Physical Therapy Education: HESAV And Northeastern Meet

swissnex Boston recently welcomed approximately 20 physical therapy students from the Haute École de Santé Vaud (HESAV) in Lausanne together with peers from Northeastern University (NEU) for an informal talk about the differences between the Swiss and the US higher education systems, mainly with regards to physical therapy. Since four years, HESAV has had a mutual exchange program with Northeastern. Unlike in the US, in Switzerland, people interested in practicing physical therapy pursue mainly a Bachelor’s degree, with only some pursuing a Master’s degree. In the US, in order to work as a physical therapist, people must earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. It was interesting to see how different the two educational systems are, and how beneficial an exchange between the two countries can be, not only for students, but also for faculty to recognize the differences between the educational systems.
