As sudden as they realized, creaking and shattering the dusted silence with a shout risen from decay, was the living of death, reanimation to spit on Arkay incarnate, evil in waiting,

the final Dragon Priest, Hevnoraak.

Hevnoraak is fought in Valthume, and defeating him is the goal of the quest Evil in Waiting. He's a shock-based mage, wielding a unique staff- simply called Hevnoraak's Staff- that casts Wall of Storms. His name means "brutal" in Dovahzul.

Konahrik is a... unique case. A mysterious one. It means "Warlord" in Dovahzul. The mask can only be acquired once you have all the other (base game) masks, with no apparent Dragon Priest- but, when you're low on health, it summons a Spectral Dragon Priest to assist you. Is Konahrik a title? A now-deceased Dragon Priest looking for a successor? You, by the happenstance that it is you who has the mask? You, as in meant for you specifically? Is the Spectral Dragon Priest it summons it a previous wearer, or only a summoned creature? Who knows! It nearly wasn't included in the tournament- this is about the Dragon Priests, after all, not the masks, and there might not be a Dragon Priest named Konahrik. But there might be! So, for the sake of the tournament, the Spectral Dragon Priest and Konahrik are counted as one and the same. Let's see how they do; people do so love a mystery...

A lot about the Reachmen, religion, and love. my rec: if I could, I would rec each and every single one of this author’s works, be they pieces of writing or (beautiful) art, because I truly enjoy how much thought has been put into the sorely neglected dragon priests! though fairly straightforward enemies in-game, Pines fleshes them out into actual characters so well, especially here in a dark yet atmospheric exploration of the inner turmoil of Dibella-worshipping Hevnoraak before he was given the name Hevnoraak.
