TODAY IN FICTION... except maybe not. Does Hell Baby (🇺🇸2013) really take place in 2022?

When I saw Hell Baby on the Wikipedia category for movies set in 2022, I would have been quite happy to find a plot synopsis online, rewrite it within the scope of this blog, and call it a day. I watch most the stuff I post about on here, but I’m not a fan of cheap American horror. Except Hell Baby is unpopular enough that I couldn’t find any decent plot summaries and ended up having to actually watch it myself, which is when I discovered there is not a single mention anywhere in that movie as to its temporal setting, other than the fact it’s set in post-Katrina New Orleans.

I tracked down the editor who first edited the Hell Baby Wikipedia article to claim it was set in 2022, and found that they are an unregistered user who has made no other edits to Wikipedia. When they made this change they provided no reasoning or citation, but nevertheless it was picked up by someone else and added to the “Movies set in 2022″ category, which is how it ended up on my own list of media set in 2022, and on that of a professional content farm. To be fair, the writer of that ScreenRant piece also notes that the 2022 setting is “barely addressed”. If anyone has any actual evidence of this movie’s temporal setting then I’d love to hear it.

Incidentally, I can tell you that it takes place in late April or early May, because when one of the characters claims there have been no murders in the Mason de Sang this calendar year, another responds with something like, “Oh good, that’s a whole four months.” The year, however, remains a mystery.

Always check your sources. But probably don’t watch this movie. It’s not very good.
