Warnings: Contains a description of some injuries (Head and torso) but I think that’s all.
Villain sighed as they punched in the code Other Villain had told them and opened the door. Really, why did they get involved in this mess? It was none of their business, they should have just kept well away from this. But something in Hero’s face, they way they had begged without hesitation, pleading for help, willing to do anything… they hadn’t been able to refuse. Besides, they were being paid well for it.
But still, it had been the most difficult prisoner exchange they’d ever heard of.
With Hero and Other Villain being so wary of each other, it hadn’t been easy to get them to come to an agreement. But with Villain’s impatience, things soon got done. Hero and Other Villain had taken their prisoners to unguarded areas. Villain had collected Henchman and put them in their own hidden location. Now they just had to get Hero’s Sidekick. They weren’t looking forward to it.
They opened another door to their left, happy to find it unguarded as agreed. The room was dark, so Villain grumbled and took out their torch and shone it ahead of them.
They almost dropped the torch.
Other Villain had insisted Hero’s Sidekick wasn’t harmed. They’d lied. Villain found them bound and gagged, blood dripped down their face from a head wound and their eyes were unseeing. Villain could only guess they were suffering from a heavy fever.
Villain knelt down in front of them, noting how they tried to flinch away, to get as far away from them as they could.
“[Sidekick]? It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m going to take you somewhere safe.”
Sidekick’s eyes grew wide and Villain hushed them as they carefully took the soaked gag out of their mouth.
“N.not you too, please...” Sidekick whimpered.
“Relax, you’re fine,” Villain assured them. They took out a knife to cut the ropes and Sidekick shrieked, trying to hide their face. Villain put a hand on their forehead despite how it scared the injured hero. They were burning up, badly.
“[V.Villain], please...” Sidekick pleaded.
Villain didn’t have the time to sit and earn their trust. They’d hurt them in the past. Sidekick wasn’t going to just trust them.
They cut the rope that was keeping their hands tied above their head. Perhaps a mistake. Sidekick instantly stuck them in the face and cried out. Villain dropped the knife and stumbled back.
“Fuck,” they hissed, wiping their bloody lip.
Sidekick grabbed the knife and frantically started cutting at the roped that bound them. Villain gritted their teeth.
“You need to calm down, I’m here to take you to [Hero]-”
“Y.you have [Hero]?!” Sidekick exclaimed, but it was very clear they did not have the energy for this. They were trying to force themselves.
“What? No, they sent me- Ah, to hell with this.”
Villain approached Sidekick again, knowing they had to get that knife of of them before they hurt themselves. Sidekick had cut the last rope restraining them with a panicked rush about them. They were scared, weak, and cornered. When Villain shone the light back at them, they also saw a deep red stain on their torso. They were wounded, long before Villain had gotten here.
“[Sidekick], I need you to give me that back. Don’t make me force you. I’m not going to hurt you,” Villain tried.
Sidekick pointed the knife at them with a shaking hand and crawled back, their other hand clutched their side.
“I’m trying to help you,” Villain added softly.
But Sidekick was sick, too sick to understand, to communicate with logic. They were doing what they could to survive, and their instinct told them Villain was a danger. No honey coated words were going to fix that.
Villain picked up a longer piece of rope from the floor and moved forward quickly, coming from the side so Sidekick could only swing the blade in one direction, so Villain knew what was coming. It meant they were able to catch Sidekick’s arm and disarm them with ease. Sidekick yelped and tried to lash out with their other hand, but Villain caught that as well as pushed them down onto their back. They straddled them, but they didn’t actually sit down, they didn’t want to hurt their injury.
“That’s enough,” Villain said softly. They took the opportunity to tie their hands together in front of them, which was far more comfortable than how they’d been tied before.
“Please, I can’t,” Sidekick sobbed. “N.no more.”
Villain hushed them and turned their head to inspect the head wound. They winced at the sight and the stomach wound was no better. They were going to need a medic.
For now Villain could only pick them up and carry them to safety. It hurt, much to their surprise, to hear them whimpering and pleading with raspy breaths. They were so weak, in so much pain, and so scared. Still they pressed their face into Villain’s chest, clinging to the few moments of comfort they could get.
“It’s going to be alright,” Villain promised.
Villain called Hero as they drove back to their base.
“Did you find them?” Hero asked quickly.
“Yes, I’ve got them, but [Other Villain] lied. They’re hurt, sick as a dog and really need a medic. I’m not taking them to where we first planned, they need to come with me and get these treated immediately. I’ll text you the address.”
“Scum,” Hero spat. “[Other Villain] swore!”
“I’ll deal with that. I warned them what would happen, so I’ll be paying [Henchman] a visit before [Other Villain] finds them.”
They heard Hero gulp. “You don’t have to do that for me-”
“It’s not for you,” Villain shrugged. “I’m not letting that lying snake think they can fuck around with me.”
Hero sighed. They knew there was going to be no stopping Villain once their mind was made up.
“How… how did they react to seeing you?”
“What we expected,” Villain answered flatly. “Had to tie them back up and carry them out.” Once I’ve got them inside, I’ll text you, alright. I’ve got you on loudspeaker at the moment.
Villain’s ears pricked up hearing groaning from the back.
“Take it easy back there,” Villain called. They turned their attention back to Hero. “Look, this shit is almost finished and done with. I just need you to wait a few hours more, alright?”
“I might regret it but… I trust you. Just look after them, please,” Hero pleaded.
Villain turned the van into one of their smaller bases. “I will.”
Why did they ever get themselves into this mess?
