12 THINGS TO KNOW UPON ENTERING A LIMINAL SPACE
ENTERING THE IN-BETWEEN
1. When you enter the liminal space, you are a guest. Be respectful and do not overstay your welcome.
2. Only take what is offered to you. Do not remove objects from liminal spaces on your own accord. Take gifts that are given, but be cautious. Some tokens may have darker energies attached to them. Purify all objects regardless of the energy you feel off it when you return.
3. Do not turn around. Whatever is following you wants your attention for the wrong reasons. Stay focused. A friend will greet you face-to-face, foes like to beckon from behind.
4. Be constantly mobile. Don’t linger in one place for too long, things may attach to you without your consent.
5. Time is your enemy. It will pass quickly when you’re not paying attention. When you are paying attention, it slows. Check the clock occasionally, not obsessively, and do not forget to do so.
6. If you feel lost, do not go back the way you came, that portal is gone. You must always travel forward. Remember, you’re being followed.
7. If you feel stuck, it’s the spirits playing tricks. You are alive. You cannot be stuck. They are the ones that cannot leave. The only one that can keep you here is yourself.
8. Always carry a trinket that solaces you. It can be anything, and it does not have to be the same item every time. Ideally, this object is NOT a picture of a family member, loved one, or friend; you don’t want them knowing who you are close to.
9. Strange scents, sights, and sounds are lures from the dead. Follow them at your own risk. Sometimes, great wonders can be found. Other times… great horrors.
10. Traveling alone makes you more susceptible to encounters. Benign spirits tend to be timid and are only comfortable one-on-one. Aggressive spirits like to single you out and are more emboldened to contact a lone target. To increase your chances of encounters, enter the space alone. However, if you lack confidence or skill in traversing liminal spaces alone, enter with someone that shares your energy or with another hedge witch if you still want to have a chance at an encounter.
11. Don’t rely too heavily on electronics. Energies and frequencies can be manipulated and thwarted unexpectedly in liminal spaces. Aluminum batteries, phone charges and signals, cameras and recorders can all be drained, distorted, and broken. For example, bring candles and matches/lighters, watches, paper maps, and a compass just in case.
12. Be careful not to bring anything out with you unintentionally. Dishonest spirits like to become stowaways on your person. A spirit with good intentions will bond with you before accompanying you. Purify yourself once you return, this should be your first priority.
