bcs humor peaked with episode 2 and has yet to top itself since.
hot take—i do genuinely think that chicanery’s final act is the most flawlessly executed segment of the entire series (thus far). for a show with a lawyer at its center, we don’t spend nearly as much time in court as you’d expect. every single one of those moments is electrifying and more than memorable, but this one’s still far and away my favorite. gordon smith’s writing is perfect. courtroom dramas can often feel formulaic, and gordon overcomes this by using a traditionally very procedural process to tell the incredibly personal story of the relationship between two brothers, at odds. though it takes place almost entirely in a single room, gordon’s episode is never boring. and despite the presentation of immense amounts of information and legalese, the episode is never overwhelming. the final act is an absolute powerhouse. the twist is equal parts shocking and devastating, and ingenious in its simplicity. it’s masterful. and there’s so much more i could say about it, but for the sake of time, i’ll leave it here. bravo, gordon.
something stupid, my beloved. from the music, to the lola marsh version recorded specifically for the show itself, to the narrative and thematic implications, to the visual symmetry (above), to the way it makes me feel absolutely unhinged, despite how often i rewatch it (every single day). on a show known for its editing ingenuity, and particularly montage sequences, it’s the perfect representation of what bcs does so well.
45: prettiest suit howard wore.
because i can’t choose just one… the first one is probably the “prettiest,” but i’m quite fond of howie in the darker colors (ie. greys and navys).
