It’s not everyone, but those of us who don’t like Kent bc of (some of) his fans exist. I’m mostly Kent-neutral, but much of the distaste I do have for him does actually stem from Kent fans. I hate how so many pro-Kent ppl treat Jack as evil. Somewhere between seeing complaints that his coming out was selfish, calling him abusive trash, and breaking him and Bitty up I decided I’d rather not see ANY of Kent than see more of what Kent fans had to say. It makes it easier to avoid what I don’t want.

Yeah, those are all things that bother me too, honestly. Saying that Jack had some special obligation to come out in a certain way, that Jack is a uniquely bad dude, or getting glee out of breaking up Zimbits*. I really don’t like seeing them either, and backbutton out of fics that have them and mute channels where they’re being discussed, if I don’t feel like arguing back that day.

OMGCP is a humourous comic with lots of butt jokes and silliness. I just don’t get any sort of satisfaction out of being upset that it’s not deep and thoughtful. It’s about Jack and Bitty, not about Kent. So while obviously like, some of the people in that salt mine are my friends, I like them and want them to do what makes them happy, and I think everyone has the right to fan how they want... I just really do not click with how they’re going about it, I disagree with some of the logical paths they’ve taken to get there, and don’t want to have to deal with too much of it in my day.

I really can’t disagree with you on those basic things.

*I’ve enjoyed Bittyparse fics where Jack and Bitty have broken up, and even some where Jack is not portrayed in the most sympathetic of lights (I’m thinking Can’t Learn to Leave) but “Jack is a nuanced non-evil person and he and Bitty didn’t work out in the end, which is tragic but that’s life and Bitty moves on” is a different take than "Jack is awful, let’s wrench his boyfriend away from him and set him up with Kent, who will make Bitty happy as Jack never could”.

Can someone please explain the concept of hatesex to me? Like, why? What is the appeal? (I may just be too ace to get it, idk)

I thought about it and thought about it and I can’t do it either. (NSFW discussion to follow)

Sometimes other people write hatesex and I can go with it, because it is like, really intense emotion, and I guess for me the appeal is like... the dream of being found desirable and worthwhile even when I’m not putting work in to manage someone else’s emotions, being able to step back from being anxious and hoping they like me, being able to be really angry and totally own that anger, and throw it at someone, and to have them respond with just as much confidence and assertiveness, and it somehow going... really well? And being really pleasurable?

But when I’m the one writing, I can’t do it. I tried imagining scenarios and just... if you hate someone that much, why would you do something that nice to/for them??? (And like most hatesex includes details like “angrily kissing someone’s earlobe” which is like, if you care about their experience here, “hate” doesn’t feel like the right emotion) I just can’t put myself in that headspace. Maybe I’m too ace too; sexual attraction is really rare for me, and when it shows up I’m not prone to denying it or disliking the people who inspire it.

(Also, Bitty is like the most conflict-avoidant person EVAR, so.... I have a hard time imagining him staying in the room.)

I can do established relationship angry sex, because sometimes even when you love each other and even when you know you’ll work it out, you can still be angry in the middle of it, and that emotion won’t always go away immediately. So the sex can happen in the middle of that, or the sex can be a mechanism of working through that anger and finding the other side. But angry sex and hatesex are different things.

5. If you were a type of tree, what would you be?  

  * My favorite kind of tree is a weeping willow, but I’m not sure that fits my personality. I think I might be some species of pine, one of the ones that are kind of fat and shaggy.

8. What do you label yourself as?

   * This is such a complex question! My first instinct is to label myself as a cis, biromantic asexual woman. But as I consider the question more, there’s so many other things I label myself as. Student, Swattie, Potterhead, Mom Friend(tm), cat lover, introvert, linguist... I could go on. It’s so interesting to think about all the things we consider ourselves to be, and which aspects of our lives we first think to offer up when asked that question.

26. You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world, but you have to leave immediately. Where are you going to go?

    * I want to go back to Ireland so badly. I loved it there and I miss it so much. I just want to lay in a field and sink into the green grass and get nibbled on by a sheep. Take me back.

39. What type of music do you like?

     * There’s actually very few types of music I don’t like, to be honest. Showtunes are what I listen to the most, but I also really like indie music. The Decemberists are my current favorite. I also like alternative, pop punk, 60s pop... music is just so good.

49. If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature, what new animal would you create?

    * Cat with a human face. This is a really difficult question. If I were trying to create something like the ideal pet, I might mix a cat with a fox (the ideal product of this union would basically be a fox with the temperment of a domesticated cat and hopefully a cat’s meow). That feels really boring and basic though.      Now, if I was mixing any two animals together just for the fun of it? Imagine a blue whale sized squirrel that could live on both land and sea. Imagine an elephant mixed with a giraffe, a super long neck AND a trunk. A platypus mixed with a hammerhead shark. An alligator crossed with a bat - it can fly and echolocate. The possibilities are endless.

On the other hand, cheap and available books are better than high priced books in a fancy elitist store.

Not when the inexpensiveness of the books derives from the exploitation of tens if not hundreds of thousands of workers. 

Also IDK if you’ve been in an independent bookstore lately (probably not because three large corporations destroyed them for like two decades and they are just now coming back now that one of those killed the other two) but “fancy” and “elitist” is not what I would use to describe them like...ever.

Yeah, I’m sure the Tom Hanks character bought that yacht in the movie with the money from his Nobel Peace Prize winnings and not the incredible amounts of cash he earned from undercutting small businesses in order to monopolize an area’s market share, underpaying workers, exploiting tax loopholes, and artificially marking up his books so he could constantly be advertising sales that undersell his competition by small percentage points. 

Unrelatedly I hear Jeff Bezos is kickstarting the purchase of his next private jet, the poor broke baby.

Oh! A day at the beach with Bitty and Jack, please! Future or not, and other characters are welcome too :)

This is a fic set where Jack and Bitty have twin girls. You can find the first one I did with Jack and Bitty and their twins here. 

Jack had been lounging on his chair under the beach umbrella and had just closed his eyes, knowing Bitty would keep an eye on the girls when he felt a small hand on his knee.

“Papa?”

Opening one eye, Jack found his daughter waiting in her bottom lip between her teeth, big blue eyes watching him intently.

Leaning forward, Jack pulled her lip out of her mouth and cupped her cheek. “Everything okay, Suzy-Q?”

“Can I sit with you?”

“All done swimming?” Tears appeared in Susie’s eyes and Jack scooped her up and onto his lap. “Hey now, it’s okay. What’s wrong, mon ange?”

Susie cried harder and tried to talk. “I. Don’t” Susie hid her face in her papa’s chest and cried a little harder. “Like it.”

Jack held his daughter close to his chest and rubbed her back. “That’s okay, Susie. You can stay here with me. How about we build a sand castle? How’s that sound?”

Susie’s sobs started to die down, but she continued to cling to Jack. “Oh..oh..okay, papa.”

When Susie didn’t start climbing down, Jack smiled and kissed the top of her head. He got a taste of salt and had a feeling about what had sent her running to him. “Do you wanna stay in my lap a little longer?”

Nodding into her papa’s neck, Susie wrapped her arms around Jack’s neck and went quiet. Jack continued to rub her back and whisper quietly to her, knowing it wouldn’t be long until she calmed down and was ready to play.

As they sat, Jack looked out toward the water where Bitty was standing in the waves with Ali. Bitty was laughing every time Ali squealed and reached down to try and catch the water when it reached them. Susie may be the spitting image of her daddy with her golden curls and easy smile, but her personality was much more Jack. Quiet and intense, she was always focused on whatever project entered her creative mind. Jack had worried for her at first until Bitty had kissed him and promised they’d make sure to show her that it was okay to relax and make mistakes.

“Papa?”

Susie’s voice brought Jack out of his thoughts and he smiled down at her. “Yes?”

“Can we make our sand castle now?”

Jack let Susie climb down and reached for their bag of beach toys. “We sure can. We’ve got to go get some water so our castle stays together. Are you going to be okay, or should I ask Daddy and Ali to bring it?”

Susie studied Jack with a serious look. “Will you carry me?”

Jack laughed. “Yes, I will carry you.”

“Okay.”

Grabbing Susie and a bucket, Jack carried her down to the water and waded in toward Bitty. Susie clutched at him until they got close to Bitty and then finally relaxed a little.

“Daddy!”

Bitty beamed and leaned over to kiss her cheek. “Susie-Q! You found papa!”

“I did! He let me sit in his lap!”

Bitty leaned up for a kiss from his husband. “Did he now? Did he help you feel better too?”

Susie nodded. “We’re gonna make a sand castle!”

“Oh my goodness! Better make it nice and big so me and Ali can see.”

“We will, daddy!”

Jack filled their bucket with water and bent down to kiss Bitty again. He also used the moment to ask, “What happened?”

Bitty sighed. “Big wave, Susie got water in her eyes.”

Jack winced. “Well, I’ve got her and Ali seems to be having the time of her life in the water with you. Just remember to come reapply sunscreen soon, okay? You’re both starting to look a little pink.”

Bitty playfully rolled his eyes. “We’ll be up shortly. We’re also quickly approaching snack time.”

When neither girl noticed Bitty’s words, both Bitty and Jack relaxed a little. Both their girls loved snack time and if either Jack or Bitty made mention of it, they would be demand their snacks then and there.

“Good.” Turning his head to talk to Susie again, Jack held up their full bucket. “Ready to build, mon ange?”

Susie clapped. “Yes, papa, yes! We’re gonna make the biggest castle ever!”
