hichasestokes: it’s hard to put into words how crazy this year has been, but I’ll do my best. I don’t think there is ever a level of comprehension for feeling as much love from the entire world as this show has brought. To be with a group of people with nothing to lose and gain so much joy from this. To have people fall in love with the world. To embrace characters who have flaws, and find a way to follow them is so unbelievably gratifying. So with that being said. Thank you.. have tears in my eyes writing this. I can’t wait for the world to come back to normal and meet you beautiful people face to face and thank you for all your love. This is for the dreamers, the kids who didn’t fit in. For those looking for an adventure, for those who want to get lost, and just go with the flow. 1 year of obx. P4L. Let’s keep groovin? Ok love you guys ❤️

December 28th, 2019, Los Angeles.
They landed at LAX an hour earlier and Rudy had driven them back to his apartment so that they could get a little bit of rest before their early flight the next morning.
“Did you wanna go back to yours before or-?” he asked as they arrived closer to his apartment building.
“Nah, I brought all my stuff to yours before we left. I miss your mom already.” Grace chuckled as he parked.
“Pretty sure she would’ve kept you there if she could.”
“I think I would’ve stayed, honestly.” She got out of the car and walked to the front door, waiting for the blonde to unlock it so she could go nap. With a groan she walked to his bathroom, knowing she had to make a load of laundry if she wanted to have enough clothes for the other trip.
“Where you keeping your soap, Dee?” she asked as she unzipped her luggage and put clothes in the machine. She heard his footsteps in the hallway before she felt him walk behind her. He tapped twice on her right shoulder, silently asking her to move aside so he could grab the soap that was in the cupboard above her head.
“Thank you.” She mumbled before opening it and filling up the cup and pouring the soap in the machine.
Once the load had been started, she walked out of the bathroom to find him sat on the couch. She let herself fall over the back of it, her head ending up on his lap.
“How’s James?”
“Meh, not going as I’d hoped.” She whispered, his eyes never leaving the paper in his hands.
“Ain’t satisfying?” he asked, as his eyes looked for her reaction.
“Satis-? Ew, I’m not talking about that with you.” She groaned and she sat up, his chuckle being the only sound in the apartment. “So where are the boys?”
“Home, went to see their families.”
“Ooh, any of them got a special someone?”
“Nope, just a bunch of lonely actors, living in L.A.”
“Y’all will find someone.” She muttered.
“Yeah? Do you think you have that, with James? Is he your one true love?”
“No, I don’t think he is, like I noticed things lately and I feel like we’re not on the same page, y’know? Like he’d be ready to settle down and he’d be happy with that and I want to travel, and I want to live my twenties. I want so many things for my life and my career before settling down and slowing down. I don’t know if you get what I mean...” Grace turned to Rudy once she noticed he was silent, and she found him already looking at her which caused a blush to appear on her cheeks.
“Yeah, I do actually.” He said, their eyes not leaving each other’s for a few seconds.
- December 29th, 2019, Montreal.
When they arrived at LAX for the second time in twenty-four hours it was a little bit past four in the morning and to say that Grace was exhausted and leaning against Rudy for support was an understanding. Her face brightened up a bit when she saw her friends; Chase, Madelyn, Madison and Drew, who were waiting for them.
“Good morning!” she said sleepily, her head, that’d been resting on the blonde’s arm, stood upright and she smiled at her friends who were watching her with amusement.
“Yesterday’s flight was tiring?”
“Mmh-mmh.” She said, her hand leaving the warmth of his and she grabbed her suitcase, ready to make her ways through customs.
“Couldn’t you guys just fly from yours to hers?” Drew asked as he helped Grace with her suitcase.
“From Juneau to Montreal it’s fourteen hours.” Rudy informed him.
“My mom texted me this morning and she’s very excited to see y’all, she said that she missed you, so be ready for lots of hugs and kisses.” They all chuckled at the girl’s words.
She felt a bit nervous at the idea of going back home after almost a year and a half, she felt nervous of going back with them, but she was also very excited for the cast to meet her hometown friends. On the short plane ride, about six hours, Grace slept and wrote a lot, Maddie’s head was heavy on her shoulder as she slept the flight away. They were informed that the plane would soon land at Pierre-Elliot Trudeau airport and Grace breathed and looked out the window already seeing the natural white carpet that accompanied Montrealer’s for half the year.
“Maddie, we’re here.” She brushed some hair out of her friend’s face, the oldest of them groaning.
“Do I need to put on my snowshoes?” she asked in her sleep induced state.
“Nah, you should be just fine to get to the car.” She chuckled and buckled in for the final descent, her ears hurting as they came closer to the ground.
“We have reached our destination of Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport in Dorval, Montreal. The local time is 2pm. We hope you enjoy your stay.” The captain said in the telephone, his voice rang through the few speakers scattered around the plane.
Grace and Madison got out of their seats, getting on their tiptoes to get their carry-on bags from the overhead compartment. Drew, being the tallest of the group, snorted at the girls’ struggle and reached over their heads to grab both bags and handing to their rightful owner.
“Thank you.” They said, their bodies heavy with sleep. Rudy and Drew sat in front of Grace and Madison and to Chase and Madelyn’s right for the whole flight, the group being careful to get seats together.
They two boys walked out first, followed by Grace and Madison and then Madelyn and Chase.
“We have to get through those doors, and we’ll be at baggage claim.” Grace informed her friends seeing the panels. She started to feel excited at the thought of seeing her mother after so many months.
“Dee, can you get my bag? I’ll get the key to the rental.” The brunette asked and when she saw the blonde nod, she parted ways with them and walked to the counter where a middle age woman stood.
“Hi, we have a rental car, a van I think under the name Jane Beauvais, pick up for 2:30.”
“Yes, I’ll be right back with the papers, get your license and insurance out please.” The woman said and Grace frowned. She looked around her, another customer handing the requested documents to another employee. She tried to catch sight of one of her friends.
“Here you go, license?” the woman asked, and Grace pulled on her fingers anxiously.
“Yeah- I don’t have uh- don’t have it but my- my, my friends should be here soon.” She stuttered under the older woman’s severe look.
“Where did Gracie go?” she heard Madelyn’s voice and whipped around with big eyes, silently pleading for one of them to see her. She waved her hands up and Chase caught sight of her, and they started to walk towards her.
“They need a licensed driver.” She mumbled to Rudy with a pout and he chuckled, shaking his head in amusement before bringing her into his side.
“I told you, angel, like, repeatedly that it’s like that in most places.”
“Whatever.” She said, just as he fished his wallet out of his pocket and filled out the documents. He made small talk with the woman and she handed him the key without another word.
“Ok, have a good day, I guess?” Madison said with a grimace at the employee’s bad attitude. “Aren’t y’all supposed to be all nice in Canada?”
“Meh, she might be from the states, I don’t know.” She shrugged before grabbing Madelyn and pushing Rudy towards the exit.
Once they got into the car and Grace sat in the passenger seat and Rudy in the driver seat, they made the one-hour journey to Grace’s mother’s house.
“So, mom said she had set up a few places for y’all to sleep and we have plenty of room, so we’ll all have our own places.” Grace said more than thirty minutes into the ride.
“And, who gets the chance to room with you?” Drew asked, his head appearing between the two front seats.
“No one!” she laughed pushing him back. “Dee, you can take the next left to get to the highway.” She instructed and a smile appeared on her face when she started to recognize the way.
“We almost there?” she heard Chase from the back.
“Yeah, a little bit over twenty minutes left.” She spoke. She bent her knees, letting her heels rest against the car seat and she wrapped her arms around her legs keeping them against her. “I’m nervous.” She mumbled, hoping only the blonde could hear her. The laughs and loud voices from the backseat drowned out her quiet tone.
“Why?” he asked, his head turned quickly to look at her before he set his eyes on the road ahead.
“I haven’t seen my friends in months and simply called them with a quick “I got the role I’m leaving for Charleston for a few days” and then just told them that I had a more permanent role in the show. Haven’t talked to them much since then.”
“I’m sure they’ll understand.”
“Yeah, but still. It’s not like I can share anything about the show y’know. We still have a few things to do for post after the holidays.”
“They’ll understand, Gray- do I turn there?” he asked, and she nodded. “Look, they knew this was something you really wanted to do, and you got to do it! They know we worked like fucking crazy filming this show. I think they’ll just be happy to see you home.” He smiled and she nodded before mouthing a “thank you.”
The ride was almost silent for what was left of it except from the giggles and the song lyrics that were sang.
“Oh, Gracie it’s a nice house, damn!” She heard Drew say and she lifted her head from her phone and a gasp left her lips at the snow filled ranch house.
“We’re here.” She said and her friends laughed at her amazed expression.
“Ok, c’mon!” Madison said excitedly as she jumped out of the van and opened the passenger door, pulling the brunette out. “We have arrived, Grace Parker!” she said with a smile and Grace finally smiled.
“GP!” she heard her mother’s voice before the front door slammed shut. She turned around before running into her mother’s arms, feeling the sneaky ice under the thick blanket of white snow.
“How did she not fall?” Chase asked to Madelyn and she just shook her head.
Grace’s body slammed into her mother’s, her arms wrapped around her middle and she breathed in the warm and familiar scent.
“Hi mama.”
“Let me- let me look at you!” she sniffled before cupping her daughter’s face in her hands. “Beautiful.” She kissed her cheeks, wiping the actress’ tears. Jane looked to the side and a warm smile was on her face immediately. “Hi, loves!”
“Hi Jane!”
“Hi Miss B.”
“How you doin Jay?”
They all greeted the mother, and she took a step back, looking at the young adults in front of her, including her daughter who stood between her two favorite blondes.
"Ok, let’s get inside before I start to cry.” She turned around, pulling Madison to her and rubbing her jacket covered arm. “We’ll get your bags later.”
The front door opened and Sam, Grace’s stepfather appeared.
“How you doing, sweetheart?” he asked, his voice was low and gruff.
“Hi Sam!” she hugged him. “Where are Molly and Artie?” she asked before barking came from inside the house.
“Had to lock them downstairs when y’all pulled in because they almost went through your mom’s curtains.” Grace nodded before running inside, hearing her mother’s warning about having wet shoes inside the house.
“BABIES!” she shouted when she opened the door leading to the basement. A golden retriever and an Australian shepherd jumped up on her and Grace started to cry. “I missed you so much.” She said as she received multiple kisses from them.
“Gracie where are- oh my god puppies!” Madelyn said before seeing her friend sat on her floor, tears running down her face. “Maddie there’re dogs!” the blonde said hearing their friend’s heavy footsteps before another awing was heard and the dogs started barking all over again.

They had been chatting for over an hour, all of the actors were sat on the couches or chairs in the living room, coats and footwear discarded near the door. Grace had finally calmed down after her favorite blonde, unknowingly, pulled her in to sit on her dad’s favorite chair.
“Aren’t you guys a little hungry?” Jane asked and Chase’s face illuminated at the thought of food.
“Well, Chase is.” Madelyn said her arm wrapped around the actor’s shoulder.
“I mean, yes, a lot I’m actually starving.” He said dead serious and Jane’s eyes opened wide in shock.
“Well, then, you will help me with the food, curly. Come on!” she said before moving to the double doors a few feet away from them.
The rest of them chuckled while Grace dug herself deeper into the crook of Rudy’s arm, an easy smile rested on her face at the sight of her friends happy and in her home. Her stepdad kept his eyes on her, he hadn’t seen her in almost a year, but he could see that something had changed, she seemed happier, more at peace, less anxious and more in tune with herself. He glanced to her left, his eyes carefully and subtlety going over the older actor next to her. The friends kept laughing and chatting, their attention on each other. Ready to go back to the conversation and laugh at Drew’s joke, Sam saw a little movement and smiled a little bit when he noticed Grace’s hand clutched in Rudy’s, his thumb going over her knuckles.
“I’ll go help them in the kitchen, I’ll be right back. Y’all need anything to drink?” he asked, and they all shook their heads. He joined his partner and Chase in the kitchen just as Madelyn commented.
“Damn he has a thick southern accent, where he from?”
“Charleston...”
Sam chuckled while he pushed open one of the doors.
“He’s good for her.” He immediately said and Chase and Jane whipped around, the young adult adding condiments on the sandwiches they were making.
“I told you.” She said back and pressed a kiss to her jaw.
“You guys talking about Rudy and Grace?”
“Mmh-mmh!”
“Yeah, I mean I’m with them every day, right? Like I live with the guy but, there’s just something about them together, in the same room.”
“Yeah, I can see it and sure you’ll say it’s because I’m her mom but, there is something that’s just pure and peaceful.”
“A little bit like Jane and Henri when they met.” Sam said and Jane smiled sadly.
“Henri?” Chase frowned putting a baby carrot in his mouth.
“Huh, Grace’s father.”

Grace was walking backwards, talking animatedly with her hands as she explained her friends the plans for that night. They were walking down a busy street in downtown Montreal.
“Ok, so for tonight we are going easy and relaxed. I’ll make y’all try Quebec’s delicacy, poutine.”
“Isn’t a Canadian delicacy?” Chase asked and Grace playfully glared at him.
“Technically yes but ask anyone out here tonight and they’ll tell you that we do it best and I’m no liar.” She said pointing her fingers towards them. She turned around to actually walk with them and yelped when she was tugged into a thick burnt orange winter coat.
“How much is my ass gonna hate me after that?” Drew asked from beside her.
“As in farting or like the calories?”
“Both.”
“It won’t be your friend.” She chuckled.
They walked into a neighborhood restaurant and the youngest of them all walked to the counter.
“Get a table, I’ll be there in ten minutes.” She turned back before ordering six poutines to the man, along with water and some sodas. After paying, she expertly balanced the six plates on one tray and the drinks on another before walking swiftly between the tables and joining her friends.
“Look at that guys, we got our own little waitress. Think we’ll have to tip her?” Maddie joked as she helped Grace distribute the food.
“Oh god, this looks like a heart burn waiting to happen.” She heard Mads groan as she picked at the greasy food with her fork. “So, what is it exactly?”
“Gravy, fries and salty cheese curds.”
“I’m gonna need something sweet after this.” Chase mumbled and Grace lifted her hand up without looking up from her drink. The actor slapped a high-five in her hand before she swallowed her sip.
“We’re getting maple taffy after that, bro. They have this little stand a few streets down near an ice-skating rink and the people are so nice.” She said before shoveling the hot food in her mouth.
“Amen.”
“What are y’all waiting for?” she asked once she noticed that her friends hadn’t touched their food yet. “We ain’t gonna pray or anything.”
“You just- look and sound so fucking Canadian right now.” Rudy said from her left.
“I’m a little turned on to be honest with you, babes.” Madelyn said looking straight at the brunette.
“You fucking wish, blondie.” She looked at her friends who watched her with a surprised expression. “Ok, eat up now!”
Quiet moans of appreciation were heard all throughout the table and it made Grace smiled.
“The cheesy bites, wow.” Drew said, his head thrown back as he wiped his mouth and sipped from the straw of his water.
“Right?” Chase added eating as if he hadn’t eaten in days.
“Might have to move here, a bit farther from my parents but like—” Rudy started but Grace stopped him.
“Y’know that my mother would probably make you a room in the basement or something so, don’t even joke about this.”
“Talking about mothers and all, how did y’all’s trip back to Rud’s home went?” Madison asked the pair and Grace coughed before taking a sip from her water.
“It went great. My parents loved having her there, pretty sure my brothers fell in love with her but whatever.”
“And your cousins, don’t forget that! But I also met a few of his school friends. I have never, ever played a soccer game on ice, but I would actually do it again.”
“Y’all had fun?”
“Yeah, we were barely at the house but when we were, my mom would kidnap her and just cook and bake with her.” The blonde commented and Grace’s cheeks turned a deep red color.
They finished eating and after Grace hurried to pay, they walked, all of them bundled up in their winter coats.
“It’s around the next corner guys, there’s hot cocoa and a small heater and the maple taffy I was talking about.” She said while putting her gloves on.
Laughs and screams coming from kids and adults could now be heard. They walked around the corner and stopped to assess the view in front of them. A small, elevated stage with stairs and a roof, painted a forest green and white, was surrounded by a smooth ice surface when people were skating. Fairy lights were hung up everywhere, giving a magical and festive glow to the park. Grace sighed happily before glancing at her friends who looked amazed, Grace chuckled when she noticed that Madelyn’s hand was clasped in Chase’s. Both of them kept denying any feelings for each other but she had an ongoing bet with Austin.
Soft acoustic guitar could be heard, the sweet smell of watered-down cocoa and sugary ice was what filled the air. It was what made Grace feel the most at home.
“So, what are we starting with, ma’am the tour guide?” Chase joked and Grace just smiled.
They all got a pair of ice skates and ran onto the ice, Grace grabbed Maddie’s hands to help her stabilize when she wobbled. Grace glided back as she held her friend who was doing her best to slide smoothly on the ice.
“How are you that good of a skater?” she heard ask and she slowed down to match his pace. “Few years of hockey and like a year of figure skating.” “Marry me?” Drew joked and Grace shoved him away laughing. “Hey, you good?” she asked Madison who nodded and let go, taking hesitant steps forward. “Ok, good. See ya” she said quickly before going after Drew who was a few feet ahead of her.
Her legs pushed on the ice and her arms moved back and forth, she swiftly skated and passed her blonde friend who let out a shout of her name. Wanting to show off a little bit she crouched down and stood up in a jump that made her twirl. She heard a few claps from afar and caught sight of Chase and Mads that were looking around the park. She looked ahead and noticed Rudy, who had stopped to take a few pictures and she braked, a lot of the shaved ice going on his jeans.
“You’re in my way, Pankow.” She said as she took a step towards him and even with the skates, he had a full head of height over her. “Stop showing off, Russell, modesty fits you better.” She rolled her eyes at his wink and skated away only to be followed by the blonde. - They were all sporting rosy cheeks and light hearts when they walked through the front door as quietly as possible at two in the morning.
“But you fucking face planted! Like full on, FLAP! Aare you sure your tooth’s not broken?” Grace asked Chase grabbing his face to make sure he still had all his teeth. “I’m all good, just fucking hurts.”
The lights went on and they all stared, wide-eyed, at Grace’s mom as if they were teenagers being caught for something bad.
“Hi, mom.” Grace yawned while she took off her boots. “Kids. Hey, GP forgot to tell you that we added the other mattress for you and the girls in your room.” Her mom said before going back upstairs.
“Yeah, okay.” She nodded. “Yeah, huh, quick question, Gray, where are we sleeping?” Rudy asked looking at the two other men. “Basement.” They heard her mom say from the second story. “Let me show you.” She said and motioned for them to follow her.
They followed Grace down the wooden steps, and all let out surprised gasps when she turned on the lights. Three couches, a flatscreen TV, bathroom and a kitchenette were in front of them.
“What’s this?” “That’s the apartment, where I lived before moving out, they transformed it into an entertainment room and boys, this is where you will be glamping tonight.” “Sweet.” An over excited Drew said, before he walked in and dropped his bag on the very large couch. “I, actually, never been so excited to sleep on a couch.”. “Whatever floats your boat, babes.” Grace chuckled as she watched the fully grown man flop down on the couch with a pleased sigh leaving his lips. “The two of you can choose between my old bed or the inflatable mattress.” “Dibs on the bed, Pankow. Ain’t no freaking way I’m sleeping on an inflatable mattress, my back’s killing me.” “Forgot you were almost forty.” Rudy chuckled as he patted the puffed-up mattress with his hand.
Once everyone had gone to sleep it was around three, though Grace couldn’t sleep, she stayed in bed, hearing Madison’s soft snore and feeling Madelyn’s kicks on her shins. The light from her phone suddenly illuminated the room and she huffed out while she rolled over and grabbed it.

Grace clicked off her cellphone, put on a hoodie along with a pair of socks, re-plugged and leaving her cellphone on the night table and she went down the stairs, being careful to not make the floor creak too much.
“Hey,” she heard a hushed whisper and stopped to look at the blonde who had stayed by the door leading to the basement. “How come you couldn’t sleep?” she walked down the stairs and into the living room where she fell down on the couch. “Just got a lot of my mind.” He mumbled and she patted the empty space beside her, and he sat down, only to lay down and have his head rest on her lap.
She nodded and focused on the locks of hair that were between her fingers. Her nail scratched at his scalp and a low hum left the back of his throat.
“When I was a kid, each Sundays, dad and I would go out for breakfast at this place down the street.” “The one with the hen?” he whispered, his eyes were still closed. “Yeah...” she smiled down at his peaceful face and kept her massages on his skull. “So, we’d get there and that one time, I was I think nine and I just thought that his coffee smelt so good so while he was in the restroom, I took a big sip from the cup and well, first of all it was hot so I burnt my tongue and also, my dad drank black coffee no sweetener or milk or anything so, I see him coming out of the bathroom with a smile as he catch my eye and I wanted to spit it out so bad.” She said and felt him chuckle against her. “But I couldn’t let him know that I’d drank it because my mother didn’t want me drinking caffeine, so I swallowed it... It was my first ever taste of coffee and when we walked back home later that day, he stopped me and told me “Y’know Gray, I won’t tell mom that you drank the coffee but tell me, did you like it?”” Grace chuckled as she looked off to an old family picture that sat on the windowsill. “And I don’t remember what he told me, but he took me to Tim Horton’s that day to get a French Vanilla decaf coffee telling me that it was desert coffee and that it would be our secret.” “Is that why you cried when my dad gave you a French vanilla coffee last week?” he asked and she nodded, a sobbed laugh escaping her. “Being with your family made me miss mine, when it was whole and, I just, it’s silly but I just really felt at home in that house...”
“It felt right having you there too, Gray. Honestly, you just clicked with my whole ass family right away, you took time to dance with my cousins, you talked about your studies and all that with my grandma... You just fit right there.” He said and opened his eyes to look at her.
They fell asleep shortly after, only to be woken up by Jane a few hours later. -
December 30th, 2019, Montreal.
The group was walking down a street full of houses in downtown Montreal, ready to join Grace’s hometown friends for a day of exploring and a night of clubbing. She was walking between Chase and Drew which made her look even smaller than usual, but she was smiling as she walked backwards to talk with Madelyn easily.
“But you ate six pancakes, Mads! Six! How in the hell were you that hungry? Did you find my stash?” Grace whispered and Madison’s eyes opened wide.
“What kind of stash we talkin’ about here, babe?”
“Marijuana, Madison, of course I’m talking about weed. Y’know it’s legal here?” she sent a wink towards the older actress and a few squeals could be heard from the other side of the street and Grace started to jump up and down.
The Canadian actress looked each side of the street before crossing and ran into her friends’ arms.
“Look at you! You’re all tanned and shit!”
“You’re glowing, my love! Fucking glowing!”
“I missed you so much, GP.” Her best friend, the one she’d known since diapers hugged her last, both of them had their arms wrapped around each other. She looked at the only male in her friend group and she felt her heart start to be heavy.
“Hi Mikey!” she said before trotting towards him and being swallowed in his six-foot five frame. She felt him press a kiss on her head and the three other girls surround them in a group hug. “How are y’all?” she asked with a sigh as she wiped a few tears from her eye, damn she had been crying a lot lately.
Her friend, Kelly, talked and Grace took a moment to look back at her American friends and saw them simply waiting, talking quietly amongst themselves. She chuckled while motioning for them to come forward. Kelly finished her story as her eyes fell on the group that was coming their way.
“Damn why are they all so attractive?” Mathilde muttered as her eyes fell on the three blondes.
“Which one you fucking, G?” Mikael whispered in her ear and she snorted before shoving him away, Rudy appearing at her sides seconds later and Mikey nodded sneakily.
“You guys are actually all so beautiful, what the fuck?” Kelly asked her friend as she fake fanned herself.
“Funny K, really. Ok, guys” she said to her home friends, “that’s Madelyn, there next to her is Chase, he’s old. Then you got Drew, and Maddie and this one’s Rudy.” She smiled as she presented her friends. “and here we’ve got, Mike, Kelly, Mathilde and that’s my soulmate, Jade.” She smiled as she kissed her best friend’s cheek.
“That’s nice for us, damn, G.” Mike muttered, and Grace jumped to smack the back of his head.
“Shut up, y’know what I mean!” she groaned before turning around and wrapping her hands around Rudy’s arm as they all started to walk, and she already started to hear some of her friends flirt with Drew and Madison.
They spent most of the afternoon walking around Montreal, getting hot cocoas and snacks here and there when one of them was hungry. Everybody seemed to be hitting it off and she felt so happy at that exact moment. Grace had just let her head fall on the blonde’s shoulder when she heard Mathilde’s voice come from behind them and Jade stopped the rambling she’d been doing about her studies.
“So, Rudy?” she called out and the blonde turned his head to look behind him.
“Yeah?”
“Where are you from?”
“Alaska” he stated, and Grace felt Jade’s eyes on her as soon as the word left her mouth.
Jade grabbed Grace, letting the group walk ahead of them while they followed a few feet behind them.
“So, when you told me “oh yeah, no I won’t make it for Christmas I’m gonna be going to a friend’s house, his name’s Rudy.” You meant that you went to Alaska?” she slapped her arm with a grin and Grace chuckled.
“Yeah.” Grace smiled.
“Lucky bitch.” Jade said before walking away.
“C’mon, Jadey! Don’t be mad! If I ever go again, I’ll bring you!” she laughed while moving back to her previous spot.

They had stopped at a restaurant Grace had made a reservation at and were seated quite quickly. The two different friend groups mixed up and sat all together and Grace leaned back against her seat with Rudy on her left and Jade on her right.
“Wait! No, what did he say?”
“Told me that while yes he wanted to marry me, he’d propose in a way I wouldn’t expect!” Jade gushed and Grace squealed.
“Y’all are so getting married in the next year, I just—”
“Hi guys, my name’s Mary, can I take your drink order?” she asked, and Grace smiled happily.
“Yeah, I’ll take a Gin & Tonic please.”
“Great!” the others ordered while Grace sipped on her glass of water.
“I forgot you were legal here.” Rudy whispered in her ear, his lips fluttering her ear and a blush overtook her face.
“Yeah? I bet it does something to you.” She said on the same tone as she winked.
The waitress came back with all the drinks and Grace immediately took a sip from her drink. Rudy’s arm settled around the back of her chair, his thumb softly going over her skin and she leaned more and more into his side as the evening went on. All of their friends watched them from time to time, both of them felt at peace and that evening felt right.

Grace stayed by Rudy’s side all day; from the time they left her house late in the morning to when they entered the night club that night. Grace greeted that man at the door saying he was a high school friend, and they went in, they handed their coats to the person working at the door and they all regrouped at the bar. Grace winked Mathilde’s way when she noticed that Drew’s eyes had been trained on her. She wrapped her arms around Madison’s middle and let her head fall on her back as they all decided which drink they were gonna get. Mikey, Mads and Chase all went to dance, and the brunette hurried up and snapped a picture.
To say that they danced all night would be an understatement. Grace hadn’t even picked up the drink she’d bought and left it on the table they reserved. She felt the music thump in her chest while she sang at the top of her lungs with her girlfriends. Seeing them all together made her the happiest she’d been in a while. Mads twirled her as she stumbled back against Mathilde and Jade. Chase and Drew were dancing around and loudly chatting with Mikey while Rudy mainly sat in the booth, took sneaky pictures and watched their drinks. His eyes fell on the brunette’s flowy dress that twirled and whipped through the air at each movement, an easy smile settled on his face as he brought up the camera and pressed down on the shutter. He hadn’t noticed that one of Grace’s friends had sat next to him and had gotten weirdly close to him.
When Grace noticed the way Kelly was leaning towards the blonde and the way she was laughing obnoxiously loud, her fists clenched and she tried to concentrate on how a very drunk Madelyn was using her for support. Shooting a last look towards the booth she noticed Rudy’s bright blue eyes already on her and she smiled quickly. He sent her a distressed look and mouthed a desperate “help me” to which she laughed but still went his way, Mads glued to her side.
“K? You don’t mind watching Madelyn for a little while, do you?” she asked, and her eyes went to the man. “S’just, I promised Rudy a dance earlier, and I think it might be time.” Kelly nodded, though she didn’t look at all pleased with letting the blonde go to check on the other one.
“Thank you,” he said as she gripped his hand and pulled him to his feet.
“Don’t mention it,” she said slyly, leading him toward the middle of the room.
His hand fell comfortably on her hip as she started to sway to the rhythm of the music. As if it belonged where it rested, he maneuvered his other arm around her waist, the palm of his hand resting gently just below her ribs. Following her movements, she giggled as his fingers pinched and poked at her skin, her elbow moving him away before they drew attention to themselves.
“Stop it,” she mumbled breathlessly, unable to hear her own voice.
“M’not doing anything,” he whispered, his lips brushing the soft skin of her shoulder.
Making eye contact with Jade and the Maddies who shot her knowing glances and inappropriate gestures, Grace smiled to herself as she wrapped her arm around the blonde, their hips moving in sync as the music blared. As she faced him, their bodies moving as one, they locked eyes, and his breath fanned across her face softly.
“Gray,” he breathed.
Her heart skipped a beat as she looked at him, his pupils blown and his eyes sparkling, “yeah, Dee?”
“You smell like Gin,” he rested his cheek on top of her head, pulling the two of them even closer.
It was like she had lost control of her body, and before she knew it, her hand was resting on his cheek, her thumb gently tracing his jawline as they continued to move with the music. His hand, now resting lightly on the small of her back, traced little circles on the soft fabric of her dress sending shivers down her spine.
She took in his face; flashes of violet and yellow danced across his skin lighting up his blue eyes as they met her green ones. She stared up at him, a smile tugging at her lips.
“Hi.” She smiled, not even attempting to speak over the music.
Focused on her lips, he spun her around, “Hey.”
Before she knew it, they were moving, his hand firmly behind her knee as her hair brushed the ground when he dipped her.
“Damn,” she giggled as she was returned safely to her feet.
The rest of the night was quite similar, Rudy and Grace always stayed in each other’s proximity, always at arm’s length.

December 31st, 2019,
Jane had requested that all “the youngins”, as she’d called them, help with the dinner that night. But before they were put to the task, Grace had snuck off to her mother’s small greenhouse that was hidden farther away from the house. The air was warmer than the weather outside and it made the Canadian actress notice how she missed the warmer weather of Los Angeles and Charleston already.
“Knock, knock.” she turned around to see Madison standing at the door. “You okay there?”
“Yeah, just needed to get out for a little while.” her hand brushed against a potted tree, one that would probably need to be transplanted soon, she thought.
“Found something that could help a little.” she said, and Grace frowned but chuckled when she saw the metallic containers in Madison’s hands.
“So, you found it huh?” She grabbed them and pulled seats for both of them. “We're splitting?” she asked and the oldest of the two nodded.
With careful fingers and expert movements, she placed the filter at one end of the paper, filled it, rolled it, packed it and tightened the tip of the rolling paper leaving them with a perfectly made joint.
“Ma’am” she presented the joint to Madison who lit it up with a small smile, letting the youngest take the first puff. “Damn that’s the shit.”
“So,”
“So?”
“What’s up? Feels like we haven’t properly talked in ages.” Madison shot a look at the brunette who simply stared at her, knowing what was coming next.
“M’not talking to you about Rudy because there is nothing to say about him.” they passed the roll back and forth.
“My ass, yeah. Y’all were all over each other last night, we could’ve cut the fucking tension with a butcher’s knife, Russell.”
“Meh. Alcohol makes you do crazy things.” she shrugged it off and the topic was dropped, leaving them in a silence that none of them mattered.

Later that night, when everyone was all dressed up and reunited in the large kitchen, Jane raised a glass in the air, the side of her fork hitting it softly to attract people’s attention.
“Guys? If I could say a few words before dinner is served.” Everyone turned towards her and she smiled at how full her kitchen was, Jane loved hosting, a trait her daughter had acquired from her. “I just wanted to thank everybody for joining me for dinner tonight, starting the new and amazing year that’s coming with you all seems like a pretty great way to do it. I wanna welcome Rudy, Madison, Madelyn, Chase and Drew in our family and I wanted to congratulate my daughter on a successful new project, we’re all proud of you honey, all of us.” she said, and Grace shot a look at the picture of her and her father that was on the wall. “I’m proud of the woman you’ve become and how far you’ve come. So, I invite you all to raise your glass to the person that united us all tonight. To Grace!”
“To Grace!” Everyone raised their glasses, and the brunette was squeezed in Chase’s arm which made her chuckle.

Dinner had gone perfectly well; Grace couldn’t wait for the fireworks she knew there would be once the clock struck twelve. She tucked her hair behind her ears before huffing out with frustration, the piping bag in her hand was held tightly and it made her hands shake.
“What’re you doing there?” Rudy asked and Grace let herself sneak a peek at him, noticing that he had lost his jacket somewhere and was only in his dress pants and dress shirt.
“Lost your jacket?”
“I think one of the dogs is wearing it.” her tongue peeked out in concentration. She blew on strands of hair that had fallen over her eyes.
“That’s gonna be a pretty jacket afterwards, all the dog hair and all that. It was a good jacket too, you looked nice in it.” she said absent-mindedly as she smoothed out the newly put icing on the chocolate cake she had baked earlier that morning.
“Why thank you.” he mumbled as he leaned forward
Grace wasn’t sure what Rudy was doing, but when she felt his hand graze her cheek, she closed her eyes and took in the touch. Tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, he grinned.
“I couldn’t see your face with your hair in the way,” he whispered in her ear, he moved behind her and let his chin rest against her shoulder and a slight shiver went up her back.
“Thank you.” she said quietly. “I just--”
“Guys! One minute till 2020! Come on!” Drew said as he entered the kitchen and both Grace and Rudy froze for a quick second as the bubble that had formed around them popped.
“Yeah! He’s right let’s go.” she said, ridding herself of her apron and walking towards the door.
She was handed a glass of champagne once she got into the living room. Her mother wrapped an arm around her while Rudy went to the opposite side of her, joining Drew.
“Twenty seconds.” she mumbled and looked to the right.
“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…”
“HAPPY NEW YEARS!” Everyone screamed and they all hugged each other in the living room as the fireworks lit up the sky.
“Happy new year, guys.” Grace hugged her friends after she’d wished her mom and stepdad a happy new year. “Thank you for coming with me.”
