My half of the art trade with @kaypier! I got to do Roy mid-shift from her WIP Here Under and I’m so glad because toothy mouthy grotesque body horror stuff is my JAM. I included two versions cus I did the yellow first, then the purple and ended up really liking both uwu
After @kaypier and I talked about Petrisse and Gerel meeting in Esurience I had to draw them?? Idk how accurate I was with felic anatomy but I did my best and drew them idk talking about something? Maybe Petrisse is talking about home or her pack or something -o-
Okay, I had to think about what I wanted to talk about and I've got it: felic race distinction. So, humans categorize felic races based on size and shoulders (which is where you get the ikalu/kiju/mikiju split) and even though that's the dominant system, it's one that is both bad and wrong. actual felic races as non-vault felic categorize them are based on whether or not they have the Gods Tongue (a name that im changing because I Don't Like It, but thats what its called for now) 1/??
And the human system is bad and wrong for pretty obvious reasons. Even though Petrisse is small and has a scapula that's behind the shoulder joint and Baptiste is large and has a scapula that's on top of the shoulder joint, doesn't mean they have distinctly different social qualities or even physiological qualities outside of that. Where social and physical changes do come in is the Gods Tongue, which is a sort of like... tangible manifestation of charisma [2/??]
The Gods Tongue is passed on exlusively through consumption and feels like heat and coercive pressure and those who held it (and were able to actually use it, 'cause that's its own issue) were historically influential figures (not necessarily rulers), for good or for ill. It's its own corrupt and broken topic in felic history, but it's been relegated to annals since the Gods Tongue has become all but extinct in the underground... sorta. Humans tried to wipe it out thinking [3/4]
the Ikalu had it exclusively, having literally no idea about felic physiology. The issue isn't of it not existing in the underground, but nobody knowing how to actually use it. You see evidence of the Gods Tongue everywhere--Petrisse and Roy both have it--but it's wild and unfocused and yeah... adept possessors of the Gods Tongue can move the masses, turnover eras, cave in the earth. but it's a lonely existence. it's often a one-man social sphere because power is so alienating. [4/4!]
OH WHAT I love that!! Ahh that’s so interesting and plus I love little misconceptions and whatnot in worldbuilding because that’s the stuff that REALLY brings it to life y’know?
anyways i’ve been dying to draw Petrisse and since @kaypier posted some pics of her today I finally had!! reference!! so I did a quick ten minute thing but I hope you like it consider it a late FANbruary lol
