Pairs Well With…Sigur Ros, Beach House, The xx

Hello Nico’s music is lush and expansive, combining dream pop and post rock just about 50/50. Orchestral accompaniment gives their 2016 EP 閉上眼睛 a grand coating, cinematic glory encompassed in all four tracks. Oh, and if you haven’t caught on, the Taiwanese band doesn’t perform in English, but their instrumental-focused music expresses emotions finely without defining the words. Melodies and electronic soundscapes interweave functionally and creatively, though Hello Nico are subtly succinct, packing even ambient moments tightly within their songwriting. For alt rock ears, Hello Nico incorporates moments of power chord pop in their songs too, nicely sparingly, often peaking at track’s end.

Written by (guitarist/keyboardist) 李詠恩 Joshua Lee and arranged/produced by the full band.  More of a ‘pop’ sound than I’m used to from Hello Nico, but it’s charming to hear 詹宇庭 Dorian sing over something this bouncy.  =)
