Grave Error

Summary: Someone tries to steal from Pleonexia Author’s Note: Something short I wrote a while ago that I think is hilarious. Sidenote that the Magpies use nicknames for each other, to protect their identities and to create a sense of friendliness (they live together, after all)

The loud thud of doors slammed closed easily drew the attention of everyone inside the building. A small group of loitering Magpies turned their heads to see one of their own being half carried, half dragged by two others, shouting and protesting and desperately trying to get his polished shoes to grip on the floor. After them, Pleonexia followed with stiff strides and her unusually furious gaze fixed on the protesting underling. It wasn’t difficult to see that she was several inches taller than usual.

“What did Ranger do?” One of the observing Magpies asked, and another shrugged as a fourth unoccupied Magpie walked up to join them.

“Guy tried to steal from the collection in her office.” The newcomer supplied. A couple of them took sharp intakes of breath. The fourth Magpie was of course referring to the various pieces of jewellery and other stolen items that Pleonexia chose to keep in her office instead of hidden away with the rest of her fortune.

“Bad idea.” The second Magpie remarked.

“And then when she found him, the idiot tried to hit on her.” The forth continued. The third Magpie laughed out of the sheer absurdity of it.

“He did not!”

The fourth Magpie nodded in confirmation. Ranger screamed for help again. He was dragged through the doors leading to the basement of suspended cages and torture instruments downstairs, and then Pleonexia turned towards him and the doors closed of their own volition, slamming just like before. Everything was silent for a while, some of the Magpies frowning regretfully at the unforeseen betrayal, before the first Magpie exhaled.

“Thanks for telling us, Wingtip.” He patted her shoulder before heading off, and the others did the same. At this point, it was better not to do anything else that might upset the boss.

It was nice being here...

So this morning I noticed something odd, I had a new voice mail but no missed call. Naturally I listened to it but there wasn't a real message: at first it was just silence, and then wind resistance ( like someone talking in the car with the windows down- sans the talking) and then there was gargling sounds and something like creepy chanting. Realizing that I may have done something stupid, I deleted the message without listening to the whole thing....
