today at dnd:
- baby’s first rez ritual! I accidentally killed off a player character during the dragon fight last time so we brought him back. the dc was 8 after all the contributions and I rolled a nat 20 so he was SUPER alive again.
- pvp! actually sparring is a pretty good mechanic for testing out new abilities on level up tbh they went like eight rounds without hitting each other and then the paladin knocked out the wizard with like two hits
- regular gnoll regular gnoll! I did not expect the party to do this sidequest before arriving in town so I had to make it up on the spot! It was a little harder than I meant it to be since I hadn’t had a chance to actually tally up the combat difficulty but it was fine and they murdered all the gnolls. it actually wound up being a pretty good encounter since it was difficult enough to really take some doing but not really deadly. and they saved a kid so. (original hw folks: there was a gnoll sidequest in lyterr for you too but you just totally fucking skipped it)
- familiar faces! I set up this lyterr arc the same way I did for the original campaign (ie the group sent after this creature has disappeared and the party has to go find them) and I thought ‘hmm I need some adventurers to have gone missing’ and then I thought ‘hmm I know about five adventurers who’ve been to this town before’ so congrats previous hw crew your characters are canon in my new campaign except they’re sort of dead so sorry about that.
