Hevia - Busindre Reel
Mori Girl Challenge: Day 11
Name 5 of your favourite Mori style songs or musicians, even if they're not explicitly "Mori"
I’m fond of many music genres, including the ones that would especifically go with the Mori Kei aesthetic - such as folk, world music, or ambient. For this especific style, here you have the 5 songs/musicians that go with Mori the best:
1. While I honestly prefer the original version by John Lennon, Nana Mouskouri’s cover of the song Imagine is also very pleasant to listen to, and it fits the Mori style perfectly with its chilled, melodic tune.

2. Next it’s a strongly nostalgic song despite of its simplicity by a famous world music band from my neighbouring country - Portugal: Madredeus. It’s called O Pastor, and it’s widely considered one of it’s greatest hits - no wonder, as it’s strongly poetic, melodious, and passionate. Gotta love Teresa Salgueiro’s voice!

3. Although it’s very difficult to associate Vangelis with Mori Kei, some of his songs may be easily framed into the style, such as La Petite Fille de la Mer, with its soft, relaxing melody that reminds of a music box playing on the foreground and a guitar melody on the background - an allegory of childhood innocence.

4. Another band that could go well into Mori Kei is this Icelandic indie band called Sigur Rós; particularly its theme Hoppipolla, which is probably its most famous song. It is also known for its videoclip, showing elderly people behaving like young children.

5. Last - but certaintly not least - we’ve got Hevia, an Asturian bagpipes player, academicist, songwriter, and composer. All of his songs and albums can be considered Mori, including his latest album, which came out last year, yet I’d rather go for the song that made me admire him during my childhood - Busindre Reel, his most well-known tune to this day.

"Tierra de Hevia" / Hevia
Year: 2005
Country: 🇪🇸 (Spain)
Genre: Folk / Electronic
Between electric bagpipes, percussion that breathes forest, and melodies that seem to come from the Atlantic itself, Hevia raises his sound map in "Tierra de Hieva." This album is less a continuation of his debut and more an expansion into the ancestral: an attempt to reconnect Asturian roots with the universal pulse of Celtic, electronic, and popular music. "Tierra de Hevia" feels like a journey that begins with the damp sound of freshly plowed earth and ends with the metallic echo of a distant mountain. The bagpipes, his signature instrument, blend with synthesizers and global rhythms without losing their rural soul. There is an earthy, almost pagan spirituality that runs through each track: a celebration of what grows, what returns, what endures despite the passage of time.
Fave song ⭐: "Busindree Reel (Clubbie Extended Mix)"
