Gif tutorial - Stabilize a shaky gif

A couple of weeks ago I promised I'd write a tutorial on how I stabilize a gif when there's camera shaking going on in the source material, and it's finally here!

can you tell me more about the long haired Chinese guy third down, second from the right on your "not normal about him" board? I feel like I've seen him around tumblr but idk anything about him except that I think the show he's in has some kind of supernatural element in it.

That's Lan Xichen!

So, The Untamed is really good - the MC, Wei Wuxian, is this ADHD bitchy nightmare who ends up getting resurrected some time after he is (rightfully) killed for doing a bunch of awful necromantic crimes that fuck up the world. He has a complex dynamic going on with his lover, Lan Wangji, who is an extremely flat affect and repressed and stern man - in the books they do a lot of rape roleplay and LWJ canonically has a huge dick that hurts deliciously when he fucks WWX, and in the TV show he mostly sort of stares intently at WWX with his big wet eyes.

Their dynamic is the main one in The Untamed, and the both of them are cultivators, trained magic-users who study together and then work together with a big focus on magical balance - ensuring magical cycles are functioning as they should, that there aren't demons and nasty spirits hurting people or running amok, et cetera.

WWX is adopted into a family, and his dynamic with others and with his education is heavily impacted by all the politics with his adopted brother and sister and their parents; LWJ comes from a clan that is EXTREMELY highly regarded as cultivators.

They all wear white and have those headbands, and they are widely renowned as being extremely noble and dedicated to their craft, with their family having numerous precepts that they're all very stern about, many of which have to do with magic, but others are to do with their personal conduct - drinking, cursing, sex, how they dress, everything you might think of.

Lan Xichen, the guy I'm not normal about, is Lan Wangji's older brother and the leader of the family, and he has the weight of the fucking WORLD on his shoulders, even if his insane little brother wasn't doing CNC play with the world's most renowned war criminal.

And he is so graceful about it.

He has hundreds if not thousands of people relying on him, he is held to the same rigorous standards, he has to be EXTREMELY careful about both his public and private personas, and yet he is so incredibly kind, he is so thoughtful, he is so deeply caring and empathetic, and it fucks him up!

LXC has a beautiful fucked-up dynamic with my other favourite war criminal, Meng Yao / Jin Guangyao (he gets a new name), who is this incredibly manipulative incredibly traumatised and poorly treated BEAUTY of a dimpled darling, and it's very much like, incredibly repressed self-loathing murderer for quietly repressed and softly smiling gentleman vibe going, and it's wonderful.

I'm also insane about JGY, don't get me wrong, but it's really easy to be insane about JGY - LXC is one of those characters who can very easily be mistaken for somebody well-adjusted and doing alright, but actually is in many ways more insane than all of the clowns rotating around him.

What did you think of Mickey 17? I saw it earlier this week and really liked it but found it lacking in something and I'm not sure what.

i really enjoyed it! it is very much in bong joon-ho's style which isn't always for everyone. personally of his movies, i prefer his memories of murder's and parasite's compared to his mickey 17's and snowpiercer's if you get me. but i appreciate what he's always trying to do—okja, snowpiercer, mickey 17, etc, none of these are SUBTLE movies, right? like he is full on hitting you over the head with the lessons he wants you to learn, with the parallels he's trying to draw to current society, to the metaphors he's depicting, etc. but i like that. sometimes we need a new parable. plus, i just love that his movies are always, always, always original! he's not out there regurgitating the same half baked sequels or franchise ideas. it's always new and he's always taking big swings and encouraging his actors to do the same.

while i was watching mickey 17 i was enjoying it but the thing that ended up making such an impression was the reveal of the breadth of nasha's love for mickey. ALL mickey's. for the first, oh, 2/3s of the movie they were fun and i was enjoying how ready she was to hop into a threesome with him and mickey 18, but when mickey 17 started talking about how nasha always stood up for him and it flashed back to that scene in the lab? i was so ready to see her start another fight—that's something the movie had v clearly set up as one of her strengths. but to instead take that expectation and twist it on its head—to instead show nasha choosing tenderness and love rather than aggression? to show her just wanting to be with him? THAT got to me and really elevated the whole movie in my regard. i definitely want to rewatch the movie with that understanding of nasha and their relationship from the start.

I went to the movies this afternoon and I saw in a trailer that your man Shawn Hatosy is going to be in a "the most dangerous game" kinda movie playing a rich guy hunting people for sport. It looked bad but he was kinda hot in the trailer

Was the Furiosa movie good?

very!! i think it's a perfect companion piece for fury road and there's some great casting throughout the film. tom burke is phenomenal in his role, and anya taylor-joy really captures a younger furiosa, AND it's another film to add to the roster that reminds me that hemsworth is a talented actor when he's allowed to play weird guys. i really think hemsworth thrives when he gets to play a villain or a supporting character in a way that he just isn't capable of when confined to the roles of bland attractive lead hero.

furiosa is more of an epic in terms of story telling—spanning years and decades, compared to fury road covering like. a very intense 24 hours. and there's some things that i think get explained that i wish they'd left alone, things that made the world feel bigger and more interesting when they just got name dropped in fury road with no explanation. but it's original storytelling in the best way and really reminds me of why i love the movies and why i want more like it.

i hope miller gets to make the other mad max film he was talking about—furiosa hasn't done as well box office-wise as fury road did (sad!!) so it's a little up in the air whether he'll get to make mad max: the wasteland. i'll keep my fingers crossed because you never know!

2. What movie have you watched most recently? What did you think of it?

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. Greatest movie I've ever seen. 10 four year olds smashing random toys together out of 10.

7. What's your favorite way to travel? Is there a mode of travel you haven't done that you want to experience?

My favorite is boat (big surprise). I haven't been on a plane and maaaaybe one day I'll try it.
