King K. Rool in DK64 is portrayed as a mix of Blofeld, Dr. Claw, and Darth Vader.
For all of his goofy moments, K. Rool can at times be pretty ruthless.
I remember growing up and seeing that cutscene involving Kasplat running away in fear,
and then being terrified at the thought of having to fight that giant red Klaptrap.
Of course once you reach Hideout Helm, it never really comes out, so it was a relief and a disappointment.
I've only noticed recently that K. Rool in Smash Bros. has a very small tail.
I wonder if Sakurai either didn't realize that K. Rool had a long tail, or if he didn't included it because it didn't look right on him.
Either way, I prefer K. Rool with a long tail.

"Oh my god, this reminds me of this one time I infiltrated King K. Rool's Metal-Ship-Thing with the Kongs. We had to shut down this big laser-cannon-thing before it blasted DK's home."
