we did No Now May, here are my thoughts (pre-mow):
beautiful
learned a lot about the common walk ways
and soil quality
got some landscaping ideas
increased wildlife activity for sure
holy pollen bomb
not sure how to mow 2ft tall grass
ticks cross my mind more than they used to
haven't found any
the amount of grass pollen cannot be overstated
Well, I made the best out of the herb bed failure by sheet mylching over it for next year. Here is the before picture.
I started chopping and dropping by hand, but it took me like 20min to do about 6 sqft. I mowed the majority as best I could and then chopped the edges in by hand so they would have a hard time escaping out of the side. I left all the clippings on top. I also popped in my lemonbalm transplant I bought for $5 from a local gardener on Facebook marketplace.
Then a layer of contractor's paper.
Then some free local mulch. Normally I'd say woodchips, but this load was extra leafy.
Ta-dah!
Edwin is helping me plan the garden today.
My main mulberry tree is going strong now! (Zone 6a) They are ever bearing so I have been picking a handful every day as I walk the grounds. The two on the North side of the garage are still ripening since they get less sun.
This is also most convenient one for me because it is drooping down right in the backyard where I let Soda roam (I spy a little white dog). Most of the berries are too high for me to pick and are very popular with the local birds 🐦
Okay, updated with herbs. This is gonna be fun...
It's Nov. 8th and my garden is still giving me cauliflower and broccoli.
Wash and freeze!
My fall crops in mom's garden + strawberries and the last few of mom's tomatoes. My radishes, peas, and spinach were started indoors in late August and transplanted into the garden as seedlings.
