Thank you @isokratos !
More hope-posting.
We had our trees trimmed in November. It was really necessary and they did a great job (no topping, everything followed the state's fire compliance rules), but they used leaf blowers at the end to clean up, and one of the big branches crashed down and took out one of my elderberry bushes. 😭
Well, we had 3 straight days of rain last week.
And my Creeping Snowberries are coming back! From bare sticks to being covered in tiny leaves again. (First pic)
And the Elderberry is even trying to come back! 🥰 I thought the roots didn't have enough time to establish, but apparently something made it through because look at that tiny little cutie! (Second pic) It'll probably be a few years behind its "siblings," but since these are supposed to get pretty big I doubt it matters in the long run.
This same bush today, now a foot tall or slightly bigger.
the bog gave me a vision
We got a bunch of snow yesterday, and I snapped some neat pics.
Digital illustration of an indigenous man with two braids wearing a jean jacket. There's text that reads, 'Columbus didn't discover anything.'
Also the garlic and chives are absolutely *nuts.* I think it's going to be a pretty good harvest this year!
Well hello, old friend.
The daffodils that we got from my son's school are popping up, and we even have a flower!
And two years later my Lenten Roses have finally bloomed.

Native plants blooming in the winter time at the San Joaquin Marsh Preserve’s visitor garden.
It’s gotten so fashionable on tumblr to hate on The Beatles but who else is going to eat rotten wood and contribute to soil fertility in complex forest ecosystems?
