I wasn't here when it started and quite frankly I'm a bit nervous about asking but what is HHAU? I know about HMTB and the boatem circus found family and a few other random aus that you've thrown around but I have no idea what hhau is, can I please have some info? 👉👈🥺

hello! no need to be nervous! thank you for asking about hhau!

hhau stands for hunted hybrids au. it's an au i have created with @linkito for indulgent scarian rp and it's just... grown immensely. there are story rambles, art, and even some fics (mostly RP format). we've poured lots of love into it <3

you can find hhau masterpost in my pinned post (or just click through here), but to give you an idea of what it is about:

scar and grian find themselves thrown into a permadeath hybrid-hostile world that is cruelly determined to hunt them down (mostly for grian's pretty feathers; very dehumanising stuff). they scramble for survival in an unfamiliar, resource-lacking place, trying to navigate hopelessness, fear, pain, exhaustion, hunger, self worth, trauma, and a persistent lack of safety... and amidst it all, they tumble head-first into confessing love for each other, because they might not get another chance.

the story itself spans over two years, and we do have fun things like mimic arc, vex commune (put birb amidst sharp clawed warriors and see what happens), OCs that inevitably grow on you, and flock themes here and there!

basically if you enjoy scarian, hardcore survival stakes while being hunted for hybrid nature, intense complicated emotions, angst, codependency, separation anxiety, protectiveness, and long stories with story arcs… you might like this one :3

hhau grian and his vex bundle

i wanna briefly yap about some little choices in this post rescue hhau art. namely, the speech cracks. maybe it's obvious, but i still want to give a bit of my thoughts/reasoning.

for grian and mumbo part:

the speech crack is the lightest thing between them. it seems to separate them, making it difficult to reach across to the other side, but it's also the lightest part between them. wrapped up in a plea. begging.

it's a shared thought. it goes both ways. it's hope, and love, and the one thing that, if only they could figure out how to do it, could make both of their sides brighter. it's what they need to chase away the looming darkness around them both.

for grian and pearl part:

grian's thought aimed at himself about how changed he is feels inherently tied to his self worth, and is the darkest thing around. it snakes down from where it weightily hangs directly above him, wraps around, and comes to splinter cracks directly in the space between him and pearl.

it creates a ridge between them. a gap, something broken and sharp-edged and dark. a warning not to cross. placing a subtle ravine of separation in between them.

it's how he feels with everyone he was once close to. a ridge in between them that screams he's now different, they don't know him, he isn't who they used to know and love, he's changed, he can't be who they want him to be. and so he can't easily be just loved again... right?

[HHAU] i'm no longer the same

sometimes, grian feels like a broken echo of who he used to be, suffocated by the way everyone expects him to be whole after everything he's been through. (everything they don't know about.) he feels fractured, wounded, still bleeding in ways he can't even begin to express or explain.

worst of all, heart terrified and aching, he doesn't know how to let people close anymore. not after... everything. not again.

and so he keeps pushing them away, away, away. (because he can't be loved, and he can't be known, and he's not meant to be held close, and why can't they see it?)

and yet, for some unfathomable reason, they keep on trying.
