🥳-- Hero and Kel Siblings Fluff Headcanons

When Kel was about two years old, he had a very bad cold with a nasty cough. 5-year-old Hero was so worried about his little brother and his coughing that he crawled out of his bed in the middle of night and curled up beside Kel's crib to keep an eye on his. In the morning, their parents found him fast asleep holding Kel's tiny hand through the crib bars.

While shopping at a department store, Kel and Hero once found a pair of very expensive athletic shoes marked down on clearance. Kel wanted them very much, but they were too big for him at the time. Still, after much begging (mostly by Kel), their parents bought them with the intention that they would eventually be passed down from Hero to Kel when Hero outgrew them and Kel grew into them. Knowing how much his brother wanted those shoes and feeling bad that Kel always got his hand-me-downs, Hero rarely ever wore them. Instead, he wore his old shoes as long as he could even as they were falling apart and his feet grew too big for them. It was worth it when he finally passed them down to Kel in perfect condition.

Since Hero is very afraid of spiders, Kel has always taken care of any spiders they find in their room. Kel knows that even though spiders scare Hero, he would feel bad if Kel just started smashing them, so he always scoops them up and places them outside (often on the window sill). Even after all these years, Hero doesn't realize Kel is doing this for his benefit and thinks his brother is just very kind and sensitive to spiders.

A/N: This one's super angsty! This is another one from my Wattpad! This one is also very long so yeah! Enjoy!

- I wanna give this man a hug, he deserves it :(

- HERO immediately falls into a depression after MARI's death, to the point where he basically can't function.

- He can't get up out of bed, he can't talk, he can't eat, he can't sleep, he can't even listen properly. Everything's just messed up.

- The only time HERO decides to stand up is when he has to use the bathroom, but even then that doesn't happen very often because he hardly drinks anything. 

- HERO feels as though life's moving too fast, he blinks and then it's already the next day, at least that's what it feels like. 

- Or sometimes days were really slow, there was no in between it's always too slow or too fast. 

- It's important to keep in mind that he's quite miserable about everything, he dislikes everything that isn't sleep and even then he doesn't like sleep because he doesn't want to wake up. 

- Every time he wakes up after he's managed to fall asleep he's always a little disappointed that he's woken up, and that he'll have to deal with another day of his family nagging him...

- The only thing he consistently likes are the stories KEL tells him about his day, he knows that he doesn't really respond but he still likes to listen, especially if he's asleep, it adds to his dreams!

- HERO hates and appreciates what KEL does for him such as bringing him food when he needs it. It means something that KEL's going through the effort to do that but at the same time he just wishes KEL would leave him alone.

- Not because he dislikes KEL but because he feels guilty about not being able to do anything in return. He just doesn't have the energy. This guilt only adds on to his overwhelming guilt and HERO doesn't like it. 

- He's usually woken up by his mom who tries to get him to get up out of bed but HERO always ignores her, he's not in the mood.

- The only time HERO had left his room to not use the bathroom was once where he went into the kitchen to grab a drink.

- He regrets that day as he had made the mistake of looking out the window and seeing his brother having a panic attack in the backyard. HERO couldn't even process what was going on, why did KEL look so scared? Was he okay? HERO hadn't felt like that in a long time. He was going to go out and check on his brother when his mom came into the kitchen and made this big deal about finally seeing HERO out of bed.

- She ended up dragging him off to the living room to show his dad, who was also happy to see him up. They tried to talk to HERO but his mind kept drifting back to KEL and how he looked when he was in the backyard.

- Once they allowed HERO to go he looked out the window again but when he looked he saw KEL with his arms wrapped around HECTOR. KEL looked so empty... He looked just like HERO about an hour ago. But KEL ended up looking up and noticed HERO. A huge smile made its way onto KEL's face, though it was wobbly, like it wasn't real...

- HERO felt guilty about this afterward, he knew KEL had changed, and not in a good way. This only sent HERO further into his depression because he ended up wondering if KEL would end up like MARI. The sudden thought of MARI and losing his brother causing him to fall right back into the hole he was in, and losing any progress that he had made. 

- He also feels guilty about what had happened to MARI as he thinks it should've been his job to protect her from her thoughts. After all, that was the bare minimum, he should've been there for her, he should've! Why was he so worthless?!  

- Is what he was feeling right now what she went through? Was he really that much of a bad boyfriend that he let her go through that alone? How had he not noticed? God he was really not good at anything was he? 

- HERO's considered su*c*de before, after all why wouldn't he want to be with MARI? Without her really what is he? She was all that was good about him right? She brought out the best in him and now that she's gone all that's left is every bad thing about him. 

- He's never tried to though, he's too scared, what if he doesn't end up with MARI? Wouldn't that be even worse? Then he'll be completely alone, he doesn't want to be alone. But then again... Could anything really be any worse than this?

- One night HERO had been lying in bed, he was in a really bad depressive state that day, and even though he was everyday it just so happened to be worse that day. He had his hands on his face, covering most of it. He was so tired, so stressed, so alone. He didn't know what to do. 

- KEL opened the door and walked into the room, he had just come back home after a long day of playing basketball with his friends. He flicked on the lights, causing HERO to groan quietly. Luckily his hands were covering his face so the light hadn't bothered his eyes at all.

- HERO was quick to turn over, hiding his face into his mattress. KEL noticed but didn't question it, HERO didn't like light very much, usually because of his lack of sleep. The light always bothered his eyes.

- KEL greeted HERO but as usual wasn't met with a response. KEL got ready for bed, turning off the lights once he was done but he just sat on his bed, looking over at HERO who was huddled in his blankets. KEL was sure if MARI was here she would've found it cute.

- He was caught off guard when HERO started to mumble to himself, he couldn't understand what he was mumbling about because of the distance between them and the fact that HERO was hiding his face. 

- KEL decided to walk over, so he could try and get his brother to relax a little, as HERO's mumbling would've kept him up and he knows it.

- "So... You're up late." KEL started, but HERO could only huff in response, it was muffled thanks to him hiding his face.

- KEL chuckled and proceeded to tell HERO that "if MARI were here she'd say you're cute and then laugh at you for being a dork!"

- He didn't mean anything by it, he thought he was allowed to say something like that, but it turns out HERO wasn't in the mood, like usual but this time it was different. At the mention of MARI KEL noticed his brother tense. 

- He was about to ask what was wrong but then he heard a slight sniffle, making it impossible for him to talk to HERO. 

- HERO was quick to roll over, revealing that KEL's comment had brought him to tears, not because it was mean but because he had been missing MARI an awful lot that day. 

- KEL was quick to apologize, saying that he didn't think that would upset HERO.

- "Of course you wouldn't think that..."

- "Did you say something bro?"

- "Yeah, actually. I said of course you wouldn't think that, you never think things through, you just speak without thinking... That's what makes you annoying KEL, you just think you can say anything you want and get away with it, but you're wrong! You can't just say what you want all the time and not expect any consequences from it!"

- "I'm sorry dude... I er- I just thought I was joking around I didn't think it would annoy you... Or that I was annoying you..."

- "OF COURSE YOU DON'T THINK! THAT'S WHAT I JUST SAID KEL!"

- HERO proceeded to stand up and continued to yell at his brother. KEL fell quiet while HERO did so, having no clue of how to respond. He had never seen HERO so mad before.

- It was when HERO brought up MARI did KEL finally speak. HERO was talking about how he didn't want to even hear the name MARI, that every time he heard it his heart clenched and he just felt so... Empty. 

- KEL tried to reassure his brother that everything would be okay but HERO interrupted stating that nothing was okay or was ever going to be okay, that with MARI gone he was nothing and would never be anything. That everything that had happened was his fault.

- Of course KEL tried to tell him that none of that was true! He couldn't let HERO believe that any of that was true! But of course HERO didn't want to listen. 

- He proceeded to yell at KEL for what felt like forever. Claiming that KEL didn't get it and that he couldn't know how he felt because KEL didn't love her as much as he did. 

- The more KEL tried to deny what HERO was saying the angerier HERO got. It got so bad that HERO even punched his brother in the arm, causing KEL to stumble back and trip over himself. 

- HERO just stood there, unmoving. He stared at KEL. KEL looked up at HERO shocked, he was gripping his arm as it hurt, and he could feel tears forming in his eyes.

- When HERO realised that he had hurt his brother and had even made him cry he fell to the floor himself, just sobbing.

- Their parents ran in and immediately went over to HERO, trying to comfort him in any way they could but HERO couldn't focus on them, the only person he could think about at the moment was KEL.

- HERO was quick to finally take on his big brother role once again and ran over to KEL, embracing him. He had never hugged his brother so tightly before. There was no way for KEL to escape. 

- And even though KEL wanted to cry he didn't he just made fun of HERO.

- To anybody it would've looked like HERO finally got over MARI that night but in reality he didn't. He was still depressed about it, but he needed to make it up to KEL. KEL deserved a better brother. So he would hide his negative emotions, putting on this smile every time he was around someone. 

- HERO was very awkward around people, he didn't really know what kids his age talked about as he had isolated himself for some time. When he did try to interact with people they often found him weird as he never knew what to say.

- He also helped out A LOT. Going shopping, walking the dog, helping KEL with homework, cleaning the house, raking leaves in the backyard, you name it he's probably doing it. Everything except cooking and baking. He can't bring himself to do either, it reminds him too much of MARI.

- HERO also decided that instead of being a baker like MARI encouraged him to be he'd be a doctor like his mom wanted him to be.

- He knew that his brother didn't like the idea but this was just what HERO wanted to do now. He felt that since he couldn't help MARI he'd help somebody else and make it so no one else ended up like him to the best of his abilities!

- This is why he wants to be a psychiatrist! His mom never said what type of doctor hehehe >:)

- He was a little nervous when he was about to head off to college but he knows that his family will always be here if he needs them!

- Definitely gets a lot of letters from KEL informing him of everything that's happening in Faraway Town. 

- He can't wait to go home!

Oh my goodness I have so many songs for Hero from OMORI that it'll honestly be hard to narrow it down 😅, but I'll share a couple of my favorites plus some related Hero post-"Truth" headcanons! Thanks for playing my song + headcanon game and for the chance for some Hero appreciation (he really deserves it 💙).

I've put your songs and headcanons below the cut because of MAJOR OMORI spoilers (and warnings for the heavy themes & subject matter (i.e. grief, death, mental health issues) that go along with that).

There really are so many songs out there that remind me of Hero (who is probably tied for the title of my favorite OMORI character), and honestly, I didn't know how angsty you wanted to go with this ask so I've chosen two songs: a sad one and a less sad one.

Sad Song Choice: "Older Than I Am" by Lennon Stella

I feel like this just might be the ultimate Hero song. I mean with opening lines like "My heart's seen things I wish it didn't/Somewhere I lost some of my innocence, and I miss it" how could it not be? There's something so hauntingly tragic about this song, and I think it just fits Hero so well given how he has been through so much in his life and how he has had to grow up far too quickly. He prides himself on doing everything right, on taking care of everyone else around him and never wanting to be a burden on anyone ("I do all my own healing/Manage all of my feelings/I don't ask for help, no/'Cause I don't need it"), but sometimes it does get to be a lot for him: leaves him faking happiness and contentment while really he is breaking inside and feeling lonely and listless as he tries to keep up this charade of being "fine" ("Why am I always the one making decisions?/How do I handle the pressure?/I do my best to fake it, but honestly I hate it").

There are probably times when he wishes he "could do something stupid" and "be kinda reckless." There is probably a part of him that wishes he could "just say to hell with all [his] plans"--could "say I don't give a damn," but the problem is he does give a damn--he cares too much. He's too responsible, too dutiful, too conflict-avoidant, and too worried about hurting and burdening everyone else. Ultimately, he would never do those any of those things because just like the singer in the song, he would stop himself and be forced to admit that no matter how much he wishes he could just throw in the towel, set aside this "perfect" facade for just a minute, he won't--he can't because he's Hero and there is always that voice in the back of his head reminding him "But I'm older than I am" and stopping him.

Less Sad Song Choice: "Two" by Sleeping At Last (A/N: it’s not really that sad of a song but the Hero context makes everything sadder)

I'm not even sure where to start with this song since there are so many lines that make me think of Hero starting not least of all with the very first: "sweetheart, you look a little tired--when did you last eat?" Beyond just his penchant for cooking for his loved ones, Hero really wants nothing more than to take care of people. He has such a genuine generosity and selflessness that he truly "will love you without a single string attached" and would not hesitate to put someone else and their needs in front of his own--bending over backwards to help them or make them happy, even if it is at his own expense or to his own detriment ("you know I’ll take my heart clean apart, if it helps yours beat" and "you can take the oxygen straight out of my own chest.").

While he would be the first to offer help, support, even the shirt off his back to someone who needed it, he struggles with asking for help himself, can't stand being the center of attention, and does not like talking about himself or his own problems because he deeply fears being a burden to others ("no, I don’t want to talk about myself—tell me where it hurts."). After he begins to heal from that period of deep depression he experienced immediately following the loss of Mari, Hero consistently buries his own pain, grief, and sadness--deeply afraid of hurting or burdening his family, friends, or any of his loved ones like that again (even though, of course, the ones who love him want to be there to support him, no matter what he's going through).

He knows he's wounded and hurting, but he pushes it aside in favor of helping others. When Sunny finds him at Mari's piano in the middle of the night, for instance, Hero is "fine"—immediately jumping into trying to support and comfort Sunny, but if you go back into the room immediately afterwards, Hero is crying by himself, just unwilling and unable to express his own pain and sadness to someone else. It's absolutely that "I just want to build you up, build you up ’til you’re good as new, and maybe one day I will get around to fixing myself too" sentiment.

Finally, the line "I just want to love you, to love you, to love you well. I just want to learn how, somehow, to be loved myself" in the bridge just gives me chills when I think about in the context of Hero. He is such a big-hearted, empathetic, and sincerely loving person, but he deeply struggles to accept the love and support from others that he gives away so generously.

Here Are Some Hero Post-"The Truth" Headcanons Inspired by These Songs:

When Hero learns "The Truth," he quietly excuses himself from the room to deal with and process his emotions alone. He feels overwhelmed, hurt, upset, angry, heartbroken and so many other stormy, complicated emotions, and despite (perhaps) wishing he could unleash that whole internal turmoil, he stops himself--recalling with a painful regret that one (1) time he lashed out at Kel after Mari's death and knowing that he is not that 15 (or 16) year old boy anymore. He is an adult (albeit a 19-year-old adult but still an adult), and he will act like one, regardless of how he feels on the inside because he really is older than he is.

After crying bitterly alone and trying his best to make sense of the Truth and of everything he is feeling, Hero experiences a moment in which it really just "clicks" in his head that even if he has complex feelings about Sunny and Basil right now, Sunny and Basil are suffering in a similar way to how Hero himself suffered for years. Hero has blamed himself for what happened to Mari all this time--mentally beating himself up for not even knowing she was depressed and driving himself in painful circles wondering if he had just reached out to her, had made sure she understood she could aways open up to him, had been more of a support to her, had better expressed how much he cared about her, had held onto her tighter, had loved her better--had loved her more would things have been different? He has carried that weight around for 4 years--blaming himself for her death, and now he sees Sunny and Basil doing the same thing--granted under wildly different (more culpable despite it being an accident) circumstances but the feelings & pain of that overwhelming guilt are very similar, and Hero knows how painful and what a heavy burden that is.

In the end, it's almost like the complicated feelings he might have about Sunny and Basil due to the truth get overshadowed by Hero’s empathy and the fact that he cares for them deeply as if they were his own little brothers, and that is what finally gives him some clarity.

He returns to the room and actually apologizes himself both for suddenly disappearing and for the fact that this has all happened the way it did. He starts to tear up again as he hugs Sunny then Basil, reassuring them that Mari would want them to forgive themselves.

This is not to say that Hero doesn't still have some serious inner turmoil and angst surrounding "The Truth" and all the pain it and its cover up has caused. He does wrestle with complicated feelings towards both Basil and Sunny for some time afterwards (he is only human after all); however, this remains internal turmoil, as Hero absolutely sees it as something he needs to work through on his own with time (and hopefully, eventually, some desperately needed therapy). Additionally, having matured and learned from his one (1) fight with Kel after Mari's death, he does not take this out on Sunny or Basil--not wanting to have to repeat what is one of the greatest regrets of his life (lashing out at his brother).

Even if it takes him a little time, Hero ultimately is one of the most empathetic to Sunny and Basil's feelings surrounding Mari’s death—particularly their guilt, and it is in recognizing a lot of himself and his own grief, pain and guilt in Sunny & Basil that he finally reaches a place of healing and forgiveness with them.

Additionally, in reconciling himself to the situation and making peace with that happened, Hero ultimately blames Mari’s “bad knee”/knee injury for her death more than Sunny, choosing to believe that Sunny didn’t push her that hard so it was really the fact that her bad knee gave out that made her fall down the stairs, whereas an uninjured person wouldn’t have fallen. This inspires him to take a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency when he graduates from medical school, and he becomes a pediatric physiatrist: treating injured children and coordinating rehabilitative medicine after their injuries. He sees it as his way to give back (in a healthy way, of course) and finds a sense of purpose in trying to prevent another tragedy like that from happening by helping other injured children in their recovery.

HERO x reader who has borderline personality disorder (BPD) headcanons

hero relates to the abandonment issues part, and attachment to people. he doesn't like growing attachments easily, but he does. he won't beg to stag by your side because he doesn't want to bother you, but he doesn't mind if you do the same

he's a little confused if your mood switches up, and tries to take you somewhere to talk about what might've caused it or if you'd like to do something else. if you want him to, he can explain to people you're close to about the disorder and stuff. only if you ask him to though!!

if you engage in self-harm, he encourages you to get professional help. he'll take you out for dinner or get you gifts to reward you for sober milestones, even if they're little. he's incredibly proud of you

hero doesn't like to judge a book by it's cover, and doesn't believe in any stereotypes that people with BPD are unpredictable or violent. he's incredibly understanding, and listens carefully to anything you say.

if you're experiencing psychosis or feeling paranoid, he'll bring you to a secluded room (such as his or yours bedroom) and will sit with you in the bed, using grounding techniques and talking to you to get your mind off of everything.

he's also very observant, and will listen to you rant or talk for as long as you need. afterwards, you two probably watch something or play a game, or do any relaxing activity. it often ends up w you two fallen asleep together : )

if you're struggling with your self-image, he'll always reassure u in everything. like if u ask a question like "am i ugly??" he'll say no every time. he doesn't just want to make you feel good, but he truly believes it

overall he doesn't care at all, and is willing to take all the steps needed to have a happy relationship with you. he isn't exactly stable himself either, so don't worry about any judement!!!!!!

ok yes but also consider: trans mr. sparks? that hero that aj mentions but never shows up, lightning rod, could have actually been mr. sparks before he transitioned. and before you go 'oh but she's black' what if she just didn't have many pictures taken of her, if any at all? the vision of lightning rod that aj shows could be what he thought she might have looked like, if she was only active before he was born or when he was very young. also i think it's kinda suspicious that mr. sparks deflects the question when the sparks crew asks him about his power on the first day of school. this man does not want them knowing anything about his past hero life.

Scrooge McDuck- Scroogeopoly and not just because his face is on the cover but because he is the best at it! He is also rather fond of chess. Its a game that he learned how to play in his youth while traveling with his Uncle Pothole (who was never really any good at it). 

Donald Duck- Candy Land because he has fond memories of it. It was the go to game when the boys were little. He’ll never forget Dewey thinking the pieces were actually made of candy and trying to eat them.

Della Duck- She doesn’t really have a favorite. There are too many ones that are fun. Like Apples to Apples! One time they were playing and had to use a card to describe Scrooge. Donald had played the card “decomposing.” She had been in hysterics. Scrooge didn’t find it so funny.

Webby Vanderquack- Twister! The game where you can dislocate a shoulder trying to reach for the unobtainable color!

Louie Duck- Poker because he has a great face for it. And if money is involved he likes it all the more!

Dewey Duck- Betrayal at House on the Hill. The horror! The suspense! The betrayal! The hill! It’s all so exciting! 

Huey Duck- Dungeons and Dragons! It’s a classic after all. Too bad no one really enjoys playing it with him...

Flintheart Glomgold- Any game that he can cheat at is a great game to him. Except if he loses, then its a terrible game and should be thrown into a pit of lava.

- when the first kid comes up to him and calls him Santa he’s a little taken back but laughs it off and ruffled the kid’s hair

- the next time it happens he’s a little annoyed. 

- “(y/n) why are calling me Santa” 

- “because you look cheery and your belly jiggles when you laugh. don’t worry Taishiro it’s adorable.” 

- you always tell him it’s endearing and not an insult Santa is great.

KenjixMC Headcanons

1. As arrogant as Kenji is, he gets suPER flustered around MC because he can’t /quite/ get over that MC is actually into him… for him and not the rich playboy persona he’s created?? (See: the scene in The Grand when we first got to ~romance~ him)

2. Kenji indeed makes a killer Yakisoba. In fact, he makes a killer everything. Boy can cook! MC isn’t ~terrible~ at cooking but they are v basic with what they make and tbh they don’t enjoy it much, they prefer food cooked and ready for them to eat! And tbh Kenji loves cooking and he loves MC so dinner dates become extrenely common and MC evens it out by doing the washing up (but sometimes they get into soap fights bc they’re ridiculous nd i love them)

3. MC is a bumbling fool okay I know they come across as smooth sometimes but sometimes is the key word here. The first time they meet Meiko as Kenji’s official partner, they trip over their own laces and fall flat on their face. Meiko is Unimpressed. But MC is so endearing she can’t help but come around eventually. Still, it takes her a while to stop thinking that Kenji needs someone for refined or wharever but then she sees that Kenji is actually really happy with this person and who is she to tell him he is wrong?

4. MC’s mum loves Kenji and is always trying to invite him around for dinner, with or without MC (MC is slightly pertubed by how well their mum and Kenji get along). Their mum shows Kenji photos and videos from when MC was growing up and is embarassed.

5. They work out together to the soundtrack of superhero movies bc it makes them feel awesome. Their work-outs may or may not end slightly differently to how they began (seriously, Kenji starts considering getting a bed down in his gym😂)

6. Also they’re surprisingly low-key like sure they go to clubs and stuff but mostly they just hang around at each others flats watching movies, eating home cooked meals and cuddling.

7. They are super affectionate with words of affection ( which MC thrives from bc they never admit it but sometimes they get super insecure about stuff) and their constant need to be touching MC (from slinging an arm over his shoulder to linked hands to MC doodling ‘I love you’ on Kenji’s back when they think he is asleep). There are also small things like MC noticing Kenji’s looking a bit down (he won’t say anything but MC knows) so he silently makes a nice cup of tea, just the way Kenj likes it, and grabs those biscuits from the cupboard that he only even bought because he’d seen how much Kenj loved them, and cuddles up beside him to put on one of their favourite movies. And Kenji just smiles and relaxes into the embrace because he doesn’t want to talk about it just yet and MC is just trying to make him feel better.
