My brain has decided to hyperfixate on the Hexgems and I need help!
I am trying to keep track of how many there are and where they went, but some scene cuts are making it hard to follow and split off into assumptions.
I can't even tell which one is which or when others were made, so this is a lot of just rambling and speculation, but if anyone has any theories or more concrete evidence/ better memories, please feel free to discuss!
Here we go:
There were originally 3 gems?
Maybe 4, but why make a fancy box to hold 3 unless there were only 3? One could have already been in Viktor's claw though but we dont see anything during the scene change.
Also, Jayce/Viktor still have a confirmed 8 unrefined crystals (if that becomes relevant?)
They took at least 1 to the airship for the Progress Day announcement.
And Jinx stole 1 and some of their research papers at the same time.
No idea where the 3rd one is, but let's assume with Viktor.

2 others were used in Vi’s gauntlets
1 in Jayce’s hammer.
Maybe 1 in Viktor’s Hexcore, but can't confirm?
Jinx has Vi's gauntlets and the stolen Hexgem in the S1 finale.
Assuming the one in Fishbones wasn't destroyed, and she didn't take Vi's offscreen, Vi probably got them back, so that's where those 3 are by the end of S1 (plus the 1 confirmed in Jayce's hammer). So, that is at LEAST a count of 4.
Then in Season 2, (and assuming the other members of the strike force had normal weapons):
Jayce Hammer still has 1
Caitlyn’s rifle gets 1
Vi’s gauntlets gets (or still has) the 2
And Jinx re-modded her pistol with 1 when she and Sevika broke everyone out of Stillwater.
Vi’s and Jinx’s 3 were later taken by Isha and used to stop Warwick and the Noxians in the commune.
I think someone somewhere mentioned these 3 gems were totally obliterated in the blast, but I can't confirm? If not, they were probably confiscated by Caitlyn and 2 of them were returned to Vi's gauntlets.
After all is said and done, Jinx still has 1 in the monkey bomb she tried to use before Ekko saved her with his Z-Drive
(which is powered through another dimension's Hex technology I think, so we're going to ignore that one).
No idea where the one in the bomb came from. Either Jinx got the one from her gun back, made her own, or had a spare if we go back in time and humor the theories she took one or both of Vi's in S1?
Vi got 2 (possibly new ones?) in her 3rd set (or appearance) of gauntlets.
1 fell with Jinx and Warwick into the cavern and we don't see where it goes.
1 remained with Vi in the other gauntlet up on the ledge.
Jinx used the 1 in her monkey bomb on herself and Warwick.
Ambessa discarded the 1 in Caitlyn's rifle
(I think? We don't really see it again. Can assume she got it back.)
And then the 1 from Jayce's hammer was (probably) taken by Swain.
So, that's what I've got. It really sounds like there are probably only 4 floating around, (with maybe a 5th one made for Caitlyn) depending on which theories you want to follow.
If Viktor had some stashed away or they made more than one of the three count boxsets, it's throwing me for a loop.
Again, if anyone has any ideas or wants to collaborate either reblog or comment and help my poor sleep-deprived brain figure this out. I just got bit by the red yarn bug and combed through the series looking for answers.
That little tidbit Arcane gives us at the end of episode 7 where AU Powder has a full pouch of the Hextech crystals (arcane crystals really) just sitting in a drawer and that she puts fragmented piece spin-y thing Ekko gives her in there with them is probably going to itch at my brain forevermore
Why does she have all of them still? Doesn't she know how dangerous they are since one killed her sister? Why not give one to Ekko when it became clear that they were related to the project he suddenly started working on? How does she even have them? Why didn't Topside confiscate them after the fact? What happened to Jayce that would make it so no one found out about those ones? (I assume he was like seriously arrested and charged for his experiments considering someone died as a result of them, even though the person who died was there to steal stuff, but is that actually the case? Does Viktor exist in that universe?)
Really the questions just kind of spring forth and we are unlikely to get any answers, and really the whole AU opens an enormous number of questions as a whole that I desperately want to know the answers to
Even so, for whatever reason, it's that very last little bit of the episode that will likely haunt me
I think this is just a mistake and nothing more, but the amount of crystals we see in Act I changes and for no reason within the show.
At the start of the series, there are 7 crystals.
- 6 in the chest
- 1 is in Jayce’s device
This is the crystal that Jayce and Viktor use in episode 3.
Powder steals the 6 crystals form the chest
Powder drops 1 crystal and it explodes.
So, now she only has 5.
But then in episode 3, we only see 4 in her possession.
When she throws her trunk on the floor during her panic attack, 4 fall out but 1 seemingly rolls off screen. Never to be seen again.
OR SO I THOUGHT!!!
When we see Powder make her monkey bomb she uses
2 for the body
1 FOR THE HEAD

4 Crystals were uses for Powder’s Monkey Bomb, not 3. But four.
FOUR!!!!
This has changed everything for me.
I mean there is still one crystal missing, that I have no idea where it went, but I don’t really care about that one. That just feels like an honest mistake and it doesn’t bother me.
What did bother me (way too much I know) was that I saw four crystals fall onto the ground and then I only saw three be used for the bomb. But that’s because one was already put into the head.
You have no idea how much it means to me to finally realize that there were four crystals used for the bomb.
Again, 1 crystal is still unaccounted for. Powder stole 6, 1 exploded, so she should have 5. But oh well.
