A few people have noticed my käärijä earrings by now, and it is become a fun little sideway into me info dumping about Jere. I haven’t yet met any that questions why a 29-year-old would want to wear little earrings of himself or why I – a 28-year-old – then follows in his footsteps. Only my roommate has commented on it more in detail when she jokingly called me a nerd. Once again, it’s nice being somewhere where something as pointlessly gendered as big earrings aren’t seen as feminine.

I cannot get over how much of Supernatural can be brought inherently back to the perils of heteronormality. We have no clue what the influences of Heaven had over John and Mary’s choices regarding one another. The entire existence of Sam and Dean hinge on this. The way their lives are shaped, the cycles that exist in that itself, the way John responds to trauma. Heteronormality is the erasure of the free will, and escaping it is inherently liberating.

I hadn’t expected to be met by genuine enthusiasm when I suggested putting nail polish on this one guy’s hands. Something so small made his day because outside of summer camp, he hadn’t dared just thinking about wearing it. Everything is so pointlessly gendered that this kind and sensitive guy feared what people might do if he had green nails. But in this moment, he didn’t care. I find this to be great example of the importance of safe spaces when you experiment with your gender expression.
