on young parents; a psa
so my parents had me pretty young (mom was 19, dad had just turned 22) which has led to some...unique experiences.
my parents have also both aged like fucking vampires. they could easily pass for early thirties now.
i have not! I look roughly 5-7 years older than what I am, plus I act like it.
this dichotomy means I cant leave the house with my dad anymore without people assuming he's a massive creep/pred taking me, presumably a victim, on a date. it's really fucking gross!
it is especially gross when people make a big deal out of it. if you find out the person someone is with at the time is their DAD and not their BOYFRIEND do fucking not say something like:
"OH WOW HE'S YOUR DAD??!!?! I LITERALLY NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED I TOOOOTALLY THOUGHT HE WAS YOUR BOYFRIENDDDD WOWWW"
hey so that's really fucking gross. don't do it. it makes us both feel very very icky. keep that to your damn self.
ive also had to deal with people saying "wow your parents are really hot" constantly, but I don't think that's necessarily a young parents thing. my mom's goth, what are ya gonna do I guess. still don't tell me that though how tf do you want me to respond dude.
so yeah! a rule I like to follow because of this experience is "assume every relationship is platonic unless explicitly told otherwise"
i do understand the kneejerk alarm bells for possible creeps. unfortunately they're fucking everywhere and they're awful. but at the same time, assuming every relationship is romantic is super weird & don't do it.
anyone else have to deal with this?
