Leighton loved going to Sips while you were at work. She would sit there for hours just doing her homework, or watch something on her phone, to be in your presence. Today, she was working on her homework, glancing your way every now and again. It wasn't too busy, so you started cleaning the counters. You heard a phone ring and looked up to see it was Leighton's.
“Hi Nico.” She says as she answers the phone. Your girlfriend tenses up. “Nico, what's wrong?” You walk her way as she drops her phone on the table, her body trembling. “Hey, what's wrong, baby?” You ask, crouching down besides her. A tear rolls down her cheek. “Leighton? Leighton, are you there?” You hear from her phone.
“Hey Nico, it's y/n.” You say as you put her phone to your ear. “I'm at the hospital.” You stand up and step to the side as Leighton starts hurriedly shoving her books into her bag. “What happened, are you okay?” You hear the worry in his voice. “It's our parents, they were in an accident. I don't know anything yet, they are still assessing them.” You try to stay calm for the Murray siblings. “Okay, we will be there as soon as possible.”
You tell Leighton to stay put as you head to the back to grab your bag. “Lila, I will explain later but I need to leave right now, family emergency.” You're back by Leighton's side before Lila could answer. “Come on, I'll drive.”
The silent ride to the hospital seemed to last forever. When you parked the car you were quick to make your way to the ER waiting room, where you found Nico. Leighton fell into his arms before slumping down in one of the seats. “Any news?” You ask as you give him a hug too. “Nothing yet, the doctors said they would tell me as soon as they got an update.”
Just as you sat down with Leighton a doctor came walking up to you. “Hi, is this the rest of the family?” The doctor asks. Nico nods quickly, wanting the doctor to tell them what was going on. “So, your parents were brought in by the paramedics after a collision between a few cars. Both Henry and Mimi suffered some injuries, I will start with Mimi. She broke her collarbone, and has some cuts and scrapes, besides that she also has a concussion. The trauma team is currently with her working in the collarbone. She is unconscious at the moment from the heavy sedation the paramedics had to give on site. We will be able to tell more about her concussion as soon as she wakes up.” You are all nodding along as he speaks, holding on to each other as you receive the news. “Henry, was driving, and got the bigger hit. His legs were pinned, the orthopedics team is operating on him as we speak. I will update you once we know more.”
The three of you sat down again. You held Leightons hand to bring her the slightest bit of comfort, as she leaned against Nico's shoulder. Over the next few hours the doctors came with small updates, ‘Mimi's collarbone would heal on its own’ and ‘They are still working on Henry in surgery.’ It was getting late, and neither one of you had eaten anything for hours. “We should eat something. I'll go down to the cafeteria to get us something, call me if you need anything okay?”
When you got back Leighton had fallen asleep on Nico's shoulder. You decide to let her sleep, and set her food and drink to the side. Nico thanks you for the food and eats it in silence. About half an hour later the doctor comes your way with another update. “I have good news.” You wake Leighton. “Hey, baby, wake up. The doctor says he has good news.” She sits up right away. The doctor smiles and continues. “ Henry is out of surgery, he is in the recovery room now. We will move him to the room with Mimi shortly. Speaking of Mimi, she is awake and her neuro check up was clean. We will monitor both of them closely but they should both make a full recovery.” Leighton leans into you for comfort, you wrap your arm around her and pull her close. “If you’ll follow me, I will take you to Mimi’s room, we will transfer Henry to the same room shortly.”
“Mom!” Both Murray siblings say as they run to her side. You hang back, letting them have a moment with their mom. You carefully place the bags, coats, and food on the small counter. “How’s your father?” She asks Nico. “He is going to be okay. They said he just got out of surgery, and will be moved to this room shortly." Once Leighton and Nico sit down, Mimi looks up at you, “Come here, darling.” You walk to her bedside, she immediately takes your hand in her own. “Thank you for taking care of my babies.” You smile at her, “Of course, and if there is anything you need, let me know.” Your conversation gets interrupted by the doctors wheeling Henry’s bed into the room. “Dad!” The siblings said in unison again.
It was getting late, both parents had to stay overnight, and you weren’t allowed to stay. So, you drove Leighton home. Nico had driven there himself, so he went home in his own car. The rest of the evening you spend in bed with Leighton, her cuddled up in your arms as you held her tight. Placing soft kisses to her head, until she fell asleep. The next morning you drove both Leighton and Nico to the hospital for visiting hour. You could tell that both Henry and Mimi had gained back some energy, which was a good sign. The doctors assure you that they will make a full recovery, which was a relief for the family.
