oh dang you're listening to the magnus archives??? do you have a favorite so far?

Yeah! I usually have a tough time focusing when listening to podcasts but a number of the stories have left me totally rapt lol it’s so good. Are you asking favorite character or favorite ep? If character: Favorite non-speaking character is Gerard by a landslide--I actually vibrate whenever an account references him lmao, even though that’s like what...10 out of 140 episodes? As far as the regular speaking cast go....Jon probably? Which is pretty predictable i guess but Ive been really enjoying his growth as a character and a force within the world of the story as a whole. I also like Peter Lucas a lot, though he is supremely punchable.

If favorite ep, i can’t remember any of their names, but the ones that left the biggest impression on me were: the one with the cave-diving sisters, the messageboard story, the virus video story, Jon’s spider story, the story about hiding under the blanket (predicted the end of that one and it still gave me chills and had me staring into the darkness of my room for a good hour before going to bed that night ha) and literally any of the stories involving Simon Fairchild, that dude makes me sit up stalk fucking straight haha. Notthem stories are also real good. And stories involving Gerard or Leitners are *chef’s kiss*. And the finale of season 1! Maybe like 80% of all episodes are my favorite episode, i dunno, who’s keeping score

I think its tough to write lots of scary stories and make them actually be...scary...but while i haven’t engaged with/enjoyed every story or character, there’s definitely way more in there than I would’ve thought reasonable for a show with that many episodes. Its also super impressive that certain recurring elements, like the Leitners, manage to be scary in new ways every time they appear, even though you know what’s coming any time one of them shows up. It’s good ya’ll. I’m glad i got into it as they’re coming off a hiatus rather than starting on one

as someone who just got recommended your last art and hasn't been following, what's the reverse au? sounds interesting and the art is great!

The reverse au started as speculating on what sort of people the Shimada bros would be in a world where their fight ended with Hanzo losing and Genji winning--and after people suggested other ideas for reverse characters, it ended up trickling into the rest of the overwatch roster, and the idea started changing and developing from there. Think of it more like a ‘what if’ au than anything--’what if genji won and hanzo lost’ ‘what if mccree managed to escape before getting recruited by overwatch’ ‘what if gabriel was given strike commander over jack’ etc etc. It’s more that certain outcomes are reversed, rather than the characters themselves. To keep the world approximate, there are certain universal constants (such as overwatch’s collapse) but other stuff is dependent on the characters. (Most of my ‘speculating’ still revolves around the Shimada bros and their relationships tho haha)

How'd you make you cyborg Hanzo so unique looking? I adore his design and kind of wanted to use it for my blog but considered he's strictly YOUR Hanzo/a part of this world you came up with instead of just a cyborg!Hanzo I felt it would be rude/inappropriate.

It still kind of surprises (and flatters) me that people like his design so much! I’m not terribly partial to it myself but it is what it is--I wrote a fairly exhaustive explanation of my choices some time ago.

Anyway! I greatly appreciate your courtesy. I tend to be pretty lax about these sorts of things, so if you’d like to adopt his design, feel free. Referencing that I was the point of origin would be greatly appreciated, but that’s really the only stipulation I have.

I notice Mr. Shimada is wearing an engagement ring in your most recent comic, and I also notice that every day now is a day you're depriving us of a proposal comic. This is a dire thirst, and there is only one cure.

Oh man, I was neither sure which comic this was referring to (no one’s wearing rings in the most recent comic I drew) or which Shimada it was referring (Genji? Hanzo? Their reverse versions?). But I noticed my ‘2 trendy boys’ post got an uptick of notes today so I’m assuming that’s the post you’re referring to? I drew Hanzo wearing a ring--but the ring is on the middle finger of his right hand, and not the ring finger of his left hand (which is what would connote it as a wedding ring haha). Which is to say, he’s just wearing ‘cause he’s a fancy trendsetter--i’m afraid, in those drawings at least, he’s still single and ready to mingle
