So my sister’s wedding just finished
and now everybody is asking me when I’m getting married......
When I was slightly younger and I imagined my future life, there was no hint of dating.
It didn't even cross my mind. I only considered it when others brought it up. And then, I dreaded the thought. Having to pick through the crap to find a good person. Having to build up trust and a relationship. Having to tick all those boxes as you develop as a couple, buying an apparent, getting married etc.
Anyway, when I looked to the future, I usually looked further, when I was a bit older and in a stable relationship. With jobs and a house. I wasn't picky, I just wanted to be...I don’t want to say ‘happy’ and be cliché, but yeah. I never really imagined kids, as I'm not one for children, but this pleasant life really appealed to me. Especially compared to the complicated and unsure dating world.
Perhaps I was just anxious about having to build a new relationship and paranoid about potentially driving someone away, while in a long-term relationship means that you know eachother well, get on, and they have proved, by being there, that they enjoy your company. Perhaps it’s because I was confused about romance/sex etc, but that’s for another post - or the rest of the blog.
