AN OFFERING TO HEKATE BRIMO 𖦹
ˋˏ-༻𖦹༺-ˎˊ
"Hekate Brimo . . . hearing his words from the abyss, came up . . . and hounds of the underworld (kunes khthonioi) barked shrilly all around her." ~ Apollonius Rhodius, Argonautica 3. 1194 ff (C3rd B.C.)
This week's guided meditation is with Hekate Brimo!
Hekate Brimo is the Angry One or The Terrifying One. This epithet was a name that Hekate was called by or identified as in ancient literature, including by Medea in the Argonautica and in Alexandra by Lycophron. She was the maiden daughter of Perses and turned Queen Hecuba into a dog.
Typically in modern practice, we associate this epithet with fierce transformation, intensity, shadow work, justice, courage, and strength.
Let me know what you think :) I hope you enjoy!
In episode 4 of hexes and hoes I was challenged by my cohost to do some art for specific epithets of Hekate.
As promised I have done so!
In order we have Hekate Brimo, Hekate Einalia, and Hekate as the collective of all her epithets.
These are my interpretations and personal experiences with Hekate. If anyone else has a different interpretation I would love to hear and/or see it!
Hail to You, Crowned in Serpents, oh Face Twisted in Rightful Wrath, Sharp-tongued, Dread-inducing, Horrifying Hekate. Hail to you.
🐍🍷🔥
Hekate Brimo, Terrifying Goddes who threads into the night, Crowned in Oak and Serpents, Devourer of Spirits, Guarded by Hounds, I light this candle in your honor.
Hekate — Lady Protectress
Savage Brimô, terrifying Goddess, wrathful and mighty. may your flame burn the malicious and your rage ward the lowly
"Hekate Einodia, Trioditis, lovely dame, of earthly, watery, and celestial frame, sepulchral, in a saffron veil arrayed, pleased with dark ghosts that wander through the shade; Perseis (daughter of Perses), solitary goddess, hail! The world's key-bearer, never doomed to fail; in stags rejoicing, huntress, nightly seen, and drawn by bulls, unconquerable queen; Leader, Nymphe, nurse, on mountains wandering, hear the suppliants who with holy rites thy power revere, and to the herdsman with a favouring mind draw near."
