There! A masterpiece!" she declared, stepping back to admire her handiwork.

"I'm impressed," Heather said, sitting cross-legged on her bedroll. Her freshly washed hair was a loose raven curtain, cascading down her back and dampening her bedclothes.

"Get the shield! Get the shield!" Ruffnut exclaimed, gesturing for the shiny metal plate. She sat still and erect, as if too much movement would shake her hair loose. When Astrid handed her a shield, she studied herself closely. Her expression fell further with each passing second. "Oh, gods. I look like my mother."

Astrid scoffed. "You mean clean? Dignified?"

She had spent a considerable amount of time and care on the style.

Ruffnut pouted. "Exactly."

Heather laughed and practically sprang to her feet. "Okay, me next!"

She shooed Ruffnut off the bed onto her own pallet of furs and took a seat in front of Astrid. Bath night was an opportunity to try new styles. Hair was clean and compliant; the soap and herbal treatments made it smell nice too. Astrid had volunteered to go first and surrendered her long, blonde locks to Ruffnut's nimble fingers. The other two girls then requested Astrid be the one to braid their hair in turn.

"As least you still look like yourself," she said to Ruffnut, who was still sulking on the floor of her hut. "I haven't worn my hair in pigtail braids since I was a little kid."

"You should ask Hiccup what thinks," Ruffnut replied, face splitting into a wide grin. "Maybe he'll like them. Maybe it'll be like having sex with a whole other person."

Astrid stopped combing Heather's hair long enough to throw a middle finger in the other blonde's direction.

"Come on! Like he'd ever! He's only got eyes for this one, here," Heather interjected, pointing over her shoulder. "Everyone knows that."

"Thank you, Heather," Astrid said, feeling her chest swell at the notion that her boyfriend's loyalty was common knowledge, undisputed.

Ruffnut clicked her tongue. "Pity."

Astrid brandished the comb in her direction. "You're on thin ice! I still haven't forgiven you from sneaking down to the beach to spy on the boys the other day."

Ruffnut held up her hands, but her smug grin never faltered. "Whoa! Heather was there too!"

"Yeah, but I kept a respectable distance," the other girl said.

Ruffnut narrowed her eyes and murmured, "Liar."

Astrid shook her head and started twisting the first section of black hair into a tight braid. "You're lucky the boys didn't see you. Snotlout would have taken it as an invitation, Fishlegs probably would have died from embarrassment, Hiccup would still be locked away in his hut, and Tuffnut?" She thought for a moment. "Actually, I'm not sure what Tuffnut would've done."

"Wave it at you," Ruffnut answered flatly. "I may know that from personal experience. Brothers are stupid."

"Yeah, that sounds about right," Astrid said.

"Speaking of Tuffnut, does he even like anyone?" Heather asked.

"Not that he's told me," Ruffnut replied. Arching her brows, she added, "Why? Are you interested?"

Heather recoiled so violently that Astrid almost fumbled her hair. "Gods! No! Not unless he bathes first. Each and every time."

Astrid wrinkled her nose trying to imagine Tuffnut taking any intimate moment seriously before deciding he lacked such capacity. "I still would not, personally."

"I thought the skinny ones were your type," Heather teased, and Astrid could hear the smirk in her tone though she could not see her face.

"That preference begins and ends with Hiccp. Besides, he's solid where it counts."

"Oh, yeah?" Ruffnut spoke up. She moved her hand up and down in midair, fingers coiled around an invisible shaft. "Real hard, I bet."

Astrid's cheeks burned. She grabbed her pillow and chucked it at the other blonde, who ducked. "That's not what I meant!"

"Anyway, I bet Tuff would still be a notch above Snotlout in the bedroom. Apparently, he's awful," Heather opined.

Ruffnut shrugged and leaned back on her hands, "Don't get me wrong! I didn't say he's awful. Only that you gotta get yours first. After he's finished, he's pretty much useless. He gets the job done though."

"Well, that's something, I guess," Astrid said

Heather replied, "Yeah, okay, but does he...?"

Astrid could not see what gesture was made from her vantage point behind the other woman, but she could assume the meaning as Heather brought her hand up to her face, out of sight.

Ruffnut grinned deviously. "Like he's starving for it."

Assumptions, correct. Astrid had to give Snotlout credit where it was due: he had at least figured out that much, putting his loudmouth to better pursuits from time to time.

Heather chuckled. "Wow! Good for you!"

"What about Fishlegs? Does he?" Ruffnut asked with a shimmy of her bony shoulders.

"Of course. Though he's very...methodical about it."

"Probably read about it in a book once," Astrid interjected as she sectioned off another lock of hair. Heather turned around to swat at her before she could start the next braid, both girls laughing. "Sorry, sorry!"

Ruffnut's brow furrowed as she read from an imaginary tome. "The female creature is a terrible and confusing thing, but this step-by-step guide will help you part the folds of her mysteries!"

"Ew! Don't say it like that!" Astrid giggled, whishing she had another pillow to throw.

"Gross!" Heather concurred. "It's not like that at all!" She clarified, "I think he just has compiled a set technique in his head, and he won't deviate from that. Thankfully, it works."

Astrid nodded. "Don't fix what isn't broken."

"Exactly!"

But Ruffnut was on a roll. She turned her attention to Astrid and said, almost gleeful, "I bet Hiccup goes down like it's his job."

Astrid felt her heart pounding and stomach twist. The heat in her neck and face told her she was blushing as much as she hated it. "He is very...eager to please, yes."

"I'll bet!" Heather practically whooped.

Astrid shrugged, burning sensation traveling to her ears. "I mean, that was how he found out I could go multiple times--"

Heather whipped around so fast she could've cracked her neck. "What do you mean, 'multiple times'?"

"You know, multiple times. Not just one orgasm--"

Ruffnut's mouth fell open. She scrambled across the floor on her knees. "Hang on. You come more than once? In the same session? You can do that?"

Astrid considered both of her friends staring up at her, incredulous. "Well, yeah. Don't you?"

Heather shook her head and muttered, "Clearly, Fishlegs and I need to step up our game."

Ruffnut's eyes narrowed at Astrid. "How?"

"How, what?"

"How do you do it?" the other blonde clarified.

Astrid nearly burst out with a short, dry laugh. What a ridiculous notion, to explain the deeper carnal workings of her body that even she did not fully understand. She had never endeavored to have multiple orgasms from the start. The thought never crossed her mind. But there was just something in the way Hiccup touched her that set her blood on fire and strummed the right chord on every nerve. Once he realized that he could do that for her, he kept going until she was well satisfied; he continued to do so ever since. The how was far less important than the why of it.

"I don't know how, exactly!" she exclaimed. "It's not something I can make myself do. We were just fooling around one night. We thought I was done, but then Hiccup did this thing with his tongue and his fingers at the same time, and I just--"

"Well, that's going right into the spank bank," Ruffnut muttered under her breath.

Astrid gasped. "Don't you even think about it!"

The other blonde donned a wicked, unapologetic grin. "Too late. It's being thought about."

Heather spoke up, "Okay, so clearly we are in agreement that we'd all screw Hiccup if we got the chance."

Astrid resisted the urge to yank her hair. "Excuse me, but when did we agree on that?"

"Well, we have to find out whether multiple orgasms a you thing, or if Hiccup is just that talented," Heather replied.

Ruffnut nodded, matter-of-factly. "We'd fuck him for science, obviously."

With that. Astrid did give the newest braid in Heather's dark hair a swift, pointed tug.

"Ow!" Heather hissed, gripping her head. "Gods! Okay! We get it! This is purely theoretical!"

"Yes, yes," Ruffnut agreed with a dismissive wave. "Neither of us has a death wish. Go ahead and keep those talented fingers and tongue all to yourself."

"I will, thank you." Astrid grumbled, "Not that I needed the permission."

With that, she put the finishing touches on Heather's new hairstyle: three braids of different thicknesses woven into one, intricate plait. She handed her friend the shield and watched as she admired her reflection, fondly.

"Aw, I love it!" Heather said. "You're going to have to teach me how to do this on myself."

"Sure, no problem," Astrid replied, feeling the heat drain from her features as the conversation turned back to something far less bawdy.

But, if Ruffnut could be counted on for one thing, it was to never leave an innocent chat between friend uncorrupted.

She stood up and leaned in toward Astrid with an unsettling smile. "So, what is your personal record?"

Heather also glanced back her, biting her lip with an impish gleam in her eyes.

Astrid inhaled sharply, holding the breath while she studied her eager friends, hanging on her every word.

With a heavy sigh, she muttered, "Five."

The other two girls practically squealed and shuffled closer, killing any lingering hope of returning to an otherwise wholesome hangout between friends.

Experiment/Simulation

I've been thinking about RTTE a lot lately, especially how it relates to the movies. I've been wondering a lot specifically about if, under different circumstances, Fishlegs would've wound up with Ruffnut or Heather (or Snotlout, who never canonically dated Fishlegs, but clearly had a crush on him, especially his alter ego). In order to test this, I have loaded up a household of Hiccup, Astrid, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Fishlegs, Snotlout, and Heather on The Sims 4 and put them all in a house that looks like Dragon's Edge. Now, we wait for the autonomous results. In the meantime, I got Tuffnut a chicken coop and I had Hiccup and Astrid do the weird time travel thing. I'll keep y'all updated.
