I think that Vecna intended for Will to use anger to access his powers.

But—Will used love instead. Self-love, and reminders of Mike and his family showing him love and admiration. And that’s what will cause Vecna’s loss.

He showed Will memories where Will felt isolated for being queer and then told him he doesn’t belong here. He told El to use anger to fuel her powers—and she did.

So he assumed Will would do the same. Just for Will to turn around and do this:

thinking about mike vs vecna confrontation where mike calls henry a freak creep for his obsession towards will and then henry turns the fucking table and uses mike's internalized homophobia against himself

"do you really think that you and i are any different when it comes to him?"

if vecna is smart he would use byler's feelings against each other. he would tell will that mike never loves him, would never want to be with him.

and he would taunt mike's desires and feelings for will to be the same the ones he has for will. henry would make the good, noble, leader mike feel guilty by telling him that he's a fucking hypocrite because all the feelings henry has for will aren't so different than what mike has for him.
