Small suburban garden, bursting with life after three years of cultivating and nurturing. 🌱
Well, I made the best out of the herb bed failure by sheet mylching over it for next year. Here is the before picture.
I started chopping and dropping by hand, but it took me like 20min to do about 6 sqft. I mowed the majority as best I could and then chopped the edges in by hand so they would have a hard time escaping out of the side. I left all the clippings on top. I also popped in my lemonbalm transplant I bought for $5 from a local gardener on Facebook marketplace.
Then a layer of contractor's paper.
Then some free local mulch. Normally I'd say woodchips, but this load was extra leafy.
Ta-dah!
Finished for now, I have a lot more plans for the spring.
I actually did this a few days ago and am just getting around to pics, but cleaned up the herb bed in preparation for May Market. Removed dead stuff and weeds, and yanked back and trimmed perennials that had invaded their neighbors' spaces.
Now there's room to buy ALL THE PLANTS! 😁
Gravel Dublin Ideas for a sizable, traditional backyard with gravel landscaping in the summer.
Good night Herb Bed. I uprooted a portion of each plant and brought it in for the winter - but in case they don’t survive I also trimmed a small portion for the dehydrator. If nothing else, we at least have dried herbs over the winter. We’ll see what comes back in the spring, this is the first time we’re letting them stay in the bed for the winter. Worth a try I suppose.
