Amber!! 🫶 An au where Tommy never kissed Buck at the loft but they remained friends and the mutual pining was so unbearable for whoever were around them 👀👀
hi hi hi!! I hope the pining comes through enough - Buck is oblivious for much of this haha
1. Once he’s dropped Eddie off at home and made sure he’s okay — Chris has the instructions for his meds, that kid is awesome — he gets Evan’s address from Chris. He wants to go and clear the air. It’s pretty obvious that whatever is going on between him and Eddie has at least a little bit to do with him. He drives over there, groaning at the lack of parking options as he has to circle circle the block before he can find a spot. Evan opens the door, and Tommy immediately apologizes for getting between him and Eddie. He didn’t mean to, Eddie and Evan are both great, they hadn’t meant to hang out without him. Evan looks surprised, but invites him in and offers him a beer. Tommy doesn’t work until noon tomorrow, so he says yes to the offer. Evan admits he was jealous, especially of the trivia, which gets them talking about the bar trivia night Tommy goes to and the wildest things Buck knows, and by the time Tommy leaves, Evan has a standing invite to trivia nights. He’d admitted he wasn’t really into fights, but Tommy offered to teach him about the sport if he ever wanted. Tommy leaves feeling lighter and like he hasn’t fucked up a years long friendship accidentally.
2. Evan is intensely competitive at trivia nights. It’s— well, it’s kind of cute, if Tommy is being honest. He gets all flushed and stutters when he’s excited about an answer. He also flirts with every waitress their table has. Tommy had heard a fair bit about Evan’s dating history from Eddie and Chris, and he’s well aware of his own crush on the guy, but he knows better than to ask out a straight guy. Evan makes that a little hard to remember the first time they win when he’s there, as he bumps their arms together and grins at Tommy specifically, leaning in to Tommy while they eat their free nachos and drink their free pitcher. Viv, one of the other pilots from Harbour, is there, and gives him a look. Tommy wishes her wife was there to distract her from Tommy and his problems. He just shakes his head a little at her.
3. Tommy is so cool! So. Cool. He flies helicopters and planes, he knows Muay Thai, he goes to trivia. Buck’s just waiting to find out he scuba dives or climbs mountains or something else equally awesome. Buck helps them win the second time he comes to trivia and he feels like the smile is never going to leave his face. He asks Chimney questions about what Tommy likes, because he’s going to have a Muay Thai lesson with him next week and he feels like he should take something as a thank you. Hen asks what he’s going to do if he doesn’t like it and he just shrugs. Even if he didn’t like it, Tommy still gave up his time, right? He should still get something for it, and he already told Buck he wouldn’t let him pay for the lesson. Then he starts asking Chim and Hen about stories from when they still worked with Tommy.
4. Buck invites Tommy to Chimney’s bachelor party. It’s nice that they’re reconnecting, right? Tommy shows up even though he’s on call. everyone’s excited to see him, and Buck spends so much time following him around and trying to talk to him that it takes him over an hour to realize that Chimney hasn’t shown up to his own party. While he’s trying to call Chimney, Tommy gets a call from work and has to go in. Buck pauses in between calls to say goodbye to Tommy and “be safe” slips out before he can think about it too hard. He spends the rest of the night tryingto track down Chimney and checking his phone for updates from Tommy. He has to rope Josh into the search, but they find Chim before sunrise. The wedding still happens in the hospital, but Chim is allowed to put his suit on and stand up with Maddie. Buck’s already arranged with the photographer to do a make up day for better photos. He’s been texting Tommy updates so he lets him know they've moved to the hospital even though he’s still working the fire. When Tommy appears after they've cut the cake, sooty and still in his turnouts, to congratulate Chim and Maddie before he has to go back to the fire, Buck puts an extra large piece of cake between two plates to make kind of a take out container, and nearly shoves it into Tommy’s hand. He also walks him back to the doors and watches him get back into the ambulance he apparently rode in with. One of the other firefighters who is driving rolls down the window and yells something to Buck as they’re pulling out, but Buck doesnt catch it because another two ambulances pull up as they’re leaving. Buck texts Tommy later to make sure he got home okay and gets a reply the next morning— Tommy tells him hed gotten home the night before but basically passed out right away. He sends Buck a picture of his sooty pillowcase and Buck sends back his sympathies.
5. Tommy gets a medal with them. Buck doesn’t mean to keep hanging around him, but — well, they’re the only two without someone else there. It just makes sense. He meets Tommy and Chim and Hen’s old captain, and glares daggers at him when he makes a shitty comment to Tommy. Chim compares him to a guard dog and — it’s not like Tommy can’t take care of himself but Buck’s not going to just stand there and do nothing. And it was just a look. He would have done the same for Chim or Hen. He definitely sticks close to Tommy after that though, so he doesn’t have to deal with Gerrard alone. Ravi makes a joke about them being like those magnets that don’t separate. That makes Tommy flush and look uncomfortable, and Buck can’t figure out why. If it’s okay for Tommy and Eddie to be friends then surely it's okay for Buck and Tommy to be friends?
6. Tommy’s surprised when Evan’s texts and calls continue beyond the medal ceremony. Now that they don’t have mutual events on the horizon, he’d figured it would peter off. But Evan still texts him near daily updates and Tommy’s been caught by his coworkers way too many times reading his texts and smiling about them. They spend the lead up of every trivia night teasing him about Evan and making sure there’s always a spot next to Tommy for him. Tommy thinks they’re being ridiculous, and after he says so, the next trivia night they make sure there’s no seats on the same side of the table as Tommy by the time Evan gets there. He pouts and misses three answers that Tommy knows he knows. Tommy ignores the looks his coworkers give him. They place fourth and Evan has a look somewhere between shame and like some kicked his puppy. He doesn’t join in on the conversation much, nursing his beer until he and Tommy are the only ones left. Evan pays both bills and trails after Tommy to his truck even though they’ve already said goodbye.
“Do you not want me to come to trivia anymore?” Evan blurts out.
“What?”
“You usually save the seat next to you for me and today you didn’t. Am I — bothering you?”
“What? No, Evan, of course not.”
“Well, everyone else was giving me weird looks.”
“Those looks weren’t for you, they were for me.” Evan looks at him in confusion. “Evan, I’m gay.”
“Yeah, I know that.”
“They’re teasing me about that.”
Evan looks angry. “Why would they tease you about that? That’s just — that’s not something to tease about.”
“They think there’s something… between us,” Tommy admits, waving his hand between them.
“Oh. Oh!”
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable,” Tommy says. “I’ll tell them to cut it out.”
“You’ve never made me uncomfortable,” Evan says forcefully. “Never, Tommy.”
“Okay. Good. So everything is good between us? We can just go back to normal?”
“Sure.” Evan says, but his expression still looks a bit funny.
“I won’t be here for trivia next week, I have a shift, but I’ll see you the week after that?”
“Yeah, okay.”
Evan watches him as he gets in his truck and starts to drive away. Tommy waves as he pulls out of the parking lot.
7. Evan’s texts slow over the next week and Tommy tries not to mope. So much for things being normal between them. His coworkers definitely notice, because more treats than normal are appearing in the break room, but no one says anything. He notices a couple pitying looks when they think he’s not paying attention.
8. Evan texts him the day after trivia and asks if he wants to come over for a coffee. It’s been a long shift and Tommy kind of just wants to roll into bed for ten to twelve hours, but he also wants things to be normal with Evan again too, so he says yes.
9. Evan ushers him to a chair when he gets there, the little crease between his eyebrows that he gets when he's concerned out in full force. He puts a coffee mug in front of Tommy and slides him a plate full of muffins and cookies. Evan doesn’t sit though, he hovers awkwardly at the other side of the table.
“How’s the coffee? I couldn’t remember how you usually take it.”
“Mm, not like this,” Tommy says, “but it’s good.”
“I can remake it,” Evan offers.
“It’s fine. You can sit down.”
Evan notices he’s still standing and sinks into the other chair.
“Are you okay?” Tommy asks.
Evan nods, then shakes his head. “What if I don’t want things to go back to normal?”
The coffee turns to ash in Tommy’s mouth. Ah, this is why they didn’t go out for coffee. Evan’s letting him down easy, in private.
“Yeah, okay,” Tommy says, his voice sounding distant and dull. He puts his mug down and stands up. “No problem, Evan.”
“Yeah, I’ve been thinking about what your friends were saying and I — wait, where are you going?” Evan jumps up, putting himself between Tommy and the door.
“You said you didn’t want things to go back to normal,” Tommy says, confused.
“Yeah, because your friends were right,” Evan says, tilting his head to the side a little. “I— I think there is something here. And I want to, I want to see where it could go.”
Tommy stops thinking, and reaches out to tilt Evan’s chin slightly with two fingers, leaning in to kiss him. It’s soft, and gentle, and not as long as Tommy would like, but he needs to make sure that Evan’s okay with this. He pulls back and watches as Evan’s eyelids flutter open, a soft smile on his face.
Omg I’m probably too late for the AU game everyone’s doing, but,
AU where Tommy and Buck are already dating when Buck holds off cumming for a month to donate for Connor and Kameron.
He’d be three weeks in and unable to even make eye contact with Tommy without getting hard.
anon this ended up around 1k words. i have many thoughts about this. i also have some other ideas so literally if you don't like this one ask again and I'll dream up another universe for you.
this gets filthy by point 2. free use buck, anyone? can i interest anyone in a free use buck?
1. Buck is tired of being big and weird and too much in his relationships, so when Connor and Kameron ask him to be their sperm donor, he doesn't tell Tommy. He LIKES Tommy, doesn't want to scare him off, and this thing they have is new enough he's not sure if it could survive a "so I'm having a biological child and it's not yours, but don't worry because it's also not mine, not in any way that matters" conversation. But oh no, Buck’s boyfriend wants to have sex with him, and just being near Tommy gives him a half chub about a week or so in to his self-imposed abstinence, and there's only so many times he can shrug Tommy off before he notices something is up, so Buck starts cancelling dates.
Tommy is sure that Buck is pulling away because he wants to break up, and Tommy invented "they can't hurt you if you leave first," so he goes over to Buck's to break up with him. He tells Buck that this has been fun, but it's clear that Buck is done with Tommy, “so let's just tear off the bandaid.”
Buck is so pissed. He can't get off, and he just wants to help his friends, and he misses his boyfriend, and now his boyfriend thinks he wants to break up? Tommy gets up to leave, and Buck blurts out, "I can't come," and Tommy freezes halfway out of his seat. “Come where? I didn't ask you to go anywhere.” "No, orgasm. I can't come." Tommy is fucking confused. He doesn't know about the ‘Firehose’ nickname, but uh, yeah. Buck can come. Buck explains the donor thing, explains he didn't want to freak out Tommy, explains that he gets it if Tommy still wants to break up.
2. Tommy does not want to break up. He offers to abstain with Buck for the next little bit if that would help. Buck says no, that's not fair, he wouldn't wish this on anyone, "It's so hard, Tommy, I'm so horny all the time, any time I saw you I’d think about sucking you off or having your cock in me or–" and Tommy (never been harder in his life) says, "Well. You don't need to come if you're sucking me off." Buck asks, "Won't it be hard? I always get so turned on sucking you off" "Come on now, I thought you liked a challenge, baby?" and Buck is on his knees in the kitchen, sucking Tommy off without Tommy's leg between his to rut up against, without jerking himself off, without even his hand just squeezing his cock for relief because he's worried that would be enough, that would get him off. He's never been more jealous in his life than when Tommy groans and floods his mouth with come.
At least, he had never been more jealous in his life until that night, when he's on his hands and knees for Tommy, and his cock is so hard and left hanging between his legs, and Tommy is making the same groan he made as he came in Buck’s mouth as he slides his cock into Buck’s hole. In this position, Tommy has to try to slide against Buck's prostate, and he isn't; he just pounds into him at the angle he wants, at the speed he wants, as rough as he wants, and Buck's head is spinning. Tommy always makes sure Buck is okay, that it's good for him, but tonight he's just taking taking taking. And normally Tommy would be reaching for Bucks cock, stroking him off and telling him what a good boy he's been, but tonight Tommy's telling him that he's such a good hole for him, just a fucking fleshlight, a cumdump. And Buck is inches away from telling Tommy he has to stop, that Buck is gonna come just from this, when Tommy tells Buck, "already so full of come, and don’t worry, baby, you're just gonna get more" before pumping his load in Buck.
3. The next morning, Buck wakes up to Tommy making him breakfast. Tommy looks sheepish as he serves Buck. "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me," when absolutely what came over him is the idea that Buck wants to fuck even when he can't come just because he's that into Tommy, that he's so desperate for Tommy that he wants to take Tommy's cock in any way he can even if he can't come, that Tommy gets this, gets Buck begging for his cock with no motive other than to get Tommy off. It's making him lose his mind. And Buck knows it, forgives Tommy with a shrug, says there's nothing to forgive.
For Tommy, it's being wanted even if he can't be useful. For Buck, about being useful and desired and even though Buck is being weird and too much again, Tommy still wants him.
Buck says it's hot that Tommy was just using him as a sex toy. "My appointment is next week, but until then you can keep using me," and the phrase "using me" is enough to get them both hard and Tommy's fucking Buck against the kitchen counter, their breakfast getting cold.
4. Buck does some googling and figures out they're basically just fucking around with free use, and they do talk about it, and talk about continuing it after the deposit, and the conversation ends with Tommy fucking Buck's throat, teasing him for swallowing more come than anything else in the kitchen recently. For the next week, any time they have off together, Buck has a plug in so Tommy can just slide into him whenever he wants. Tommy calls him his specimen cup at one point, asks if Buck is ready for his deposit, and Buck is so turned on and frustrated and jealous that he cries.
5. During the deposit, Buck calls Tommy to talk him through it. "It's not gonna take much, is it, baby? You've been so good letting me use you, but it wasn't easy, I know. And now you’ve earned your reward. Do you think you can make it another month before your next one?" and Buck is whining just thinking about it, another month of Tommy fucking him with no regard to Buck getting off, of just being Tommy's sex toy, and for a second there he's worried he's gonna overflow the cup the nurse gave him.
send me an au and i'll tell you 5 facts/things that happen in it!
For the AU meme, please: Chimney and Maddie call in Tommy to help them in 9.13 when Buck goes missing in New Mexico
Oooooh, this will be 👀👀
The details might be vague since I've only seen this episode once
tw: Teeny tiny mention of drug-dependancy
---
Tommy very bitchily does not want to accept the call when he sees Howie's name on the screen. He knows it's a pattern just repeating itself. Another favor, he is guessing. So he stares at the name and just somehow knows that this is a call he needs to take. So he does and learns that his instincts were right when Howie tells him that Buck has gone missing. Over a year of no contact or not, Evan has taken a permanent residence inside his head and heart and the details he hears does not sit right with him.
So he pulls some strings. He flies off to New Mexico in a small plane, stays in contact with Athena throughout to learn all the new details she's gathered so far. She has great confidence in him, and he wishes he had that same confidence. He somehow in fic magic sneaks into Diaz's hospital room, and Diaz is surprised to see him and also relieved. It tugs mournfully at Tommy's heart. He misses the friendship they had, but he focuses on the task at hand and asks him for more details. "They think I killed him or something," Diaz says. "You gotta find him, Tommy. Wherever he is... I have a bad feeling about this." Tommy agrees and he sneaks out and goes on his mission.
It's all eventful from there on. He finds the diner, he puts pieces together and ends up somewhere that looks in the middle of nowhere, where he suspect Evan is, and-- he hears a commotion from inside the house. Hears a loud shout of pain that is unmistakably Evan's. Tommy wastes no time. He dials dispatch, sends Athena his location and straps his phone somewhere safe on him to make sure dispatch can hear everything and sprints towards the house.
He runs into Evan being repeatedly tazered on his leg and sees red. Manages to wrestle the rod from the woman's grip and pin her against the wall and away from Evan who lies lifelessly on the floor. Tommy keeps an eye on him helplessly as he keeps Bonnie away and informs dispatch about the scene. Moments later, a man comes in, looking bewildered and armed. He aims the gun at Tommy at first, then at Evan, and Tommy thinks this is it when he finally hears sirens.
He is immediately by Evan's side once Bonnie and the man gets taken, and he is there when he wakes up and reaches for Tommy, looking at him as if he was a dream. "You're here," he says, awed, and Tommy presses his lips to the inside of Evan's palm. "I'm here," he confirms, and he stays with him on the ride to the hospital. Evan calls Maddie from his phone and Tommy talks to Howie afterwards. "Thank you," Howie says tearfully and Tommy has a lot of things he wants to say back. So he does. "I did it for Evan. And I am-- I don't want to think about what could have happened if I hadn't taken the call. But Howie... don't expect me to call you my friend if this is how things are going to be. We can't go years with no talking and keep asking for favors. As far as I am concerned, we were even over a year ago." He pinches the bridge of his nose. This is hard, but so is therapy, as he's now learned. "That's not to say I don't like you. I just... I need more. Especially if I am going to be a part of Evan's life." There's silence on Howie's end for a while, and Tommy lets the moment sink in. "You're right. I will do better," Howie finally says, and Tommy is willing to believe that Howie will prove him right.
Diaz insists on driving them back to LA and Tommy stops that suggestion immediately as he will not let someone with a concussion drive and put them in even more potential danger. So he flies them all back home. He takes two weeks off to be by Evan's side and he takes care of him. Makes sure he gets the dosage right on the medication and takes him to his therapist appointments. There's no drug dependency, but a whole lot of PTSD.
Howie does do better as a friend. Tommy and Evan gets back together, and Evan eventually leaves 118 to become a trainer at the fire academy.
5 (or more) facts from an AU where...sometimes after the breakup* Buck ends up in a helicopter with Tommy after a call and has to take the controls for some reason...and it turns out he has been studying for his pilot's certificate.
*aka after 8x06. How far after or how much of S8 or S9 occurred is dealer's choice! (Though I would say probably not the already established lab chase which needed Tommy's brand of insane competence lol)
Buck and Tommy are each at a park for different reasons when it all of sudden starts to pour. Tommy invites Buck to shelter in his truck and wait out the rain.
(Alternate first meeting? Sometime after they meet in canon? Reunion fic? Ray's choice!)
Canon divergent reunion fic, taking place after the hook up, but before the lab. A fix-it, if you will. This isn't so much 5 facts as a whole ass 1500 word ficlet. What a tragedy.
1) Buck returns Bailey to his family, Blaze to her rightful family, Maddie gets kidnapped by a serial killer, Eddie moves to Texas, Buck moves his things into Eddie's place, Buck gets a shot at things with Tommy again because he's the biggest idiot he knows and he just… so fucking lonely. Listen, he likes drinks with Ravi, but everyone else has someone and he's just the odd man out. He's not sure Ravi actually has someone, but Ravi doesn't let it make him feel like he's less than.
"How do you do it, man?" Buck finally asks Ravi after a few rounds of tequila shots.
"Do what?" Ravi asks, playing dumb.
"Work with the 118 without letting them make you feel like a probie or a child." Buck points out.
"You still call me probie," Ravi tells him, snorting.
"Yeah, but I trained you," Buck tells him, dejected. "It's different."
Ravi's quiet for a minute, considering, then tells him bluntly, "You need a life outside the station, Buck."
2) Ravi gets Buck set up with a Frolf league.
"No, I'm not going with you," Ravi tells him. "The whole point of this is to make friends outside of work."
Buck joins a group of complete strangers and plays 18 "holes." It's fun. His foursome has a teacher, a physician's assistant and a financial advisor. They all know each other from frolf, but they make him feel welcome while they play. No one has time to hang after, off to family or work or errands, but Buck isnt ready to go back to his empty house.
3) The Frolf course is imbedded in a large, beautiful park. Far enough from Buck usual stomping grounds that he wouldn't normally think to visit. There's an off leash dog area, and Buck misses Blaze fiercely despite their short time together. Buck figures it's can't hurt to rest his leg and watch the dogs play. Its a nice day, slightly overcast so the sun isn't making it too hot. He parks himself on a bench under a tree and watches the dogs frolick. It's nice.
4) Buck's pleasure of watching dogs is interrupted by a very familiar voice yelling "Bowser! NO!" Buck looks in the direction for the voice and sees an adorable beagle puppy come bounding towards him, leash dragging behind him. The dog has the craziest markings he's ever seen, looks nothing like Blaze, but Buck recognizes the breed. It feels like the dog recognizes him no, from the way it yips at him and buries it's snout in his gut when it reaches him. Buck finds his hands full of squirming, soft, warm puppy. It's probably for the best that he's distracted when the dog's owner? Walker? Pet sitter? approaches.
"She was on the scent of something and managed to tug the leash out of my hand…" The familiar timber of Tommy's voice washes over him, then trails off when he realizes who he's talking to. He huffs a small laugh, ducks his head, and brings up one large hand to rub the back of his neck. "Although I guess this makes a lot of sense."
It doesn't make any sense to Buck, so he asks "When did you get a dog? I thought you didn't have time for one?"
Tommy grins, and even though the sky is darkening in an ominous manner, but Buck will never notice past how bright Tommy's smile is.
"I'm fostering a future Urban SAR dog. My captain approved bringing her with me to work to acclimate her to the sounds and smells of the birds, so I don't have to worry about long shifts."
"Oh! That's great. I know how much you always wanted a dog." Buck continued to pet Bowser, and she all but goes belly up in his lap, loving the attention. "Why didn't she make a break for me, though? She have a thing for firefighters?"
5) Before Tommy can answer the sky opens up starts to pour. There's a clap of thunder in the distance, and both Buck and Bowser visibly flinch.
"Come wait it out in my truck," Tommy offers, pointing to where he's parked nearby. Buck's parked on the other side of the park, near the start of the Frolf course, so he gratefully accepts the offer. He climbs into the passenger side, Bowser scrambling up and into his lap. She's clearly distressed by the noises and the rain pelting the roof of the truck. He pets her soft coat, offering her comfort.
Tommy slides into the driver's side, and looks at Buck and Bowser fondly.
"She's really taken a liking to me," Buck points out. "What's up with that."
"That's my fault," Tommy admits, refusing to meet his eyes. "When I first took her in I was told to crate her with something that smelled like me. I gave her an LAFD sweater from the hamper. Turns out it wasn't my sweatshirt."
"You kept my sweat shirt?" is what Buck takes from the conversation.
"I couldn't bring myself to give it back," Tommy admits, chagrined. "And then Bowser claimed it as hers and must have imprinted on your smell."
"I can't believe she was able to track me across the park," Buck says in awe.
"I'll admit, the last place I expected to find her was in your arms," Tommy tells him, tone almost jealous. "This is a little outside your usual stomping grounds."
"I recently realized I've been in a bit of a rut. I was out here trying the Frolf League." Petting Bowser, but feels a little courageous. He smiles at Tommy, hopeful. "Maybe it's fate, that we keep meeting like this?"
Tommy's expression shutters. "I'm not really interested in another casual hook up."
"I don't want casual either," Buck tells him, reaching over the console to put his hand on Tommy's. Tommy doesn't pull away, which Buck takes as good sign. "Eddie is family to me. I love him and Christopher like they were my own blood. I am not in love with him. I will never be in love with him. That's what I meant about not sleeping with someone I have feelings for."
"I never should have said Eddie was the competition," Tommy says, trying to deflect.
"He was though," Buck admits, feeling self aware. "I dropped you a lot to help him out, and that wasn't fair to you. You were so easy to fall in love with that I maybe took advantage of how easy going you were."
They both stop dead and stare at each other, the L word hanging in the air.
"You feel in love with me?" Tommy asks quietly, like the idea seemed impossible.
Buck snorts, realizing what a mess they'd made of everything. "I wasn't asking you to move in with me for an easier booty call."
"You never said anything," Tommy points out softly. "The Abby thing made me realize there was still a lot we didn’t know about each other. I felt like I was just there to help you figure out this new side of you."
"I definitely had feelings for you," Buck tells him, squeezing his hand. Tommy squeezes back, and Buck feels emboldened. "Still do, if I'm being honest. I don't think a day's gone by when I haven't thought about reaching out."
"Why didn't you?" Tommy asks.
Buck shrugs. "You walked out on me. Twice."
"I guess I did," Tommy agrees. "Would you give me a third chance? I'd like to try and stick around."
5) The rain let's up, and Tommy brings Buck to a local dog friendly café where they actually talk about them, and their future. They agree to take things slow, and actually set aside time to talk to one another. It's not all smooth sailing, but they make it work. Bowser is a constant companion on their dates, and her presence helps keep things PG.
6) Bowser doesn’t end up getting search and rescue certified. She never gets acclimated to storms, so Tommy adopts her
7) The lab storyline happens differently enough that no one gets trapped in the lab and everyone lives! Hooray!
8) Eddie stays in El Paso and gets his firefighter job there. Being near his family, with Christopher, is good for them. In the months before the lease on Eddie's house is up, Buck and Tommy talk about next steps. Buck's prepared find another apartment, but Tommy tells him to officially move in. Buck already spends his free time at Tommy's place.
9) Buck continues to play Frolf, and meets a great group of people through the sport. Ravi even agrees to play with him from time to time. Buck continues baking, and picks up a few more hobbies and finds his life has never been fuller.
10) When Buck and Tommy get married, Jee is the flower girl, and baby Han is the ring bearer. Ravi is Buck's best man, with Maddie, Chris and Eddie also standing with him. Tommy has Sal, Chimney and Lucy, but instead of a best man, he has a best dog. Bowser sits proudly next to him as he and Buck recite their vows, wearing a bandana that proudly reads "Best Dog."
For the AU game, I need to know about rich boy Tommy Kinard. You know I adore him (and you). ❤️❤️
Hello, hello @judymarch15! Apologies for the delay! The holidays swallowed me up, but I have emerged victorious with this lil' prompt answer for you. Hope you like it!
Yay for more rich boy Tommy! Putting this one under the cut because it got long, lol
Buck is at a fancy LAFD benefit. Like, wear a tux kind of fancy. He thought it was the kind of thing only the brass went to, but apparently getting to mingle with 'real' firefighters was part of the appeal for the donors and so here Buck was, squeezed into a rented tux and eating weird finger food off a ridiculously tiny plate.
Seriously, he was going to need at least twelve of these to make a full meal.
An hour in, Buck was already feeling pretty talked out, but Bobby had been pretty firm about him sticking around until at least after the speeches which didn't seem to be happening any time soon. He looked around, trying to spot any waitstaff carrying around more food and spotted a guy - in a tux, definitely NOT staff - halfway hidden behind a column with a WHOLE tray in his hands. Were you even allowed to do that?
Weaving through the crowd, Buck snatches a few tidbits off of passing trays to add to his tiny plate as he makes his way over to the mystery man.
"I'll trade you some of these shrimpy things for some of those chicken skewers," Buck offers - and then freezes in place when the most beautiful blue eyes ever look up to meet his.
His shock melts away into a huff of laughter when he realizes the guy's cheeks are pretty much stuffed full like a chipmunk with his horded canapés and it takes him a minute to swallow enough to answer. "Deal," the guy says and they make the swap, exchanging names (Tommy, his name is Tommy) as they keep eating their stolen goods.
Tommy complains about how there's never enough food at these things and Buck heartily agrees. They share their little feast, chatting about nothing in particular as Buck notices Tommy's gaze keeps straying to Buck's lips. Hard not to notice when his own keeps doing the same thing.
When the tray is finally empty and Buck's little plate is left on top, Tommy bemoans the fact that they have to wait until after speeches are done before they bring dessert out. Buck, feeling bold after all of those looks, says he knows where they might be storing them all, promptly tugging Tommy away toward the coat room.
'Dessert' is great. Top tier. Best part of the whole evening. Right up until a throat clears right outside of the coat room and Buck emerges with Tommy to find a pained-looking Bobby waiting for them. "It's time for the speeches," he says...
To Tommy, who blushes, giving Bobby a short nod before heading back inside and up toward the stage. Buck and Bobby follow behind, Buck growing even more confused as he sees Tommy on the stage and then being introduced as Thomas Kinard Jr., the current head of the Kinard Foundation - their benefactor for the evening. Buck learns that Tommy's almost as good at making speeches as he is at offering dessert.
Almost.
Some sentences Sunday. Project Hail Mary and all the excitement surrounding the Artemis II mission has me thinking about my The Martian Bucktommy AU. I did a rewatch of the movie and reread since I first started thinking of it, so here’s my updated idea:
Premise is still the same: Evan Buckley, an astronaut with a background in mechanical engineering and entomology, is stranded on Mars when he is believed dead by the rest of his crew during an emergency evacuation. Even though Buck is an entomologist, he has a strong grasp of botany as his research focuses on insect/plant relationships, so is able to jerry rig a mini farm in the Mars habitat to grow potatoes. It's just him and his little hive of genetically modified bees on Mars. (This is me veering way from the hard science of the source material, I just want Buck making pets out of a little hive of bees and crying when some die/he has to leave them behind because I'm a sadist)
Big difference is that instead of being a random at Mission Control, Tommy is the badass pilot who is able to get the rest of the crew of the Martian surface + remotely pilot Buck’s space capsule when he’s rescued
The pilot selected for the mission was originally Lucy Donato, Tommy was her backup. Since the backups train alongside the crew for years, Tommy is already a part of the team. After about six months Tommy is annoyed to find he has a massive crush on Buck, but is able to keep a lid on it. Even if Buck wasn’t straight it’s inappropriate for their mission—he knows it’s unlikely that Lucy will have to step down, but there’s still a possibility he and Buck will be on a cramped, tiny space ship on a highly dangerous mission for a year together and there’s no place for relationship drama. (Besides, even though this takes place a few years in the future Tommy is still an openly gay male astronaut, one of the first if not the first. He’s had to fight against so much latent and upfront bigotry in his career) He will not enforce the stereotype that gay men can’t keep it in their pants and prey on straight men.
Meanwhile Buck is fighting for his life against bisexual demons during their training. (Tommy is older and has flown on missions to the ISS before, he’s so badass and cool and Buck likes him so much and wants to get to know him and he has a cleft).A few months before the launch, Buck and Tommy share a kiss after a party and the lightbulb of bisexual clarity goes off in Buck’s head. He realizes oh, I like Tommy Like That.
Tommy, meanwhile, is like “That can’t happen again for eighty billion reasons, not the least of which is you’re going to be literally in outer space for a year.” Buck kinda wants to argue that’s a positive, because if they have sex and it’s awkward then the odds of them running into each other are pretty low. But he’s realizing he doesn’t (just) want to have sex with Tommy, he wants a relationship. Tommy says that they can go on a date when Buck gets back if he still wants to. Buck doesn’t like this idea, because clearly someone is going to snap Tommy up while he’s gone.
Anyways, Lucy gets injured or contracts the measles or something close to the launch, which means Tommy takes over as pilot. He and Buck agree that they can keep it professional; they are scientists and can keep it in their pants for their mission. The deal still stands—if Buck is still interested, they’ll go on a date when they get back. Cue six months of the Torment Nexus for them both. If anything they get even closer, and both of them think this is way more than infatuation, and they want a future together. They try not to be too obvious, but the other crew members (Hen, Chimney, Ravi, and Eddie) almost want to tell them to just fuck already because the pining is getting out of hand.
Then Buck gets left behind on Mars because he’s presumed dead during an emergency evacuation due to a freak storm. Captain Han has to order Tommy twice to take off, and it’s the hardest thing Tommy’s ever done, and even though he knows Buck is dead he will never forgive himself.
Buck follows the plot beats for The Martian, with the addition of having a separate, private log of everything he wants to say to Tommy. It includes some unhinged horny thoughts as well as sappy wishes for the future and, in the likely eventuality of Buck’s death, any words of comfort he can find. (He knows if he were in Tommy’s place he’d be barely functional)
He’s even more outraged than Mark Whatney when he makes contact with NASA and is told his survival was kept from the crew. When he’s finally allowed to contact the crew, he sends Tommy a message like, “If you must feel guilty and beat yourself up over this then make it up to me by turning down all the hot guys that will obviously be flocking to you when you get back to earth, because we have a date.”
The crew ends up getting the maneuver that will let them turn back towards Mars and get Buck, and like in the movie Chimney explains the decision has to be unanimous and this would be a mutiny. Obviously everyone agrees immediately, Eddie and Tommy’s voices overlapping as they say they’re in.
Badass space rescue mission, Tommy remote control pilots Buck’s escape capsule, Eddie does the EVA to go get him, tearful reunions galore.
One of the crew bedrooms got damaged during the rescue shenanigans, and Chimney tells Buck and Tommy, “Jesus, just share a room, I will look the other way due to extenuating circumstances.”
Finally, Buck still has trouble adjusting to life back on earth due to PTSD and unexpected fame; plus he and Tommy have to keep their relationship on the down low at first. It comes out eventually, and people are more supportive than they expected.
AU where Tommy and Buck met in Peru. Tommy is on a vacation and he sees a cute bartender at the beach, so he gathers up the courage to talk to him.
VIAAAA I love thiiiis so much! I love alternate first meetings, and Peru!Buck is so endearing! There we go:
1 - Tommy decides to take a vacation after breaking up with Abby. He's accumulated enough PTO over the years that he can be gone for almost a month, and he needs space to be himself somewhere he's completely unknown - he's still not brave enough to come out in LA, he's working up to it. Peru is a whim - he closes his eyes and points blindly on a map. Thank goodness his Spanish is not too bad.
2 - At this point Buck's been working at the resort for six months. He flirts as easily as he breathes, which means he usually gets awesome tips. and he's always so charming, but then this guy. Buck is an ally, but oh wow, he needs this guy's work-out routine. He's shaped like a Greek god, chiseled chin, dark blue eyes and a scrunchy smile that for some unkown reason makes Buck's heart skip a beat.
3 - Tommy's main reason for traveling was to go to parties and kiss guys and finally feel comfortable in his own sexuality (maybe a hook-up if he's lucky). But ever since he arrived at the resort, he prefers to stay at the bar and talk to the barman who's super cute despite the hideous highlights in his hair.
4 - Their first kiss is on a day where Tommy stays on the bar until it closes, and then he offers to walk Evan to the staff quarters. Buck's talking his ear off because Tommy told him he's a firefighter and Buck finds that really cool and wants to know more. And when they get to Buck's room, he gives Tommy a shy smile and a 'Hmm, sorry. I tend to ramble.' and Tommy can't have Buck thinking he's mad or upset about his rambling, so. He kisses him. And Buck has his '...oh.' moment about his sexuality and kisses back very enthusiastically.
5 - When Tommy's vacation ends, he hasn't kissed as many guys as he thought he would. But he comes back to LA with a boyfriend ♥️
(gooood now I want to expand this into a whole fic where Buck goes through the Academy with Tommy acting as his guide, and where Tommy comes out before leaving the 118, and maybe he doesn't feel the need to leave so soon, and the two of them work together!!!)

Via, my love, I hope you enjoy this!!! I certainly enjoyed writing it for you ❤️
(send me an au idea and I'll tell you 5 facts about it)
