one thing about hel squared is that they're sort of the subversion of the "holy shit my partner's family is insane" trope where helena bertinelli has experienced the batfam bullshit already several times before helena wayne got displaced from earth 2, so it'll be helena wayne discovering these nonsense herself for the first time. each time helena bertinelli warns her with a rundown, helena wayne is like, "yeah i was an only child and things were different, but surely it's not that bad here" except each time, she ends up thinking, holy shit this IS that bad, what is wrong with this family, and helena wayne is ranting all about everything that's wrong with the batfam to helena bertinelli, and helena bertinelli listens but is also like babe i could not give less of a fuck about batman's nth parenting failures he doesn't surprise me

helena bertinelli and helena wayne have so much to bond over. like that one specific weird time in their canon when their relatives whose deaths haunt the narrative and who they had been grieving for years turned out to be alive and just faking their deaths this whole time and now suddenly said relatives want to make up for lost time and reconnect while also reclaiming a certain legacy.

context: in batgirl and the birds of prey, there was a retcon where it turned out that helena's mother faked her death somehow and became a mafia boss, while in earth 2 comics, it turned out that thomas wayne had never died in that alleyway and he's now batman and teaming up with his granddaughter.
