Jack’s eyes widened when Tobias shoved him into a wall and knocked the breath out of him, and for a moment he was scared that he had been following the wrong person. But-- no. No, it was undoubtedly Tobias who was cutting off Jack’s air. Jack’s fingers scraped over rough brick and he was torn between struggling to keep his plasmids in check, and struggling to breathe against the pressure on his throat.
And then Tobias began to change, and Jack let ice coat his fist unrestrained.
“What-- wh-what--” He held up both hands as a barrier between himself and the inhuman being in front of him. The inhuman being who was Tobias, his-- friend.
Jack’s eyes were narrowed and wild and his ice was spreading rapidly over his forearm. Still, he made no move to attack Tobias. Jack was scared and confused, but he still wanted so desperately to trust the one person with whom he had connected since his return to the surface.
“What was that?” His tone was sharp and unfriendly. Awkward was an understatement. “You’re spliced? Or-- or something? What the hell?”
