Rewatching SVTFOE made me realize Festivia is a secretly tragic character.

Don’t get me wrong, Meteora def went through a lot of abuse from being taken from her family and left in the care of a psycho robot. But I feel like Festivia was also a victim.

Cuz imagine growing up while being told your parents were eaten by monsters who are warring against your kingdom. Oh and your mother was also the queen of darkness who betrayed your kingdom by marrying and running off with a monster, leaving you and your people to fend for themselves.

Edit: I realize how contradicting that sounds since why would they lie to Festi that Eclipsa was eaten by a monster when her tapestry exists and literally says she ran off with him? Maybe they said she was eaten after running away?

You have to work extra hard to prove to them that your nothing like your traitor mother and can be trusted, all the while trying to protect them from constant monster attacks and having 0 knowledge on how to actually lead a kingdom cuz you have no mother figure/former queen to guide you. All you have are a group of reckless magic users who give awful advice and only see you as a puppet to promote their racist agenda that’s fueling this never-ending war in the first place. They spoon feed lies about your origin and identity just so they can mold you into their ideal image of a queen.

The worst part is that she died without knowing this and genuinely believing the MHC only wanted what was best for her (maybe they did to some extent but let’s be real, they more saw her as a tool)

It’s no wonder Festivia was always getting wasted and throwing parties. She was trying to not only distract her people from the stress of monsters, but also distract herself from the stress/trauma of her life!

Maybe I’m just looking too deep into her character cuz I have a soft spot for her. But I feel like both Meteora and Festivia were put through different harsh environments to live up to toxic expectations of a proper woman. They ended up growing into different people as a result of their awful upbringings. Meteora a revenge-seeking woman fueled by trauma. And Festivia a toxic positivity queen who parties as an escape her trauma.

In short, FUCK THE MAGIC HIGH COMMISSION
