17. Funniest concert memory?
lol okay so this is only funny in retrospect, because it was horrifying at the time. my first concert was lilith fair when i was 13, and i went with my mom. and before the music started, there was a couple a few rows in front of us making out very ostentatiously, and it offended my mother, so she wrote a note on a band-aid (which was the only paper she had) saying to knock it off because there were kids present, and she made the people in front of us pass it to the next row, to the next row, to the next row, until it got to them. WTF MOM, BE COOL.
22. Have you ever caught a guitar pick, drumstick, got a setlist, etc.?
i’ve got a couple guitar and bass picks and a few setlists. a drunk girl threatened to fight me once because she swore the bass player was throwing the pick directly at her and she was furious that i caught it instead. i didn’t even want it, but i kept it on principle. another time, a pick was thrown very directly right at me, and i missed it, and people around me were like knocking me out of the way to search for it. this was outside right after a rainstorm, so people were like on their hands and knees in the mud trying to find it. after a few minutes, i found it in my hoodie pocket - it must have hit me and bounced in there somewhere. i…didn’t tell anyone and just let them keep looking :x
52. Favorite song you’ve heard live?
fuck, this is hard. i really, really liked hearing “no control” live, but i’m gonna circle back to that because i need to start with goo goo dolls, who i’ve seen live like fif…ty…times? wasn’t sure when i was going to admit that on tumblr, apparently it’s right now! 😐 anyway, they were my favorite band for like fifteen years and a really important sort of..centering force for me? like my emotional core that made me not want to be a crazy person? and their song “better days” is very tied in to the part of me that decided i wanted to like, try to be alive and figure out a way to get through things even when they were shitty, so hearing that live always kind of fucks me up in a good way.
when i stopped being such a crazy fan of them, which i had to do because it was taking over my life, i was sad because i didn’t think i’d ever feel that way again? like that way it felt to just lose myself in a concert and be completely perfectly happy. i just figured it was gone forever. but i did end up feeling that way again at my one direction shows, and i’m really grateful i had the opportunity to see them and to feel connected to like some bigger kind of…jubilation? it was really, really special for me to recognize that i still had the capacity to be that happy.
