I was looking up some of the production details of "Turnabout Intruder" for one of my posts in drafts about it, while I'm on that kick, and apart from the unexpected OJ Simpson appearance (??????), one detail that stuck with me was the director wanting to take shortcuts with the set and tangling with Shatner about it, a man who a) is such a creature of the stage that sometimes it's difficult to believe he was born in a normal way and didn't just materialize on a William Shatner respawn point in some Montréal theatre, and b) was really sick with the flu at the time and possibly a bit high on medication to keep working.
From what I can tell, it was basically like
WALLERSTEIN: Okay, Bill, you exit through that side— SHATNER: No, I can't, that's a wall. WALLERSTEIN: It's literally cardboard, yes you can. We'll just add a door and— SHATNER: But we established in earlier scenes that that side of this room is a wall and not a door so we can't just make it a door now, it's a wall and I can't walk through a wall. WALLERSTEIN: We're literally just wrapping up and the show is cancelled anyway, if we can just hurry along— SHATNER: IT'S NOT A DOOR.
