Welp, so... the two-hour Timeless finale is apparently happening.
I’m conflicted as hell because a) having more of the story is a good thing, and we get to see Rufus saved, and maybe some overall answers. I get to see my loves on screen again, and I do think the writers genuinely love their characters and won’t leave anyone deliberately screwed/dead. By the sounds of things, both Sony and the writers are leaving the door wide open for the show to be re-sold if it can pick up enough new viewers, and therefore hopefully won’t try to cram in EVERYTHING, which would be legitimately impossible and also unsatisfying.
Frankly, I just really really really don’t want them to try to force Wyatt and Lucy back together in two hours and for her to forgive him and that to be it. I was willing to be along for the ride if they took time to actually explore that and its consequences in a full season 3, but... yeah, any rushed or forced ending in that department is going to be a Big Nope for me. It’s no secret that I am ride or die Garcy, but all I realistically expect for them is maybe getting some journal answers (they have to deal with that, right? It’s like the biggest outstanding mystery) and maybe (????) some chance for them to address the “that’s not why I’m here” conversation from Chinatown. (Hey, I had no expectations for s2, and then I was blown away, so... maybe that will work again?) And overall, it kind of feels like pity crumbs from NBC -- they noticed the fan furor and the helicopters and whatever else, but they STILL can’t just give it a s3? So they’ll order a movie and again (at least it feels this way to my bitter, bitter heart) sabotage the chances of someone else picking it up and continuing it properly.
Sigh.
On the other hand, I know the cast, writers, producers, etc are very excited to get to do this and not leave it COMPLETELY hanging, and I support them in that and I’ll doubtless watch it anyway and flail over whatever we do get (and reserve the right to ignore the rest, if necessary). I hope it mostly focuses on saving Rufus and getting some big-picture answers, while leaving enough open to fuel future seasons, should we be so lucky, and ends on a hopeful note with the whole team together and enough ground to explore relationships in the future.
I’m still gonna do the Season 3 with the team over at @timeless-season-three, that’s not gonna change. If this finale airs in our hiatus, then hey, we can have both versions. But yeah, that’s definitely still happening, and we remain super excited about that as well.
